  1. It's funny cuz when I see people bank fishing lakes... They cast out as far as then can... And then I see people in boats casting towards the bank lol Ohio's state record came from a pond. As did my PB. When you have a truly secluded , sizable private pond it is a real treat... Love pond fishing and have access to more than a few that are private. I always like the mystery of lake fishing though. Maybe I'll catch a walleye or pike or catfish . You just never know and I like that about lakes. I also like being on the water... It's more pleasurable to me than bank fishing... They both have pros and cons. If I could only pick one I would choose lake fishing but I am very grateful for ponds because of my tight schedule
  2. Lol if you lived in Michigan you probably would have never counted a single fish in your life
  3. I know of a 1 acre pond that has 3 grass carp in it. And has had bass, bluegill and the carp in there for over a decade. See em every year and catch bass every time I fish it.
  4. Yea fish with your grandpa for sure bud. If that's the case the PB can wait.. I'd trade alot to fish with my grandpa again.
  5. No offense but If you go by what people tell you every time... You're going to miss out on alot in life !!! Not to mention the fishing changes daily ! (Actually hourly !) Couldn't tell you how many times I've caught fish and someone else struggled that same day on the same water ... And vise versa.. where I struggled and someone else slayed them.. just how it goes bud. Go get your PB . Rain or shine.
  6. Swim jig with a rage menace for sure !
  7. Nice fish !!! Seriously!!! A Columbia straight bill hat... Interesting.
  8. Yup. I have a set of kobalt scissors (from Lowes) that were cheap and they've been cutting my braid for years and still snippin' !
  9. If this fish are beginning to spawn (or staging I believe is the term) they become difficult to catch ! They have other things on their mind... The best advice I have for you is slow it down, and stay out of sight. Don't walk right up on the bank .. don't bring your noisy buddy... I'd be using spinning gear with a dropshot if I was hurting for a bite. (Which I was last time I went! I fished for 2 hours and fished 5+ baits before I switched to the dropshot and ended up catching 2) Good luck sir.
  10. Senko . tx, wacky , nail weight Rapala original floater .. does it need explaining ? It's responsible for my love of artificial lures. Jig .. so many types of jigs right.. If I could only have one it would probably be a smaller 3/8oz with a rage chunk or zoom chunk depending on conditions If I could do 4 I'd say dropshot as well. Roboworm, kut tail , senko , and here recently (thanks to bass resource) reins bubbling shaker.
  11. Give the rage menace a shot ! Last year when I visited Michigan we were fishing some sand flats with sparse vegetation and the menace was the meal ticket on a swinging jighead.
  12. Nice . Gotta love that.
  13. I'm looking for some different brands that offer a small frog similar to the LH pocket frog. If anyone is familiar with this frog and knows another company that makes one in a similar size, that's what I'm looking for !
  14. I see all kinds of things pond fishing... Gigantic grass carp ... Mushrooms (which I seen you're familiar with too lol)... I once jumped a fawn not 15 feet from me... And I like posting up on the bank over night and catfishing... Some ponds hold some really nice fish !!! Some ponds have that "stunted" population... When I come across those I bust out an ultra light and 4" senko haha !
  15. A blast !!! And easier to fish when you have a limited amount of free time !! A small pack and a couple of rods and you can get your bass thumb !!!
  16. I caught this out of a 3 acre farm pond last year!! And many other hogs out of various ponds !! I like the isolation I have when fishing ponds.. But I like the unknown (of what's on my line) of fishing lakes. Nice fish man !

    Trd Ned Rig

@Last_Cast got me a set of heads and trd for fishmas and I tried em out yesterday at a local pond. The bite was slow and I only managed 2 on a finesse jig before I decided I was going to try the damned "Ned" rig. ( Glad you did too bud , thanks.) Ended up catching 12 in about an hour. All 12" and under but it was actually fun because it felt like every cast I was catching one after I was having such a slow day ! I'll keep this technique in my back pocket on days I'm fearing a skunk. Right there with a kalins grub and 4" senko..
  18. Me either !!! And I have many successful lipless baits.. Their frogs are pretty nice though.
  19. Colors that's have worked in every season for me are earth tones. Greens , browns and blacks. Purple too.
  20. Or a spinning rod !
  21. Many, many hogs have been taken with 4 and 5" senkos(including one I caught that was 24" at the time). I know you want a big one but big ones have been caught on beetle spins and crappie jigs... It's more of a location and timing thing... I'd go 5" senko and if its nice I'd be trying topwater as well.
  22. Those are choice mushrooms , and can fetch a pretty penny per pound. I've seen outrageous asking amounts. My hillbilly family here in Ohio is always hounding me about the morels in Michigan (which is where I'm from ) , apparently they are plentiful there. @scaleface found a nice batch of em and posted in some thread awhile back. I think they are good... Not what some people pay for them but an awesome find for sure. Every time I see them I think about my past grandfather. He loved to hunt em up... Nice bass too ! I'd say it was a success!!
  23. I tried some Cabela's brand braid and it was awful. The color faded and got all over my reel the first time using it. I wouldn't expect much more from the bps version but I can't say for sure. Power pro is the best value I've found. Yes you can go that heavy. Some people run 80lb for frogging and flippin
