  1. I couldn't disagree more that you need "high-end " lures to be successful in bass fishing... How on Earth did our grandfathers catch bass before there was a 26 dollar jerkbait. Stuff is ridiculous to say the least dude. The "middle of the road baits" are more than good enough.. more often than not it's the fisherman not the lure that leads to success . Also timing and location... Far outweigh lure selection... So many hog bass are taken on so many different things... Worms, jigs, spinnerbaits , top waters, jerkbaits and everything in between.... The world is advanced beyond belief. And so is advertising. If I had a nickel for every sap that walks the earth I'd have a fancy boat of my own. My PB ... Was taken on a topwater cheaper than 10 dollars. More like 6 bucks... So tell me why I need a megabass popmax when this particular popper has caught me four fish over 20".. doesn't sound that impressive really but if you consider the amount of time I get to fish , and the water I have access to... It's more than impressive if I do say so myself. All this being said I don't recommend buying 1 dollar Chinese made crankbaits .. often won't run "true" and are not able to be tuned.. junk split rings and hooks don't do so well either.. however many companies offer nice lures for modest prices. Check out bomber , bandit , and rapala for your hardbait needs
  2. @everythingthatswims that's funny... It'd be more funny if it's true. If only he was a cop in Colorado.
  3. I think it depends on what we are talking about lol
  4. Shad rap and bomber model A are two hard baits I wouldn't want to go without.
  5. 4 to 5 acres is a nice sized pond IMO. I have access to a few of those... One that had this same issue.. I just talked to the owner. And explained to him that the fishing would be better (in terms of size ) if we were to remove some... and he humbly agreed.. Some owners just want to catch one every cast and are fine with smaller fish... It's great for kids! Though not the route I would take if it was my pond.
  6. 3 categories. -Dink magnets -Hog mammas -I just want a bite
  7. As someone who has no tackle, you should be careful going on buying binges. You can have a hot day on a lure and go buy a bunch at the store , only to have it never produce again like it did that one day. Timing and location are the most important things in catching bass..not lure style/color. You have a good start. If I was to come fishing with you (this summer ) and could only bring two baits. Itd be worms and jigs... I had my girlfriend catching bass the other day (4 in total) slow cranking a finesse jig and rage chunk parallel to the bank. I was catching them "yo-yoing " a tube in deeper water. So many ways to catch em ! One of the many reasons I love chasing bass.
  8. And here I am.. doing my ultralight fishing on a cheap walmart Shakespeare combo I've had for 10 years.
  9. Try thumpin a jig around those sunken trees. In my experience.. you won't find the big mama next to a bunch of dinks.. but that doesn't mean there aren't nicer fish in the vicinity.
  10. Probably kids. 14-17 years old.. if there's one thing I've learned in life it's this. The more things I have, the more I have to lose. Sucks feelin that way but it's true. The world isn't as friendly as most may like to think. It's actually pretty dark and nasty.. At least you're safe and live another day. And at least he stole your girlfriend's pole and not your girlfriend ! Lol In all seriousness good luck ! And hopefully better fortune is headed your way.
  11. Shaw is a funny dude. I like watching his show even tho it's like most others where he stays pimpin out the gear and the guides. He's fun to watch tho and I'm sure even more fun to fish with
  12. Yea I clip 18ga. Brad nails with some linesman pliers and they fit perfect.
  13. Jackall gantarel Jr.
  14. Many, many places to get a replica mount... I'd shop around , compare prices , look at their work and then make a decision.
  15. And here I am thinking I'm special for my lady getting big O's .
  16. I feel like it's a pike magnet lol
  17. Plenty of ways to rig a fluke. More than I even care to try... I usually throw the fluke belly down and tex-posed with a 3/0 wide gap hook. Easily skin hooked if I'm in taller weeds. I've used a 3/0 worm hook and truly Texas rigged it and this way works too. But usually.im fishing the fluke in 12-6 feet of water and don't usually let it sit much. Just darting around through the water columns. Subtle twitches falling on semi slack line. Braid and a spinning rod lets me cast a weightless fluke farther than I need to, and also helps drive the hook home at those distances.
  18. How do you like the kayak ? I have the same one.. It's nice for the money. Very light. The stock rod holders work well too. I also love the bungee on the side so you can strap your paddle very quickly , and I can also do it with one hand ! Not the most stable but definitely manageable ! Nice fish .
  19. Not saying they don't work Great! I wouldn't know . I think I do pretty decent with other brands, for the amount of time and resources I get to go fishing ! Rapala is one of em ! Bomber is too
  20. Well the second fish I landed with it happened to be this big male channel cat. The drag was slipping and it was a big fight with the MH 6 foot rod. I had to hold the spool to turn it and then take up my slack... I continued to catch bass with it afterwards and had a good night with the reel. 4" senko for those whom are wondering .
  21. It's belly was all white... The owner of the pond told me his brother stocked channels in there.. so I just assumed. It's not a blue or a flathead that's for sure.
  22. Someone who Chases catfish chime in please.
  23. I'm pretty sure it's a channel. They get dark in color. Here is someone else's channel catfish I found as soon as I googled black channel cat. It's not a blue. Look at the anal fin. 85 % sure it's a channel. @Bunnielab it's a Berkley cherrywood 6 foot MH. Perfect for bank fishing . And only 25 bucks. For the money it's above and beyond
  24. Black and gold / blue flake 4" senko.. helluva surprise and an even better fight. Pretty good size for a channel cat. Big ol head
