  1. Thank you, how much should it be tightened, I don’t want to break anything by over tightening it
  2. My Legalis LT arrived in the mail and when I was unscrewing the handle for storage, I noticed this strange part on the screw that holds the handle on. I have used many spinning reels but have never seen this before. It’s not important but I was just very curious of the function. It’s #68 on the schematic I believe.
  3. I cast a side arm and I make kind of a circle to load up the rod and then I raise the rod tip and keep it straight
  4. I have been doing a lot of baitcaster practice and I am past the complete beginner stage I think although I’m no where close to expert or even intermediate. Anyway I can put what I’m casting pretty close to where i want it now (I have been practicing with a fake senko) and I don’t overrun unless I try and whip it out there. My problem is distance, my rig is a pro max and a veritas 2.0 7MF which is really stiff and is hard to load up with lighter things like my weightless yum dinger. When I cast it goes really high, it goes up over half the distance of the cast if that makes sense, ie. if I made a 50 foot cast it might go 25+ ft in the air. I know I’ve gotta be losing distance that way. Because the rod is so stiff I can’t get it to load with light things like top waters and light soft plastics like baby brush hogs so I geuss it’s going to have to be a rod for only heavier lures. Anyway how can I keep the lure down closer to the water and maybe gain some distance. The have been reading other threads but can’t find a lot about the height problem... Thanks
  5. Perhaps, but on the ordering part of their website it says moderate fast under that same rod so that’s why I was a little confused
  6. That’s what I thought... thanks im going to geuss it’s a moderate fast like the rest.
  7. KASTKING has a medium action in only one of the calamus rods. What do they mean by medium action, I know what medium power is but not action. Is medium power stiffer or less stiff than moderate fast. And why is there only one rod with this option. Very confused @KastKingUSA
  8. Would you say it’s even less than moderate fast then? Im not sure if the medium light would cast the spinners and other light lures well but I suppose I might have to just try it. I do not like casting a rod that flops around after throwing my bait out there and I would not enjoy fishing with it. If I could cast my light lures decently with the ML then that’s what I’ll get. My goal of buying this rod is to be able to cast lighter lures (my MF veritas’ lowest rating is 3/16) and also I need a 2 piece rod to fit in the car. I’m not as worried about the challenge factor that’s just a bonus.
  9. It’s been around a month since I started the thread and I still have been stalling to buy it. I’m still stuck on whether to get a light action or medium light action. I would most likely be using a 20 size reel (mostly for line capacity as I fish where snags are everywhere) and 10 lb braid. It’s going to be a travel rod so I could be using it for anything. Even thought it’s a moderate fast action, does the light rod give you enough hook setting backbone? Does it feel whippy? Thanks.
  10. No way!! That’s a biggin! I’m geussing at least 10 pounds
  11. That’s actually really interesting, thank you for taking the time to share
  12. All valid points, thank you all for being respectful despite my unpopular thesis . After some more research around I understand better how bass feeding behavior works. I also think a good reason to have many colors is especially if you do a lot of tournament fishing where new lakes with new forage are discovered. But for me where I fish only a few lakes, it is easy to decide on a few colors that are productive. I have learned good things from this thread, thank you for sharing your opinions. Also the type of bed fishing I was referencing, isnt where the fish are instantly put back, it’s where people put them in live wells and then go a few miles away and dump them back, it will take a lot of time and energy to get back as well as un needed stress. I do catch largemouth on beds, and there is nothing wrong with it as long is the fish are put back as quickly as possible.
  13. I agree with you, but there’s new lures being hyped every year and I wanted to hear everyone’s opinion. By no means would a single lure work, but should I buy all 50 colors in all 5 sizes? No of course not! That’s not to say certain colors aren’t effective for different places, because they are. But if a bass can see an easy meal close by, and it is actively feeding/hungry it *generally* would eat anything it sees. The definition of an opportunistic feeder is “an organism that sustains itself from a variety of different food sources”. That fits the description of a bass quite well. If you miss a frog blow up, you can toss a worm, creature bait, jig, just about anything and get that same fish. The bass is taking advantage of the many different food sources it has available. Bass don’t have brains complex enough for decision making. If it sees something moving it will eat it. I think bass fishermen (myself included) take too much pride in how they can “select” a certain lure when there would be quite a few that would work. This is not always the case so don’t attack me, there are for sure exceptions to this rule. I knew this thread would be controversial but I would like to hear what people have to say...
  14. Why would you be wasting any time if you were fishing. If you go at that time and catch fish, you know it’s a good time. If you don’t it was still a nice time outdoors and now you learned something
  15. I personally don’t believe all the hype about all these different lures. From a scientific standpoint bass are opportunistic feeders, if a bass is hungry it will eat what is available. I do believe sometimes more flash is better or sometimes fish are keying in on a different size. But if a fish isn’t interested in eating you can’t make it eat. And if you are catching bedding fish by reaction strike, they would eat anything that goes on their beds so the lure wouldn’t make a difference... Share your ideas...
  16. I use XL which is more manageable. The XT is thicker and stiffer for more durability at the cost of having more memory and stiffness. Buy the XL
  17. Depends on the bearing, spinning reels’ internal bearings get grease.
  18. If the bearings are not rusty/corroded/full of sand try some wd40 to dissolve the old grease then soak with acetone, blow dry with compressed air and re grease.
  19. I second the brush hogs, although I prefer the baby brush hogs. The full sized ones are giant. Watermelon seed works good in clear water, I caught my PB this weekend on one:)
  20. Called skitter pop I believe
  21. Abu Garcia Vendetta, which is basically last years Veritas 2.0 with a different color... I have a veritas and love it
  22. Wouldn’t the hole make it sink
  23. I had a cheap popper I bought for about 50 cents at Walmart a few years ago, it caught me a ton of fish. Pike and bass loved it. Somehow I managed to lose it but it was only 50 cents so not a huge problem. The problem is that I cannot find any poppers without rattles, when I fish the fish are already actively feeding and the water is completely calm so there’s no need for that. I think they could potentially even scare away fish. are there any brands without rattles it is there away to disable the rattles in current ones(I have some pop-Rs and Booyah Boss pop
  24. I got my PB last night of 17 inches. I caught it on a Texas rigged baby brush hog. That’s not a bad bass at all for Northern Michigan. EDIT:sorry no picture because I didn’t have my phone, I fish to get away from that sort of thing.
  25. I understand the differences in specs, but the RG has more bearings and is cheaper while still being smooth, my problem with that is only 8 pounds of drag for size 2500. I’m not sure if that’s enough. I also am looking at an Legalis LT in 1000 for my light rod but they cost more and are lighter but with less bearings(which doesn’t matter anyway) but the drag is about the same even though it’s 3 sizes smaller. The 1000 Legalis will go without saying for the light rod but should I get a 2500 one also instead of a 2500 RG for my 7’MF bass rod? Sorry if that’s not worded too well
