  1. Oh, that's good to know! When I pulled in my minnow trap full of goldfish-sized bluegill I thought they would look nice in aquarium, but I hadn't done too much reading on them. Lesson learned!
  2. A couple years ago I kept a tank with 6 tiny sunfish and a small largemouth. Unfortunately, most of them jumped out (the lid didn't cover the entire aquarium) and the few that were left became ill and died. After that, I housed a large betta in the same tank, but he jumped out and died as well. I seem to have a problem with suicidal pets.
  3. That is one weird little animal. Closest thing I've seen to it is the salamanders that live in a creek near me.
  4. Last year when the cicadas were hatching the bluegills and bass would annihilate them when they fell into the water. My friend and I saw this and started pulling cicadas right off the trees for bait. We rigged two size-12 hooks about 2 inches apart on the end of our line. One hook went through the soft tail end of the bug, and the other hook went through the hard part where the legs are attached. When we cast them into the water they would dance around on the surface until a fish hit it. We caught a bunch of fish that way.
  5. The most intelligent fish? Far from, based on my experience. There's a large shallow area in one of the lakes I fish that is completely undisturbed by the noisy paddle boarders, and it's filled with big carp. The water is so shallow and the fish are so dumb that you can wade right up to them and pick them up right out of the water. Occasionally they get stuck on spots that are so shallow that they're half out of the water. I don't target them too much but I use an ultralight setup with little pieces of corn or bread. I would use a heaiver rod and line if it were a larger area with lots of brush for the fish to wrap your line in.
  6. When did this joke turn into a deep philosophical discussion? What does Socrates have to do with breaking things over your head?
  7. Is it possible to get second-hand brain damage?
  8. It's extremely frustrating when I'm about to sight cast at a nice-sized bass in skinny water and a kayak comes barreling past at top speed. If this is a marketing ploy, any product to repel kayakers/paddleboarders within 100 yards would be priceless! Maybe I should consider introducing some cottonmouths to my favorite lake...
  9. Albright knot hasn't failed for me
  10. 1. Get better at kayak fishing 2. Do more river fishing than I did last year 3. Become proficient and frogging and jigging
  11. My personal favorite technique for cold water is to drop shot a banjo minnow. It works even better when you tip it with a 20 inch Jelly Worm. As for a rod, a Ronco Pocket Fisherman is my preference. good luck
  12. I don't have a designated crankbait rod as of yet, but I am aware of the significant dichotomy surrounding their material. Some people like fiberglass, some people say glass is too much like a wet noodle, and some like hybrid fiberglass and graphite. What are all your thoughts on fiberglass and how it compares to graphite for cranking rods?
  13. I use Google Earth to find how far I'm going when I'm planning a river kayaking trip
  14. I joined a couple months ago but I haven't done one of these yet, so here goes: I'm 15, and I've been fishing for as long as I can remember but I got into bass fishing about a year and a half ago. I can't drive yet, so I usually fish small local ponds and lakes within bicycling distance. When I get a ride somewhere, I usually bring my yak. My favorite bodies of water include LaDue Reservoir, Punderson Lake, the Rocky River, and Wallace Lake.
  15. My kayak floats like a cork on the water so I have to use much harder hooksets. I don't usually fish jigs from my kayak though so I wouldn't know about that.
  16. Thanks for the advice!
  17. I've heard a lot of good things about culprit worms and I've tried them but I still haven't caught fish on them. I have tried multiple colors and techniques. How do you all use them?
  18. When I'm not using split rings I use a perfection loop.
  19. When I'm not using split rings I use a perfection loop.
  20. That's a bummer, I've had pretty good luck with them
  21. Storm Wildeye Live Sunfish I take off the bottom treble hook and hop it off of the bottom or swim it along weedlines
  22. The color of the bait doesn't matter as long as its green pumpkin
  23. I'll be sure to video it and put it on BR as soon as I'm able to type again
  24. That had to have been terrifying! Well I'll be, a fellow Strongsvillian! I guess we literally have the same problem!
