  1. I've only used spinning rods and fluorocarbon line (finesse fishing mostly), but I recently bought a baitcasting rod and reel and am hoping to change that. I've been working on my cast (in a parking lot) and can cast a maximum of 25 yards with 3/8 oz rubber practice casting weight. I have Dobyns DC 705CB and Daiwa Tatula SV TW 6.3 with Sunline Shooter Defier line. I've been keeping the brakes at 6 and the spool tension is reasonably tight, but if I let my thumb off, the line drops on it's own. Does any have any advice on how to cast farther? I seem to be stuck at 25 yards and it's a little frustrating. Also, since I've never used a baitcasting rod/reel what angle should I be holding the rod at when working top water or crank baits? Last question, since I plan to use the rod mostly for top water and crank baits is it preferable to use mono or copoly? Thank you! Geebo
  2. Hi there.... So for the past few years I have been fishing on a super clear lake that doesn't allow gas powered engines. It's not a very deep lake- it's mostly about 8-10 feet, but there's only one small section that 25 feet deep. The last couple of years I switched up colors and started using junebug, PB&J and black/blue and out fished all of my friends. It seems counter intuitive that dark colors would work so well on a clear lake regardless if it's sunny or overcast. I am hoping to gain some insights on why this is happening and any recommendations on other lures/colors to use. Thank you!
  3. Hi all, I'm new to the drop shot technique and am doing the necessary research to become more familiar in advance of a late August fishing trip. It seems that (almost) everyone uses a depth/fish finder when drop shotting for largemouth, which makes sense to me. I don't have a depth/fish finder and will be fishing on a 200 acre lake in Connecticut with clear to stained water color quality (no gas powered engines are allowed) and about 80% of water is between 5-8 feet deep, but there's a 3 acre section of the lake that's 20 feet deep. Is it worth drop shot fishing without the depth/fish finder? And if so, what do I need to do to be successful? Thanks!
  4. I recently bought a 12' jon boat that came with a 40 lbs thrust trolling motor and battery for $250 (was advertised for $400) on Craig's List. It was in rough shape, but my buddy and I put in some floors, carpeted them and are about to install some seats mounted on the benches. When it's all said and done we'll probably spend $600.
  5. This is great! Anyone have a recommendation for good and reasonably priced seats?
