Started to take apart a Citica for a quick clean, but was interrupted. I put the reel back together, but when I came back to start again the reel handle was hard to turn and the drag star was stuck.
I hadnt even removed the side plate in the reel handle side when I was interrupted.
Any ideas what I did?
weightless senkos (wacky or texas rigged) and shakey head worms are my go to for pressured ponds where nothing seems to work. Also, where are you geographically? Here in the south it's so hot, that I can't get them to bit any moving baits unless it's early in the morning or at night.
I've never fished with soft plastic swimbaits, but I wanted to start. This week I plan to pick up some Keitech Swing Impact Fat 4.8s or Zoom Swimmers. I had trouble finding some basic information about them, which brings me here.
1) What's going to be my best hook options, jigheads or weighted hooks?
2) What size/weight hooks?
3) Any tips for how to work these baits? I figured the retrieve will be similar to that of a spinner bait.
Thanks as always for any help!
Walking a spook early in the morning helped hook me on bass fishing. The big fish jigs have caught me keeps me coming back. Enjoy learning how to use them, that's one of the most fun aspects of fishing.
If your treble hooks are getting tangled together, they're too large. I like to change out the treble hooks on any bait right after I buy it because most manufacturers' hooks aren't as sharp as I like. I like to buy as large of treble hooks as I can get away with without them being able to tangle each other. This is simply tested by putting the bait on its back and trying to manually tangle the hooks. If you can, you need smaller hooks. If you can't, you're set.
I'm on the lookout whenever I'm driving around. My car has a Navigation screen, so whenever I'm out I'll keep my eyes out for ponds and go drive around them if I have time. Then it's just a matter of finding time to go fish em.
A good place to start may also be where the stream feeds into the lake. There should be a lot of oxygen in the water there, which will attract fish, especially in the summer.
I like straight braid. I feel like I really need to drive the hook home when frog fishing, and the lure usually get hit a pretty good ways away from the boat/shore. It may be in my head, but I feel like braid won't stretch as much, especially over a long distance, as mono, allowing for a stronger hookset.
