Does anyone have some recommendations on a super tuning service.
I have tried contacting DVT several times in the last week but no response, is he still in business.
DVT has done exceptional service for me in the past though, perhaps he is a victim of his own success and is too busy, sick or out on vacation.
I be fine with that a most of the time. Still I am always looking for a big boy and a lot of times find them. Still catching those breaks up the monotony.
I just tried out one of these on the South Branch of the Potomac at the head of a pool just outside the fast water. Had a big bass come up an take a shot three times, I hooked him the third try and was rewarded with a 20 inch smallmouth on a BFS set up. The rod was maxed out and I couldn't move well because of the stream bottom rocks. Quite a brute.
Landed a couple more smallmouth at the bottom end of the pool earlier in the 14 and 16 inch range. I love top water lures.
I can make it pop easily and it swims back great.
Seems to work quite well for me, but maybe I was lucky which I will take over skill any day.
bagofdonuts, the smallies in that lake are epicures. In my river, the South Branch of the Potomac they will attack anything that moves and looks moderately yummy.
2" lure is sometimes good for smallmouth in shallow fast water, I nailed an 18" on a pop-r junior this summer in a riffle. And I do it all the time when fly fishing. I guess the right place and a target of opportunity thing.
If i were you I would give it a try at least.
