None of the reality shows are 'real'
My wife and I happened to be in Las Vegas a couple years back, and stopped in at the Pawn Stars shop. They happened to be in process to start filming and asked us to stay for the episode. It was cool to see them getting set up, and by the way, none of the stars actually 'work' there, there are people behind the counter selling items however most of what they have are souvenirs!
Once they started filming, Rick came out, the seller approached (the guy had a brick from Janice Joplin's house or something) and they started into their back and forth. Every other sentence, The producer would cut and tell Rick EXACTLY what to say. So all of his lines are scripted, he basically just shows up and they feed him his lines. When they were done, Rick says to everyone there, "I'm sure this is a huge let down, but now you know the reality of how this is done."
