  1. I went through this last year. I ended up buying the previous year model during their "Spring Fishing Classic". Significant markdown on the units and also had the perks of 3x points and free basic install (it was very basic, I ended up redoing the console install myself). I ended up being able to purchase a 9" and 7" for what the 9" msrp price was. After having them for almost a year I wish I would have gotten two 9" models. The 7" is tough for viewing maps and sonar or any combination at times. Overall pleased with the units but the extra size on the 9" is nice. My price difference was around $100 though. No clue what the deals will be this year but may be a good idea to wait a few weeks and check the sales ad.
  2. Assume you are talking about the fury lineup. I have a 734 and 735. The 734 is one of the more versatile rods I own. I throw chatter baits, spinnerbaits, and light cover popping frogs. I would get the 704 or 734 based on what you're looking to do. I use the 735 for frogging almost exclusively.
  3. I bought the H3 7'1 MH XF for texas rigs. 1/8-3/8 oz weights + plastics. I paired it with a tatula 100. It felt pretty good the two times I've had it out. I like the smaller size reel compared to the previous daiwa models I've handled. Small hands I guess. There are so many good reels out now you just have to find what feels good to you and on that specific rod. I fish with reels from Lew's, Daiwa, Abu. My next reel purchase will be a shimano to try out. I shift new reels around between rods at the end of the year to see what feels best given the gear ratios I have and techniques used. You really cant go wrong in my opinion. I haven't bought a reel that I wasn't happy using. Some are of course better than others. I've never had a H power Kistler but for all my jig rods I've always used a MH+ or H power. I hardly use any jigs under 3/8oz though and fish jigs around cover the majority of the time.
  4. Thanks for the nice feedback everyone. I'll probably jump on the Kistler H3 in light MH. I do like the Zolo I have but feel like this specific interest is a perfect fit on paper for the H3. Still want to try a tatula at some point as they also get nice feedback. Maybe the the jig rod replacement for the ghost will be one in a few months. Never know. Thanks again everyone!
  5. Appreciate the feedback. I've been doing the same but trying to make the nice spinning combo pretty much dedicated to dropshot and wacky rig. No real reason why. I was eyeing the casting Ehrler MMH elite with the AGS but not sure I can justify the extra $50 over the H3 with their current sales. They sure are some pretty looking rods to my eye though.
  6. A-Jay I respect the perspective a ton and completely agree. I did state I was looking for a rod to handle lighter weight Texas-rig applications (1/16 - 3/16oz + trick worm or creature bait) to compliment the existing trig setup I already have. This was the primary objective, gain perspective on rods for that appication. Sorry as this was probably lost in the wall of text I ended up writing :).
  7. This probably feels like a reoccurring post topic but I have basically reached analysis/searching paralysis at this point and just want some opinions from those with more experience or that have similar setups already. During the TW sale I ended up with two new Tatula 100s. Both are the 8.1:1. First Daiwa casting reels other than the Excelers I have ever owned. I pretty much have my mind made up on getting an additional t-rig rod for "lighter" applications (1/16-3/16oz + trick worms or creature/craw) for one of the reels. Any recommendations on casting rod(s) to pair with these new reels? Looking for something in the $150-$300 range probably. I have pretty much narrowed it down to (in this order): Kistler H3 (Light MH or MH?), Does anyone have this setup to comment on balance, etc? Wait for new Powell Max rod in spring ALX Zolo Dream Tatula/Tatula Elite Not sure if it helps or matters but below are my current bass casting setups. Have 4 good spinning setups that I use for finesse techniques and friends/wife fishing. I actually feel like I have too many setups (then the bait monkey convinces me I need more again). Current casting setups: MH/XF Powell Max3D with Lews MB - General texas rig (gets a lot of use) H/F Duckette Ghost with Revo Rocket - Jigs/trig with creature or craw (This is a rod I will also replace soon) XH/F ALX Zolo Brawler with Revo S - Flipping/Pitching heavy cover Fury 735 with pro Qualifier - Frogs Fury 734 with pro Qualifier - General Reaction baits (chatterbaits and spinnerbaits mainly, whopper plopper sometimes) Lews Speed Stick MH/F with with lews speed spool - General reaction (swim jigs, soft body swimbaits) St Croix Triumph X with Lews Speed spool - Buzzbait basically exclusively other than in winter Ill usually use it for lipless baits Pro Max M/MF with Pro Qualifier - Topwater trebble baits, lipless baits Duckette Ghost M/M - Smaller crank baits / square bills BPS Cranking Stick MH/M - Mid-deep diving crank baits
  8. Just an FYI it looks like the TW deal has started. I was adding stuff to my cart and it is already showing the 15% off price.
  9. Just so everyone knows the sale seems to have started. I was adding some stuff to my cart and it's showing the 15% off price.
  10. It's still going on. I ordered last weekend. Just check their website and they still have this on the top of the homepage.
  11. I own the 734c and use it exactly as you plan to. Works very well. 3/8 oz -1/2 oz bladed jigs, spinner baits, and jigs are the main lures I throw on it. It is a little on slower side IMO for jig use but I use braid to combat that and use it quite a bit. I am typically tossing a 3/8 oz jig though instead of the 1/2 oz but either shouldn't be an issue. I own the 734 and the 735. Two of my favorite rods. The 734 can almost do it all. Most versatile rod I own by far. Even use it as a trig or light Carolina rig rod from time to time. Really cant go wrong with the 734. Don't own the 703 but if I was in the market I would buy it to replace my 1/4 oz and lower trig/plastics rod.
  12. The engineer inside me likes the point scale. In reality after using many of the reels on the list I would say it is flawed though. Ignoring the PQ suggestion, I own a MB and have fished with a buddy's tatula. Sales price wise you can get them for almost the same money or even get the tatula cheaper. I would hands down buy the tatula between those two reels. Like you said all the reels on your list are good reels. Just my 0.02 above. You're definitely doing the right thing by waiting for deals though. I wasted some nice coin buying stuff when I wanted it instead of waiting and looking at other sources for sales. Sportman's outfitters has the tatula for $100 and the R for $120 I think still just fyi.
  13. I have 2 excelers, 1 tournament MB, 1 lews LFS, 3 pro qualifiers, 1 pro max, and 1 duckette reel that I use regularly. Although they are decent reels I would not pay more than $50-$60 for an exceler and the TW sale only has the 4.xx gear ratios in right hand (not sure which you are). The tournament MB is my favorite reel to fish with but it comes in at the top of the budget and I have had some small issues with it. If you have a bass pro close by I would grab 2 pro qualifiers while they are on sale for 49.99 each. One in each gear ratio that way you can have setups (rods & reels) for specific techniques. I understand you only want to carry 1 setup but carrying 2 is always better and doesn't add much bulk. Just wait until the day the fish are biting and you bird's nest a reel or break a rod tip. If no bass pro is close then find a deal on excelers for $50 or buy the tatula on ebay. The tatula will be my next reel after all the great things I've heard on this forum.
