  1. Thanks fellas, much appreciated.
  2. I tried searching hook removal but couldn't find a definite guide on the process. I caught the second bass of my life today (just started fishing a few weeks ago). I've caught maybe 5 fish total since I've started and removing the hooks on those fish was relatively easy. This bass had my hook pretty deep in his throat, almost swallowed it but not quite. After trying with the pliers I bought for my tackle box I couldn't get the hook out so I left about 18" of line and released him. I don't know if I was correctly attempting to remove the hook so I was looking for a guide or post explaining the process to make sure I'm doing it properly without harming the fish in any way.
  3. Quick question for you all: after a day of fishing do you reel all your line back onto the spool and then attach the end to the line holder on the reel or do you leave a hook on the end of your line and leave it through the guides and use the "hook holder"? thanks in advance from a rookie
  4. Thanks! Extremely helpful links. I see you're from Norman, OK, I was fishing at Sutton Trail today, caught my first bass there!
  5. This question has a simple answer I have no doubt but being a newbie I haven't been able to find it. Is there a post about properly removing the hook so that the fish can be unharmed when releasing back into the water? Also, what about holding fish? The main fish in my area are bass, crappie, bluegill and catfish. Is there any guidelines on how to hold particular fish? I must immediate I was extremely skeptical of sticking my thumb in the mouth of my first bass I caught today like I see you veterans do so I held it from underneath while I pulled the hook out and then released him.
  6. Thanks Turtle135!
  7. I'm new to fishing, I've only gone twice but I've been watching a bunch of bass resource videos the past week or so. I want to try this spinnerbait I bought the other day but I'm not exactly sure where to tie my line?
  8. Thanks! I'll take some sweet corn tomorrow and try to haul one of them in.
  9. Sorry, realized the picture was to big to post. Here's a link: Here's a second, less zoomed in photo:
  10. Hey all, I'm new to fishing, today was my second time, first time with my own rod & reel. I was fishing at a big pond by my house and caught a bass. While I was out there were a few of these fish (pictured) that were lurking around the top of the water, they had a fin sticking up from the middle of their back and they were pretty long. I know the picture isn't great but I was wondering if anyone could identify this fish? I was trying different lures but they weren't interested in what I had to offer!
