  1. Got my battery. A bit frustrated that online it said the battery was 845 MCA but in the store it was 800. It's still plenty of amps, but would be nice to have accurate information online.
  2. All I know is that if they wanted the less lean products they could have gotten them. Not all farmers went in the lean direction. I would certainly have paid a couple dollars more for them. Four out of my best five fish came from a jig and pig.
  3. That was the company line to make people believe it was that they didn't want to put out an inferior product. In reality they didn't want to pay for the higher quality pork.
  4. Yeah I know they stopped making them due to pork prices. I'm just wondering why nobody else has stepped in to make them. I've tried to make some myself but they're not quite the same.
  5. Has anyone found an alternative to Uncle Josh's pork trailers? eBay is about dried up by now and I haven't seen any stores with lingering stock in over a year. Plastic just doesn't do it for me. Maybe it's a confidence thing as I always had success with pork.
  6. I think the Everstarts get a bad rap because they're from Walmart. Outside of a few Walmart haters and maybe a couple of people who got one with a factory defect (as can happen with any battery), everyone I've talked with has said they get more for their buck with the Everstarts than anything other than the very high end, $600 ones.
  7. Thanks for your input; these are not Everstarts, but those are what I am looking at for replacement. I used them on my last boat and they were great. Lasted two years and I got new ones. No trying to bleed every electron out of a $200 battery for four years. I got stuck on a lake one time doing that. That said, I've read numerous places that a true deep cycle battery shouldn't be used for starting, though I know many people who use them with no problem.
  8. Charger is two years old. 30 amp Noku 3-bank. Not the best, but not the worst. I looked again and they were $199 each. Two year warranty which is expired.
  9. With the luck I've had in the battery department I'm going on the cheap end of things. Probably Everstarts. I paid $250 a piece for the last set only for circumstances to kill them. I don't have $750 or even $600 to spend on three new ones that might last years, but I have a couple hundred that I can spend on three Everstarts that should last at least one year. What I'm wondering is if I should use the dual-purpose battery as my starter since I also run my electronics off of it or if I can use a dedicated starting battery. The outlet that my battery maintainer was running off of stopped working sometime over the winter and unfortunately I was neglectful in monitoring the situation once I covered the boat. I said in the original post that they were crap and it was on the charger all winter. In reality I just didn't want to sound stupid and say I neglected my batteries.
  10. I'm about to head out to the store for a battery so any help anyone could give me would be great.
  11. Ok, so I have three bad batteries. Again. Got new batteries in 2017 but I think they were crap. Had them on the charger over most of the winter but they won't charge at all. The engine just clicks and doesn't try to turn over. The trolling motor doesn't do anything. The electronics work and they're powered from the starter. I put the starter on a trickle charger thinking the batteries may be too low for my onboard charger but that isn't helping. I've been using dual purpose batteries all this time and I'm wondering if, since I need new ones anyway, I should get a starter and two deep cycles. Will I kill the starter if I use my fish finder and livewell all day?
  12. Makes sense. I'll probably go brown. Somehow it seems a bit more natural.
  13. So for leader, do you guys use Fluorocarbon Leader or just regular Fluorocarbon? Is there a difference? On those few occasions when I've used leader I used the one labeled leader, despite having a spool of fluorocarbon line sitting nearby. My eyes aren't what they used to be, so it's mono backing with yellow braid for me now. When you color your line a day before what color are you using under different conditions? Hmm...just thought of something. If I'm using yellow braid and use a red sharpie it might turn the line pink!!! Maybe I'll just stick with black.
  14. Maybe I'll try the Alberto. I had always used the double uni knot, which is a pain and not something I want to do on a boat that might be rocking or trolling. There seems to be less moving parts with the Alberto. Yet let's assume I'm out there and I don't have my leader material and need to sharpie the braid. What color is good? Edit: As for the leader, what do you think. A yard or so?
  15. I think I don't like using leaders because they're not the easiest knots in the world to tie. I'm sure if I used them more often I could tie them pretty quickly, but I just haven't had the patience to sit and tie them.
  16. I'm thinking of changing things up this year and going with the more visible yellow braid for my worm and jig fishing. Typically I use moss green, but it can be hard to see, especially in the early morning. Note that I do not use any type of leader when fishing but rather just tie the braid to the bait. Reading some posts on other sites I'm finding that people will use a sharpie on the first couple of yards. That's where the controversy comes into play. Red is supposed to be the first color to disappear underwater but some people say it turns black instead of not being visible. Green is good if the water is cloudy. What are some recommendations?
  17. I hadn't thought of this. I won the powerball, for goodness sake! (I didn't, but we're in pretend-land here). I can have more than one place.
  18. Moderate to warm to hot all year round. No winter.
  19. Nope - too cold in the winter for Table Rock.
  20. A location would be nice. Never heard of it.
  21. Let's just say I won the powerball. I didn't, but let's dream for a moment. I want to live on a lake/river. I want to have three seasons. I want to catch big bass. I want to be in relatively close proximity to a mid-sized city for shopping and stuff. Maybe no more than 30 minutes or so. I want a nightlife that is amenable to meeting women who have all of their teeth. Not nightclubs, but not all dive bars. Any thoughts?
  22. That might be kind of tough, as there's really only one hand placement with a casting rod.
  23. Maybe. When I have the finger contracted and then open it it sometimes snaps out. Not painful, but concerning. But yes - only after fishing. I can see what looks like a vain in the finger right at the knuckle where it hurts. I'm thinking that's a nerve. There were two that I could see the other day. Now there's one.
  24. It's when I come to the end of the cast. The last thing I do is put tension on my pinky to control the rod at the finish. I'll try stopping that portion of casting as it's not necessary. Cast is made; just be done with it. No need to pull the rod with my pinky.
  25. Tendonitis sounds about right. I've tried to cast with my pinky out, but that doesn't look too manly, plus I forget to do it most of the time. I've thought of taping those fingers up to spread the power out between those two fingers.
