  1. I am a ned rig addict. I don't know if I have ever, ever worn out a zman trd. just keep'm in their own pouch and you are good to go.
  2. I don't have one, but EVERYONE raves about the Shimano SLX. I have a Diawa tatula ct that is fantastic. I couldn't ask for better...it is darned hard to backlash which is an important feature for a beginner.
  3. Alberto knot for leader. Palomar Knot for line to lure most of the time with braid, mono or flouro. Trilene knot for larger lures.
  4. I have an ugly stik elite for beating around fishing. 6 foot. medium. tough as nails and a better backbone and sensitivity than the gx2. $50. My sons girlfriend caught nearly a 7 pound largemouth on her first cast fishing ever....I have caught several 4-5 pounders on it. Nice rod.
  5. I used spinning reels for topwater continually and never had that problem. Looks like you might be reeling in the line with a bunch of slack at the spool coupled with 15 yards too much line....you got a double whammy going on there. I read in another post that you didn't have much of a problem the last time you went out. Keep fishing and having fun! I LOVE using super small frogs and poppers on a spinning rod.
  6. I have thrown a ned rig behind other baits and caught fish routinely. Honestly, I cannot remember ever having thrown a bait behind a ned rig and caught a bass. That is how the ned rig became my confidence bait.
  7. A few years back, I ordered a pack of generic dark sleeper baits from a company called Truscend because I couldn't find any dark sleepers in stock. They are pretty darned good. I have caught a ton of bass on them and unlike the dark sleepers, the eyes are still on them.
  8. I bought a KK off amazon 2 years ago. After 2 trips, I sent it back for a refund. I have always (35 years) fished with reels on the cheaper side...Even though it was inexpensive, it was overpriced (if that makes sense).
  9. For what its worth and it isn't worth much. I was fishing a "swimming pool" clear large pond from the bank. I could see 20 feet out and 10 feet down into the water...it's ridiculously clear. I could see the bass and could not get them to bite on 2 or 3 trips to the pond (cannot remember). I switched from straight braid to braid/floro leader for the heck of it and immediately started catching fish. Now was it the switch, the moon, the weather, the gasoline smell on my hands, were the fish just hungry that day? who knows...but I have used a leader on everything except topwater from that day forward. Also, I suck at knots but for 2-3 years I have never lost of a fish due to the connecting knot.
  10. Jitterbugs were mentioned by several people. I bought a couple jitterbugs last week to bring back some memories of fishing with my dad. I have never been so disappointed. The hooks are worse than garbage. They are screwed into the body of the lure (no o-rings), and the metal lip is thin as a coke can....probably cost .25 cents to make and sold it for $7. I wish a good company would buy the brand and put out a quality product. My old man used to catch a ton of bass on inline spinners...Rooster tails in particular. He would also catch a ton of them on Mister Twister Curley tail grubs with the spinner. I never see someone grab a mister twister or an inline spinner when bass fishing. I may give both a try today after work.
  11. Hello I am visiting Melbourne Florida this week. Is there any places I could bass fish with a few teenage boys from the bank? Thanks so much in advance.
  12. The original scum frog is the most productive frog for me and the hookup ratio is phenomenal. They look like crap, but fish do not seem to care. I do not bend the hooks or anything...fish them straight from the package.
  13. Just ordered one...I will let ya know
  14. I love his bladed jigs. I like them better than the Z-Mans. the blade starts working almost immediately. Good hook. Wire tied skirt. Good colors. Less than $5.
  15. I started tracking the baits I catch fish on in February. as of right now, I have caught more bass on the ol' ned rig than all other baits combined. routinely, I will say "today is a jig day".....or "today I am going to really focus on using XYZ bait....when fishing is slow, I pull out the Ned rig and usually start catching. The Berkley Shroom Head and Z-man ned rigs are deadly.
  16. Surpassed...Abu Garcia C3 to throw large swimbaits. I figure I will be fishing with that thing when I die.
  17. Grab and ugly stick GX2 and a pfleuger Trion. done and done.
  18. trilene Xl. simple, soft, inexpensive, readily available, tried and true.
  19. Daiwa Tatula CT. Check your local dicks sporting goods. I picked one up 4-5 months ago for $80 and it is awesome.
  20. I'm a plain ol' bank fisherman. I have caught bass on weighted whacky's in 2-3 feet of water. When do I use them vs. non-weighted? Honestly, it's based on what my gut says which is probably not the best way to decide.
  21. I have been back 3-4 times...no luck.
  22. Trilene XL and original Stren are difficult to beat and easy to find.
  23. I like your Fogy's even better than the jackhammer...
  24. Thanks for the replies. She didn't see it as a big thing because she has no reference....My son and I explained that people go their entire life and never catch a 6+ pound bass but she didn't seem to get it.
  25. I really like the Christie Critter Yum version. $2.99 for an 8 pack. For some reason, probably not accurate, but I seem to have better luck with Yum's version than the brush hog.
