I have fished Mille Lacs the last 2 years and the first week in June seems to have been peak week for bed fishing. However, this winter has been much colder and I am nervous this week may not be peak this year. Historically, does anyone know when the best week is for bed fishing?
Thanks Rascal, that's some good info. After looking at the weather we are going to pass on this weekend. If I'm going to grind out a day I might as well be duck hunting haha.
This year they tagged a ton of fish. We caught 8 in a week back in June.
Managed to catch 40 yesterday at a east metro lake. The 5 biggest going for just a bit over 14 lbs. Texas rigged Chigger craw was the best bite.
The last 2 weekends we have crushed them. Flipping and punching last weekend and caught 51. This past weekend we mainly finessed on a different lake and caught well over 100. Nothing big, lots of 13 and 14 inchers but it was a blast!
I second Jim DaRosa. Great guy and an awesome guide. Unless you get lucky and stumble onto a few good boulders you can chew up A LOT of time graphing before you find good fish.
Well fished Chisago on Saturday and it was slow for me. Fished for 5 hours and only had 6 bass and a pike. Caught 2 on a frog and missed several others. 3 on a rage craw and 1 on a drop shot. Most of my bites minus the frog came in about 8 ft of water.
Thanks Rascal. I will let you know how it goes. I hit Chisago about 3 weeks ago and caught about 20 on a red eye shad burning it above the weeds. Biggest bass i had all day was about 2.5 lbs, did manage a 5 lb walleye and 4 lb pike.
I've been fishing smallies so much this year which has been a blast but I am really dying to catch some good largemouths in the 4+ range.
I was fishing all weekend up there and minus one evening where I was able to catch 8 fish in 5 feet of water, all other fish I caught came off big boulders in 10-12 ft of water. With the wind and waves it was a challenge to stay on top of the boulders. Biggest fish was 3 lbs so I can only assume the really big fish are in 15 to 18 ft.
