  1. Sunscreen hater here. Just don't like the way it makes my skin feel. I've got one of the hooded AFTCO sun shirts and a couple of the Magellan sun shirts. Started wearing those and a buff a couple of years ago. I've been looking into gloves but haven't pulled the trigger on any yet. Usually wear a ball cap but may transition to a wide brimmed hat. I just got a clamp on umbrella from Academy that I'm going to try attaching to my kayak seat.
  2. Just left our local Academy. Lot of empty hooks in the fishing department, especially the plastics. Fortunately I have enough plastics to last a long time. I was looking at wacky hooks and they didn't have much aside from the weedless VMC hooks that i've found that I don't really like. Also didn't have any o rings from what I could tell. I did get a clamp on umbrella for my kayak seat for $6.
  3. I went fishing in a new pond yesterday and was getting bit about every cast with a wacky rigged MaxScent General. I like the weight and looks of them. Scent is a bonus. Durability could be bit better but still probably better than a senko.
  4. Same here. I try throwing a lipless or square bill sometimes but always end up switching to a t-rig or something else weedless. One exceptions is the Whopper Plopper because it floats and I just try to avoid throwing it in grass where it will snag.
  5. I think that's BPS in general. A pack of Senkos was like $9 last time I was there. Your money will go a lot further other places.
  6. Reminds me of when they built a new Galyan's store in Greenwood and it was closed shortly after it was taken over by Dick's. A lot of "sporting good" stores are now more appealing to soccer mom's than hunters/fisherman.
  7. Used a BPS gift card towards an AFTCO hooded sun shirt. Added a Bass Mafia Money Bag to get free shipping. I figure I will use it to store plastics under the seat on my kayak to keep them handy.
  8. Magellan zip off pants are great. Lightweight and water resistant. Also don't break the bank.
  9. We got an Academy Sports in town a couple of years ago. Best big box store by far to get tackle around here. Gander Mountain closed and Dick's selection is pretty pathetic. I also like their Magellan line of gear.
  10. Not paying a premium just because it's a certain color and has their logo on it. I enjoyed watching some of their videos individually when they actually showed fishing and fishing techniques, more so than vlogging. Rob was one of the first YouTube fishing channels that I remember watching. Now I do about anything to avoid their clickbait thumbnails and videos. I don't plan on buying their overpriced Chinese baits, so I'm not watching videos where they are pushing their product to give them views. If it gets kids into fishing, so be it. But I've moved onto other channels that I feel like I actually learn something from.
  11. I can. Although there will be a bit of a delay due to the wrong kayak getting shipped to the shop ha.
  12. I think every time I've tried the Ned rig I have managed to snag it on something and lose it or bend out the hook. I've had better luck with a shaky head. I'll keep trying though.
  13. Don't have a picture, but I've got an Old Town Topwater 106 on order. It has their Double U Hull design. It has a 440lb weight capacity. Seems like a nice combination of stability and size. It's 73 lbs. So it shouldn't be too unmanageable. I considered the RS 117 but the closest dealer is around two hours away. I also read about the tracking issues with Bonafide. A local shop is an Old Town dealer. Made my decision easier not having to drive a few hours to a dealer or deal with shipping issues.
  14. Don't have personal experience with it, but the one big con for me is the weight. The 105 is close to 90lbs. I've also read that it does not paddle well due to its size. I'm personally about to pull the trigger on an Old Town Topwater 106. It retails for $899. I would looks at it and the Bonafide RS 117. The Nucanoe Flint also looks nice for a little more money.
  15. Academy is as well. They have the Pelican Catch 100 for $699 plus a $100 gift card. If I can get them to match Rural King's price of $599. That would sweeten the deal.
  16. Went to Academy and Dick's to check out kayaks. Ended up with a Magellan branded kayak PFD for $40 and two Whopper Ploppers 110s for $9.99 each plus 10% first responder discount. Still on the hunt for a kayak. Think I'm just going to save for a NuCanoe. Buy once cry once.
  17. People seem to gloss over that fact when they recommend certain brands *cough* Vibe *cough*. Then complain about quality issues. I was interested in a Sea Ghost 110 until this years model came out with a $100 price increase and don't come with a paddle now. I'm sure they're still great kayaks, but for $900 there are great American made options in a similar price range.
  18. Yikes. I'd be embarrassed and then horrified watching my boat get closer and closer to land. In the end it's just stuff and he's alive. Hopefully he learned something from that experience.
  19. I like my Daiwa Tatula CTs. Can be found for around $100 on eBay.
  20. I've been eyeing that same kayak. I was looking at the Vibe Sea Ghost last year but the new models are more expensive and don't come with a paddle anymore. Not to mention the quality seems questionable compared to the Bonafide RS or Nucanoe Flint that aren't much more expensive now and American made. But so far I haven't had luck convincing my wife to let me spend that much on one.
  21. This just happened locally Thursday night. 33 y/o man and his 4 y/o daughter drowned while kayaking. Popular fishing spot. https://www.tristatehomepage.com/news/local-news/first-responders-searching-for-two-kayakers-at-bluegrass-fish-wildlife/1901160954
  22. I'll stick with Yum Dingers. Half the price of Senkos, more durable, and work well for my applications.
  23. The Siebert Cosmic spinnerbaits are great quality and the price is good. Another quality brand is Pepper Custom baits.
  24. Awesome. Yeah the 10E seemed like it would be a bear to launch by myself. Sounds like the 8 foot Sundolphin would be enough for me and potentially my wife or buddy.
  25. Thoughts on the Bass Raider vs Sundolphin Sportsman? Academy has the Bass Raider and I saw the Sportsman at Walmart today. The Sportsman was 8 foot and the Bass Raider is 10 foot (the ones in stock anyway). I'm looking at possibly getting one of these instead of a kayak. The price of fishing kayaks is kind of insane IMO when you can get one of these and a trolling motor for around the same price. I have a short bed Tacoma so I was leaning more towards the 8 foot version of either depending on what's available locally. I would be using it in ponds and old stripper pit lakes.
