  1. $4000 is the low end for a Zorn mold. Allen
  2. Make sure snapping turtles are not destroying the pond as they will eat anything and everything they can find. Allen
  3. Post a pic of Dave's skirt and I guarantee someone on here can ng match it. Dave is buying his skirt material from the same places as the luremaking re sellers so I am sure we as a group can identify the skirt colors. Allen
  4. I found that they are light for their size and do not hold up very well to rocks on a bad cast. Shattered two of them hitting rocks trying to fish a shallow rocky section of the Potomac River. Allen
  5. River is 2.8 feet and murky at 58 degrees so tubes wouldn't be my first choice. Allen
  6. http://www.jannsnetcraft.com/plug-parts/310311.aspx If you look at a unpainted bait many of them use these figure 8 links. Figure 8 links, screw eyes, and through wire are the three techniques that I am aware of for making crankbaits. Allen
  7. There is no way you can compete with Zoom for least cost. I am not trying to discourage you but just stating facts as I learned them through research. Zoom uses an industrial machine that can shoot like 3k baits an hour that is how they keep costs down. There are companies that can do this for you but you must order like 5k of the same bait in the same color. Additionally if you want a custom mold for one of these machines they are $4-6k. Custom lead molds are cheaper and will cost about $300- 400 per size for each size in spincast. Like I said earlier you need to find a niche market and build a loyal customer base. The attached swimjig head I had custom made and the master cost me $168 and if I want them to make a production mold it will be another $160. I plan on starting a lure business when I have enough free time and have set aside about $5000 to start just for reference. Allen
  8. We are manly fishermen so we don't use "pink" lures we use "bubblegum" there is a difference. Allen
  9. This is the one I have been using for a couple years and I just leave it in the boat glove box for storage. Allen
  10. Jigs have only work in 35 to 85 degree water for me so they have their limitations. Allen
  11. I agree with all the points here and besides BassTracker look into Xpress. Allen
  12. This is what I found out as well after experimenting with them for about 2 months. No difference in catch rate and the red coating would flake off after a few fish. The other thing I found was that the red hooks were weaker and broke more often than BLN ones. Allen
  13. They are trying to compete against other anglers and promote their sponsors is why you don't hear about senkos. Watch what they are using and not what they say they are using to get the truth. Kevin Short did this in one tournament where he said his bait was a Berkley Power Hawg but was clearly using a Zoom Brush Hog. Allen
  14. Before you or anyone else asks do not try and use a microwave oven. Allen
  15. Lee Pots are cheap enough to not mess will poisoning your family by using something you cook on. Allen
  16. Looks like the business to be in. Allen
  17. If you want a job dealing with fishing lures go to work for BPS in the fishing department. I am going to echo a lot of what has already been said concerning making money in fishing lures. One of my graduate school projects I had to do a business plan for a fishing tackle company. When you run the numbers the only two ways I found to make money was volume which means outsourcing or find a niche. Niche is how 6th Sense started as he was repainting baits and selling on ebay ahead of everyone else. Now everyone and their brother is painting KO 1.5 crankbaits to sell on Facebook or ebay. The same goes for soft plastics as everyone has the same molds so they sell the same baits leading to market saturation. Unique custom designs are what will set you apart but custom molds cost money. Allen
  18. They are using the Mustad Steelhead hook which is way too thick for me. Allen
  19. I remember having some worms in the late 80's in the color you described. The color was firecracker and there was only about 1/3 of the flake as in those Culprit Fire and Ice worms that were posted. Allen
  20. If you are fishing Trap Pond I highly suggest a Manns Baby 1- in Firetiger and Bone. Allen
  21. Try something else besides a senko if the water is muddy would be my recommendation. Allen
  22. KVD Strike King baits in Gizzard Shad and Chart. Black back would be a good start. Allen
  23. Here is the hard baits I had in my boat last spring minus the topwater box that didn't make it in the picture. Yes I carry too much tackle but I am paranoid about being on the water and needing something that I have at home. Allen
  24. Check JannsNetcraft, Barlows Tackle, and Lurepartsonline as well for pre-made skirts. They all sell skirts from the same manufacturer but they all carry different colors. Allen
  25. Back in January I had over 300 packs I was trying to sell. I need to get rid of some stuff just so I am not tripping over it in my basement. Allen
