  1. Which HLC spool fits the reel? I've seen a few variations of it searching around. https://japantackle.com/tuning-parts/spools-casting-reels/daiwa/tu001338.html
  2. Resurrecting an old thread as you seem very knowledgeable on the reel. I recently bought an IP68 which i paired with a 7'6" MB Valdivia. I plan on using this rod mostly for bombing 1oz topwater baits along with frogs. Problem I am having is casting distance being knocked down with side brakes turned all the way off. I've read swapping the spool for a HLC may increase distance requiring more braking, but it sounds like you have an easier method by changing the spring if Im understanding you correctly? Can you elaborate on this more and possibly provide a part number? Edit: Is this the compatible spring for the IP68? https://japantackle.com/tuning-parts/spools-casting-reels/tu001003.html
  3. Posted under the rod, reel, and line forum and was soon later recommended to post something here and look for a custom design. Looking for something with similar specs to the following; SPECIFICATIONS: Pieces: 1 | Length: 7' 7" | Line(lb): 40 - 65 Braid | Lure(oz): 2 - 6 | Power: Heavy | Action: Fast | Handle: Split- grip Heres a quote of my post which may help any rod builders think up a design. "Hey all - been researching this for a couple days now and my search just keeps leading me in circles, so I figured I would ask. Long time fisherman, new to the swimbaits idea. Looking for something that will throw smaller topwater swimbaits such as a 6" 2.3oz bull wake and things of that nature, never anything under 1.5oz, I already have a nice set up for that. I'm not really keen on having a large, heavy setup primarily angling from the bank and occasionally out on a kayak, but do realize its somewhat inevitable when talking big lures. I started looking at some of the 7'11 H set ups, but the majority seem to have a mod/fast tip and very long handles, whereas I think this combo (being topwater) would be better suited fast or x-fast and perhaps even a bit shorter in overall length to make transport and casting in tight locations a bit easier. Curious to hear your opinions. Would prefer something with a split grip and a cork handle, but not a deal breaker. Will be initially pairing this with one of my old, traditional size reels, either a Diawa Viento or Shimano Curado, but not completely opposed to upgrading to something larger if necessary."
  4. Thank you very much. Advice like this is exactly why I posted!
  5. That's a really good idea. Are you able to recommend any?
  6. Appreciate the input. These all have moderate tips and really long handles. I'm looking for something much like the G. loomis IMX-PRO 915C UBR, but I'm not fully committed to dropping that type of cash on a technique I've yet to sample. SPECIFICATIONS: Pieces: 1 | Length: 7' 7" | Line(lb): 40 - 65 Braid | Lure(oz): 2 - 6 | Power: Heavy | Action: Fast | Handle: F |

A rod under $200 is preferred for this combo. Thank you in advance!
  8. I ordered Certate 2510PE-, but they sent me Certate 2510RPE-H. Going through the process of exchanging a reel to Japan. Fun times!!! hahaha That's awesome! Lots of people were surprised by the Jit, but I'm not sure why. That is the most proven lure in my tackle box.
  9. Ended up buying a Certate. Thank you everyone for the advice
  10. No way! Not many people even know where RI is haha...I caught it on a Jitterbug. I think it was as much the lure as it was the presentation, timing, and location. My fishing partner caught a 9lb and 6lb before hand. Having to listen to him the entire time while striking out probably provided some needed motivation as well haha.
  11. Appreciate the advise! This is what I'm spinning on now http://www.tackletour.com/reviewquantumenergypti.html. Asides from a few issues when I first bought it with the anti reverse, its been pretty durable. Its taken in an 11+lb, 9+, and a 6lb over the years. Id like a slight upgrade from that. I'll certainly look into your recommendations. I think my well pump is failing, so JDM might have to be part of my next setup *sigh*.
  12. I do. I run out there with two rods strung up. One being my spinning combo the other my bait-caster. I do most my fishing onshore which sometimes limits the range of the bait-caster. I also fish in the dark, so just picking the other up and casting saves a lot of time and frustration. I plan on making this my 3rd carry along set up. St Croix sent me this rod for the bubble when the story broke. If I had my druthers, I probably would have asked for a casting rod, but I am very grateful for the gift
  13. Is there that big of a difference between the avid and legend elite ? In my hand, I couldn't notice a significant difference, certainly not a $170 difference. Mind me asking where you typically purchase your JDM reels? Japantackle.com seems pretty good.
  14. I'm definitely interested in the Centrate, but do have some concerns over the warranty and finding someone to service the reel being its "mag seal" construction. Do you have any experience with maintenance or utilizing the manufacturer warranty ?
  15. The US support does mean something so does matching it up with the rod. I would just like to get something in the next tier so I really notice a step up from my Quantum, but it appears that state side the next bracket jumps way up. Seems like the JDM reels have more options and a few additional tiers before the elite reels. I do think I am going to look into the Patriarch XT again as well
  16. I just went and checked out the fk at a local tackle shop. I didn't have my rod on me, but the reel felt very nice. I'm between the fk and the diawa jdm at the moment. Keep the opinions coming !
  17. Thanks for the input...Do you have any experience with this reel or one like it? Where did you find that information about the reel being made for braid? Its
  18. I agree. I don't think I need a large reel. My quantum is a 3000 and I feel I would be better off with something smaller. I'm thinking a shallow spool will work great with braid, but I don't have any experience with it. Do you think that faster 6.x gearing will be a tad fast for top water? I typically retrieve these lures at slow speeds off long casts.
  19. Do you have a recommendation based upon my fishing habits? Its a bit overwhelming looking through all the sizes and features. http://japantackle.com/daiwa-16certate.html
  20. I like where your head is at! Very cool looking to say the least. Now to decipher the marketing terminology and read some reviews. Thanks for the recommendation! Everyone else, keep em coming
  21. That's the plan, problem is the shops are all 2 hours away :/
  22. Interesting...I was looking at this reel early on in my research, but a few poor reviews began steering me away from it as other negative reviews are starting to steer me from the CI4+. Seems that most prefer a rigid reel rather than these light weight models. Question is, do I really need a rigid reel on the bodies of water I fish, or will I be better off with something lightweight and easier to handle? Its easy to find reviews, but difficult to determine which fishing application the review is intended for. Thoughts?
  23. A bit off topic, but what type of knot do you tie to your backing? I tried backing a few times with a double uni-knot clipping the tag neatly. It almost cost me my record fish as I was getting low on braid and the knot was poking through a few layers rubbing on my line as it cast out. I unloaded my spool a few times and even placed the joining knot up top, but it was making its way to the surface of the spool all night long. Frustrating.
