Most of my rods were bought when they were cheaper than today's cost. I have several AllStar IM6 rods that were top of the line when I got them and still sold for less than a C-note. Likewise my Falcon LowRiders and my David Fritts Crankin' Stiks by Browning. The only reels I have that retailed over $100 new are two early model Castaics, and even then I got them at cost. I still use a couple of the Quantum Iron reels, along with two Browning Midas 6. Never had a problem with any of them.

I quit dipping 17 months ago. After smoking for more years than I care to count, I threw them away this past New Year's Eve and haven't had one since. Quitting cold turkey ain't easy, let me tell ya

Most decent battery chargers these days have a switch for deep cycle batteries. A 10 amp rated charger will work fine most of the time, but again, some chargers allow you to make the choice on the amps. Check out what's available at Wallyworld or your local auto parts store.

I'll give you another reason for staying away from that one. Some of those pros beat the living daylights out of their rigs. That could be one of them.

While most outboards have an alternator to recharge the batteries, it never hurts to "top them off". Most of the better chargers will have a switch for charging deep-cycle batteries.

I've got a couple of those Mann's Elite Wakers on order. Shore fishermen on Lake Erie have been fishing with the biggest Redfins they can find for springtime walleye for a long time. I picked up three of those at the tackle shop a few weeks ago and put them on my spinning rods. I really like them.

According to Homer Circle in the Apr issue of BassMaster Magazine, a rainbow trout and a smallmouth are about equal when it comes to how hard they fight.....

I will use a shallow crankbait more often than anything these days, and in fact would rather throw one around bushes, etc. than a spinnerbait.

I owned one for a time. (Cabelas has several in their new Master Fishing Catalog) The only thing I would suggest is that you make yourself a fixed rudder to clamp to the stern while fishing from the front using the TM. It will help stabilize you in the wind. Otherwise it will blow you around even in a light breeze.

How To Give A Cat A Pill 1. Pick up cat and cradle it in the crook of your left arm as if holding a baby. Position right forefinger and thumb on either side of cat's mouth and gently apply pressure to cheeks while holding pill in right hand. As cat opens mouth, pop pill into mouth. Allow cat to close mouth and swallow. 2. Retrieve pill from floor and cat from behind sofa. Cradle cat in left arm and repeat process. 3. Retrieve cat from bedroom, and throw soggy pill away. 4. Take new pill from foil wrap, cradle cat in left arm, holding rear paws tightly with left hand. Force jaws open and push pill to back of mouth with right forefinger. Hold mouth shut for a count of ten. 5. Retrieve pill from goldfish bowl and cat from top of wardrobe. Call spouse from garden. 6. Kneel on floor with cat wedged firmly between knees, hold front and rear paws. Ignore low growls emitted by cat. Get spouse to hold head firmly with one hand while forcing wooden ruler into mouth Drop pill down ruler and rub cat's throat vigorously. 7. Retrieve cat from curtain rail, get another pill from foil wrap. Make note to buy new ruler and repair curtains. Carefully sweep shattered figurines and vases from hearth and set to one side for gluing later. 8. Wrap cat in large towel and get spouse to lie on cat with head just visible from below armpit. Put pill in end of drinking straw, force mouth open with pencil and blow down drinking straw. 9. Check label to make sure pill not harmful to humans, drink 1 beer to take taste away. Apply Band-Aid to spouse's forearm and remove blood from carpet with cold water and soap. 10. Retrieve cat from neighbor's shed. Get another pill. Open another beer. Place cat in cupboard, and close door on to neck, to leave head showing. Force mouth open with dessert spoon. Flick pill down throat with elastic band. 11. Fetch screwdriver from garage and put cupboard door back on hinges. Drink beer. Fetch bottle of scotch. Pour shot, drink. Apply cold compress to cheek and check records for date of last tetanus shot. Apply whiskey compress to cheek to disinfect. Toss back another shot. Throw Tee shirt away and fetch new one from bedroom. 12. Call fire department to retrieve the cat from across the road. Apologize to neighbor who crashed into fence while swerving to avoid cat. Take last pill from foil wrap. 13. Tie the little wretched's front paws to rear paws with garden twine and bind tightly to leg of dining table, find heavy-duty pruning gloves from shed. Push pill into mouth followed by large piece of filet steak. Be rough about it. Hold head vertically and pour 2 pints of water down throat to wash pill down. 14. Consume remainder of scotch. Get spouse to drive you to the emergency room, sit quietly while doctor stitches fingers and forearm and removes pill remnants from right eye. Call furniture shop on way home to order new table. 15. Arrange for SPCA to collect mutant cat and call local pet shop to see if they have any hamsters. To Give a Pill To a Dog: 1. Wrap in bacon. 2. Toss in the air towards the dog.

I'm retired from one job (23 years, Pa. State Police), and currently work as a groundskeeper at a state owned golf course on the shores of Kentucky Lake. 8-)

As I suspected, most of you have the culinary habits of a wild boar.

Didn't vote cuz I couldn't pick more than one I use the Long A, Rogue, and Redfin with an occasional Rapala.

I always figure that no matter the conditions, there is always more than one lure that could fill the bill, and so will have those rigged on my rods. If I'm in a really good area I might make one pass clear through it with just one, then go back and try another. Or I might alternate lures on the first pass.

About 25 miles away is a U.S. Bass tackle shop that carries a lot of good stuff. 14 miles away is a small tackle shop that is affiliated with BPS and will order anything you want from their catalog at the same price with no shipping charges Then there's the satellite shop of the Great Outdoor Store that just opened up down the road from the BPS affiliate.......life is good.

I just picked up several of the "rod wraps" for wrapping handles and did my spinning rods. You can wrap right over the reel seat on conventional spinning rods. Feels great.

I got hooked on using them about 20 years ago and wouldn't think of anything else. I like being to place the reel where I want it.

I've been using Silver Thread co-poly ever since it was introduced by Bagley's a long time ago, and I have absolutely ZERO complaints with it. It's still available from PRADCO and is one of the most reasonably priced lines out there.

+1 for the Cooks system.

There is a reason that they take "forever" to stock....IF ever. I was a backwall manager at a Dick's (fishing/camping/watersports) for awhile and finally quit out of frustration. Dick's works with a group of corporate "buyers". These people travel to the trade shows and are given a specific amount of $$$ to work with. Lets say that they see a lure or piece of tackle they like. They might spend X amount of bucks to buy X number of lures. Once they blow their shopping budget for the year....that's it. They get the initial shipment of lures/tackle they purchased and distribute them among the stores. Once they're gone, there's no purchasing bucks left to restock. Dick's stores can swap merchandise between stores if need be, but as for just picking up the phone and ordering more of what they just ran out of.......Nope.
