  1. Get away from shore. Fish deep points and ledges. Explore your lakes structure then find cover on that structure.
  2. I love the grass like a fat kid loves cake lol! First off the only line I use in grass is braid. Submerged or emergent doesn't matter much I fish em the same. After quite a bit of experimentation I have dialed my grass/weed fishing to only 3 rods. 1 a medium power fast action spinning for throwing weightless senkos and trick worms. I target holes and pockets in the weeds as well as toss em on top of the plants. Being weightless the bait just rest on top of the submerged plants. 2 a 7-3 mh or h casting rod that will throw a 1/2 to 3/4 tungsten weight (always pegged) and a streamlined plastic. I use this for lighte to medium cover. This setup lets me get some penetration down into the weeds. To light of weight and you can't get down there. Bass live down under the canopy that these plants create. 3 my absolute favorite! A 7-6 heavy to mag heavy that I use do 1 to 1.5 tungsten. I use this rod to punch everything. The thicker the better. Deep weeds under 5 or 10 feet of water offshore or tangled pennywort along the banks! Hope this helps. Braid is the way to go because it helps snap through the garbage. I use a tungsten weight because I can use the same weight but have a smaller profile.
  3. I just got a dobyns Sierra 702 spinning rod and a pflueger president for around that price. The Sierra has not been released yet but it's a sweet rod. I have also fished the Phoenix m1 and it's a nice rod. I am a dobyns fan and can tell you the customer service can't be beat. Great company owned by nice people.
  4. Never seen or heard of these. I will tell you, bass are masters of their environment. They will find it and they will eat it if it looks alive. The rage brand of plastics have a lot of action that is easily sensed by the bass lateral line.
  5. Lol hard to keep track! Pre spawn lake Oroville I think I caught 100 in a 2 day week end
  6. They are flat back line through
  7. 7 inch I am probably reaching for a 4/0. No need for ewg!
  8. Looks about right. Same hooks I butch brown rig my hudds with. I will run em and see how it goes.
  9. Thank you I didn't get hooks with them so I'm goin to use 1/0 owners?
  10. I have been wondering the same thing. How did they lower the price on the new model ct vs the og?
  11. Funny you would bring this up! I have had the same experience. All my reels are treated extremely well and stored indoors. I have a tatula that just won't go smooth. The rest are great!
  12. I just got a screaming deal on a bunch of line through ospreys. I have the gear and I have caught fish on swimbaits. I usually use hudds, mattlures and bull shads. I am just curious as to any pointers you might have. The line through design places the treble on the bottom so I am assuming the bait is designed to be fished a bit faster to keep it off the bottom? Thanks for any input!
  13. Does any one have any experience with this fishing buddy max di? Or any fish finder on a float tube?
  14. In my area if an adult largemouth has the choice during summer, it will go deep. Lots of structure fishing.
  15. The rod has a lot to do with it as well as skill level. I have watched videos of guys in Japan turning all the breaks off, including spool tension. I can cast 1/4 ounce on my tatula no problem on a calm day. But for a reel specifically made for bfs you want to research reels that are supported by aftermarket spools. Check out Japan tackle or hedge hog studios. Another reel that can be found pretty cheap is the shimano brenious. It comes from Japan with a shallow spool.
  16. The Sierra is being offered with a few full cork models Never mind you are looking at over 7
  17. Choose one or two techniques and get good at them. Senkos, spinnerbaits and Texas rigs are a good start. Nothing teaches better than time on the water.
  18. I use 30 lb braid and a 733 dobyns
  19. Yes we had a lot of rain this year and the lake was at 95 percent before summer. Of course we are letting water out right now and preparing for salmon season on the feather.
  20. I live 15 minutes from lake Oroville. It is predominantly a spotted bass lake. The numbers here are prolific. I'm talking some times 50 plus fish a day! Most the spots are between 12 and 16 inches. We do have largemouth and smallmouth but they are fairly rare and usually caught on accident while fishing for spots.
  21. Learn your rate of falls based on weight and lure buoyancy. For example a 3/8 ounce weight will sink faster with a strait tail worm than it would with a big thick water displacing craw. To get a swing impact to run at 15 feet you probably need a bit of weight if you don't want to reel it slow. Start with 1/2 ounce and go from there. I would be throwing 3/4 or bigger spinnerbaits to hit those depths. Or you could drop shot with a long leader.
