  1. I fish from float tubes and yaks a lot. My Dobyns 735 has served me well in very thick pennywort with punch weights up to 1 oz. I want to throw 1.25 maybe up to a 2 oz punch rig but want to stick with the shorter rod. 7"6 or 8 foot rods are difficult to accurately punch from these play forms. Any suggestions?
  2. New or used. New it's a great deal. Used I would just spend the extra 20 or 30 and buy new
  3. Yes do me a favor and remove some line
  4. Over filled maybe. Like way over filled. Should be 1/8 inch or so before you hit the shoulder on the spool. Try taking off some line. I have the same reel and have used the same line.
  5. Thanks guys
  6. Never tie a crappie knot lol
  7. Punching pays off!!!
  8. I ordered a new spool for my pflueger pres. 6925. One spool was going to be for strait fluoro and one braid to leader for drop shot. Well they sent the wrong spool (6920) the spool fits the reel and the drag adjustment knob fits everything fine. The only difference is the drag is notably smaller, the capacity is a little less and the spool is lighter. Thoughts? Or should I return. By the way the 6925 is plenty big for drop shotting for me. I have caught several fish over 6 lbs this year on this setup. I am just wondering if the drag will be ok with the 20 size spool.
  9. I use regular tatulas. They work great! Good drag and plenty of line capacity. I upgrade the bushings at the ends of the worm gear to bearings and added bearings to the handles. Only reason to get a type R is if you wanted the super fast gears.
  10. With the rods you already own, none of the rods mentioned are going to blow you away. However if you step up to an avid or a champion I think you will be pleased.
  11. The Dobyns fury 795 is great for baits in the 1 to 3.5 oz range. It is rated to 5 oz but I think that is a bit optimistic.
  12. Hardest fighting freshwater fish for me is the sturgeon.
  13. Who did you talk to down there. 744 I think is only an option in the extreme line. Lot of coin choose wisely and good luck. I will say the guys down at the shop no their stuff so if he says it has what you need I would trust it Lol never mind I see the rod is a champion
  14. It's about the tip. Dobyns powers are different. I used to throw 1/2 oz jigs on a 734. Went to a 735 and love it. This Also I personally own 12 Dobyns rods and have personally fished all the powers you are asking about. A 734 is more of a mh.
  15. That's what this site is for. Glad I could help
  16. Please get a 5 power Dobyns for jigs!
  17. Anti reverse ratchet, small drag washer, main gear, drag washer and drag pressure plate. That is the order to place on to the handle shaft. Google the reels schematic. While you are in there toss that drag washer and get some carbontex lol
  18. Grinding while retrieving or casting? When is the sound made.
  19. Again it depends. Test all swimbaits in a pool or clear water to make sure they swim true and look natural at rest. Wow 40 seconds per turn is super slow. I have a few basic retrieves I use. I slow crank them on a 5:1 like maybe 4 or 5 seconds per turn nice and steady. I also like to do 2 or 3 turns at about double that speed then kill it for a few seconds. Play with the retrieve the fish will teach you what you are looking for this is not a science. You have to throw that bait in front of a big fish and ultimately she will decide lol
  20. I work the drop shot in place for a bit. Then I might pop it or drag it a few feet then work it in place again. I rarely get bit when the rig is moving. Most bites are when I am working the bait in place. There are better options in my opinion for dragging a bait on the bottom
  21. Kinda depends on your water. If you are fishing less that 10 feet deep use the rof5. Deeper than 10 ft use the rof12. I usually fish them slow and on the bottom just a super slow steady retrieve is what gets bit. If you are seriously going to throw hudds buy name brand!
  22. Lake Oroville the spots will do the same
