  1. I have been using the St. Croix MF 7' with 10lb mono for my 3XD and 5XD. When youre setting the hook its important to sweep the rod. I have at least a 80-90% catch ratio. Ive only lost 1 fish this year on that so far. I even landed a 33" 15lb Northern on that set up. Definitely find the sweet spot for your drag to where when you set hook you get penetration pressure but if the fish runs will pull. Contstant pressure is key with keeping them on the hooks. Also, a net is a great addition to your crankbait rod lol I try and get them to the boat and in the net asap.
  2. I personally like to use shakey heads with a zoom trick worm and t-rigs with a Berkley Power Worm. I had A LOT of success with that when I was bank fishing. Also, I had success with a popper. Depending on where I was fishing I would throw a black and blue jig, hop and crawl it all the way back to you. Several times I had a fish smack it 3 foot from the bank.
  3. I lost a 35+ inch muskie at the boat with 50lb braid. Absolutely inhaled my frog. Not much I could have done haha about made me sick.
  4. I would say try it out. Use a rig that can be used for punching and flipping and just work the entire mat.
  5. if youre in a slump, slow it down! i know when im in a slump i fish way too fast. try the senko untill low light hours and then try a frog. if you dont have big bass in the lake grab a JR. frog and try it out. good luck man!
  6. ^^^ agreed. you could try a weighted texas rigged senko and that might help you get down in the weeds and not hang up a lot.
  7. I was fishing a pond in the middle of my city that was stocked with bass. I was throwing a squarebill in the middle of the pond. I get slammed by what I thought was a nice bass. I set hook and started reeling. Seeing my line run for the surface I thought I was about to see a big ole mouth and gills, boy was I wrong. To my surprise, a big ole mallard came flying out of the water with my crankbait in its mouth! My buddies just died laughing! I had no clue what to do! I ended up cutting my line pretty quick and the stretch just sling shotted the line towards the duck and wrapped it. The duck fell back into the pond and was struggling. It ended up getting the front hook in its foot and looked like it was going to drown. I swam out and got the duck, my buddy held the duck as I got the hooks out of it. It was like the duck knew we were helping it and stayed calm the entire time! One of the strangest stories of my life. I wish I had the old flip phone with the pictures still!!
  8. Personally i would throw top water early, if you're not getting bit I would switch quick.
  9. I think you're failing to understand how to make money off YouTube. You have to have subscribers and views. They have kids, spouses, mortgage payments etc. If you don't like the way they run their channel, then don't subscribe or watch it? The V-Logs are for their fans who appreciate them.
  10. I will absolutely (in no particular order): Make sure there is oil in the boat and the trolling motor is charged Have a jig and crank bait tied on Try new spots/techniques Handle fish with respect!
  11. ayyyy atta boy
  12. Im in Spokane, close enough haha
  13. I would try and find the deepest structure you can find, close to where they spawned and drop shot it.
  14. I love drop shotting for smallies when you know they are there. Also, fish the steep banks with a strike kind 3xd. They cant stay away from it.
  15. I love the 3xd for them in that range. That crank deflects really well off rock too. I like it on 10-12 line. as long as you have a M rod you will be fine. Also, try swimming a grub worm. Let it sink to the right depth and let that little tail do all the work for you. you will also be surprised about how far they will go for some top water action.
  16. It looks like a very small lake or a large pond, maybe they are spawning with the water 70. Try extremely shallow with swim jigs (match whatever bait fish are in there ie. bluegill or crappie color) I like lizards, you can swim, hop or drag them over their beds for good results. a weightless fluke could be a good idea as well
  17. It sounds like you need to change ponds lol
  18. I would throw 12lb mono or 25-30lb braided line on it and fish literally anything from light t-rigs to medium divers. I wouldn't throw anything over 1/2oz though.
  19. The line acting like a slinky is the best analogy for what was happening! Im gonna give the 20lb braid and a leader on my spinning rod a go. Using backing for a cheaper way to spool it is genius! Ill let you guys know how it works out for me. Thank you for the advice!
  20. THIS IS PERFECT
  21. Do you have a problem with setting hook on the spinning rod? What lb braid do you use for that set up, 20-30?
  22. I have recently started to venture into the grass. The lakes up here have a ton of milfoil and other miscellaneous grass so I have to adapt. Hardly any wood at all. I have been caching fish flipping t-rigged structure bugs and 1/2 oz jigs. I have been wanting to dedicated some time into weightless senkos, weightless flukes, and weightless finesse worms. I feel my set up isn't optimal. I have the casting St. Croix Mojo 7' MH that i have been using. Its paired with p-line cxxx in 15lb. The light lure makes the line stay super coiled and hard to really feel confident that I am seeing/feeling bites. What would be a better line/rod in this situation? Should I drop to a M and lighter line or is it the line itself? I would like to explore a different brand of line for sure. Any advice or experience is appreciated.
  23. nice fish man, im in spokane!
  24. if this doesn't catch them, there isnt fish in the lake to be caught.
  25. i would have never thought about that in my life.
