  1. We as anglers need to be a little more open minded and welcome anyone that has so much to offer to the sport. This world of tournament Bass fishing is open to everyone with a passion for the outdoors. I am not a minority but I have been shuned by anglers on circuits that I start as I move around the country untill they get to know me. Bass fishermen are a strange breed, They long for reconition in the sport as they lead a secret fishing life. I met Ish at Russo's on the CA Delta as I was pre fishing for a TOC this year. He is a great person as well as a great angler, and has some cool rims on his Big Black Chevy Truck. I use the Tora Tube also. It is just a different approach to big swim baits and great for HUGE bedding bass. Go BIG or Go HOME! See y'all in VA in March. FISH HARD OR LEAVE IT ON THE TRAILER! The Bass Magnet Ken Kirk
  2. Best fish came on a River2Sea swimbait in Clear Lake CA. Only got 8 bites. Best 5 were 11.1, 8.3, 6, 6, 5.8. SMOKE'N GOD BLESS CLEAR LAKE CA Com'n t the EAST for 07. Fish Hard or Leave it on the Trailer! TBM
  3. Bass Pro and all, You guys give great advice, thanks. And I got it. Thanks for the help. It sure sounds like their is a lot going on on the east coast and I can not wait to get involved. I also can not wait to get back to the east coast a spread the word about no sweat mist for y'alls boats. This stuff is so good it is going to flip you out. check out my sig. Ken Kirk The Bass Magnet
  4. Bass Pro, Thanx for the advice, I have statred just using heads and putting my own bodys on them. What are you calling Super Cold Water???? TBM
  5. Avid, Thanks for that info, What about trimming skirts do you or anybody you know do it? Asfaras trailers I use parts of other soft baits that end up in the bottom of the boat. After an outting I will pick up all the baits in the bottom of the boat and what I can not reglue I will use for trailers. I have never bought a trailer. I even use 6-8 in swimbait bodys for trailers on my spinner baits. Do you do the same? Other than pork, is their any other trailer that you use or would recomend? Please Keep in mind that I am not talking about Summer conditions, I am only talking winter. water between 38-50 degs. Bass Magnet.
  6. Gents, I need your help. What kind of Jigs should I use when the water temp drops. Football, Mushroom heads, Darter Heads, Big Skirts or Small, Creature Baits or Jig and Pig What colors Black/Blue, Brown with tint, Trailers?? Craw, worms or parts, kreature parts or the good old Cow Toung. 1/8th oz or 3/4 Just try'n to find out what you VA guys are using to catch the bass out there in the winter. The Bass Magnet
  7. Go to the No Sweat web site and look at all the big fish under the tag on the bottom "Misty Girls. They go to all the major events in California...They are No Sweat Mist. TBM
  8. Danny, I have fished all over the great state of Texas. You should do it and do it with a smile. First, Never sale yourself short. I have been fishing pro in California for over a year now and just last weekend I back-boated for a 29 year vet pro angler out here. I caught more fish than him during the tournament, not because I am better that him, but because I think out of the box and I never forget things I learn when I fish with others. If you are going to do the TTT words of strong advice! Be Prepared for any situation that the front part of the boat could put you in. Once you are paired, talk to him and ask him what you should bring to fish. If he does not tell you, (BRING IT ALL...... 14 RODS, ALL, AND I MEAN ALL OF YOUR TACKLE, RAIN SUIT...........) Get the picture? THEY WILL! Most Pros want you to win from their boat. If they do not they are not much of a pro. They know the game and most of them play if fairly. Good Luck my fishing brother. Kick some BASS... The Bass Magnet
  9. Lake Sutton, Rocks. Not a lot of people, other than locals Know about that lake. I fished it hard when I liver in Jacksonville NC. I believe that is one of NC top 5 lakes. It is small butr the bass are smokin. If you go back out and want another PB. Try two things 1) 20lb line throw a 8" river to sea white swim bait off the corner that seperates the outlet side and the inlet side. Throw if for about three hours. You will freek out at how big the bass are that are in there. After you do that try drop shotting a Zoom smokin shad 4" worm on deep rip raff or blow downs. I love that Lake. One of my favs. Ken The Bass Magnet
  10. This is one of the best post I have seen on this site. This info is good for the new and old alike. All line has its pros and cons but when you get the opportunity check out Hi-Seas web site. It will explain a lot about their lines and might answer some questions. They are my line of choice. It is always good to contact the company if you have a question about their line. All of them have a way to contact them and Hi-Seas is very good about helping out. They care about the angler. The Bass Magnet
  11. Ya Might be right about the swimbait but If I am going to throw around pads or grass with anything I will be throwing a Snag Proof frog. ( Big Fish Love EM.) Swimming sinkos are still a gimmick. If you dont believe, dead stick one and see and let me know how that works for ya. Fish hard and keep the comms coming. It is great to have passion. NOT CAUGHT ON A SWIMMING SINKO!
  12. Another thing, The hook set better be lighter with braid. If it is not, just wait till your next cast with it. It takes some time to get use to.
  13. Crazed Fish, I have learned that mono haz its place and Braid haz its place. You can use all mono but you CAN NOT USE ALL BRAID. It will cause you to lose fish. For froggin in heavy cover/grass I recomend 50+lb Power Pro braid but for spinner baits I do not. Power Pro is the only Braid I will use. as far as mono or co-polymer I will only use HI-SEAS LINE. Your rod set up plays a big part in this. If you are using a broom handle for a flippin stick (be carefull) when you set the hook with braid, something has to give ether the rod or the line will break on BIG fish. Study knots for braid!!! I recommend that you check out HI-Seas Line They have anything that an angler would need. and not a lot of fresh water anglers know about their products. They Kick butt. That is all I use.
  14. I, just as every one was lured in by the swimming senkos, Everyone knows that what makes a sinko so effective is the way they fall when no action is applied to the rod. They are great on suppended bass along vert walls and dead sticked around structure or even in the open. The problem with the swim snko is that they dont fall like a regular snko, the only way they work is that they have to be retreived. If you are going to do that you might as well use a swimbait. Good Luck with that. bass magnet
  15. As far as what a rod does depends on how you use it. Todays Advance tech. allow manufactures to do almost anything. I just fished a Championship Tournament on the Ca Delta. I was using 50lb power pro Braid on my new Castaway flippin stick. During practice I kept breaking off big fish on the hook set. It was not the rod, it was not the line or even the knot. (double Palamar). It was a combo of everything. Before day one in the tourney I took off the braid and put on 20lb Hi-Seas White Lighting and my problems were over. Braid has no stretch my flippin stick had almost no give in the tip, cause thats the way I like it. So I learned that unless you have a rod with a forgiving tip stay away from even Power Pro Braid. What I am saying is that everything has to match from rod handle to tip and weight to the reel you use down to the type of line you are using to the weight of the jig or crank bait that you are throwing. examples of what I use -14in swimbait 7ozs- 8 ft MH rod 6.2:1 reel 20 to 30 lb mono -Frogs around grass- 7.5 ft rod 5.1:1 reel at least 50lb braid - big/deep cranks - 7ft MH rod 5.1:1 reel 15-20lb mono - small cranks/blades- 6.6ft M rod 6.2:1 reel 12-15 mono - drop shot- 5.5 ft spinning rod m act, 8-12lb Hi-Seas White Lighting Line (only) This is how I set things up for me, as a disclamer You have to do things that work for you and your style of fishing. Good Luck and FISH HARD OR LEAVE IT ON THE TRAILER! The Bass Magnet
  16. Their is no question that CASTAWAY Rods makes the best rods for every app. I use them for rippin, flippin, castin, crankin, froggin, wormin, swimbaits and just plan lookin good on the deck of my Stratos.
  17. I use the Lucky Craft Pointer when I rip and I have learned a lot about rippin submerged grass when the water is high and the fish are scattered. The rip bait or jerk bait is designed as a reaction bait that makes bass bite even when they are not feeding. I can not wait to get back to the East coast and try some rippin on those waters
  18. Thanks for the tips... Great site..... I'll see you in 07... Ken Kirk comming from Cali
