  1. Loving the Ned Rig myself. Have the same experiences the last two weeks. I even took my wife out who has been frustrated with fishing this year. It was slow at first and then as I was fishing the front of the boat I hear from her in the back.... "I think I am stuck on a log, can you help me" I turn around and her "log" came out of the water and I said... "um, I am sorry but your log is a bass, you may want to try and land it honey .. lol! Ended up catching 10 bass in the 1 lb-2lb range, 4 catfish (which seem to really like the Ned Rig also) and a couple of nice sized crappie. But it seems like the lighter the jig head, the better results I am getting out of it.
  2. Adak....good times! No, not really lol!
  3. I picked up all the required tackle last weekend and this week the Ned Rig was given its trial run. I went fishing early going up my favorite banks , picked up a few fish using a square bill and havoc pit boss. But not really getting many bites. So I decided to give the Ned it's chance... I turned the boat around and started back down the same banks. I just wanted to say first I was extremely skeptical, but on the 3rd cast... Fish on! And so on and so on all the way back. I could not believe how many fish I caught and what I had missed when I came the other way. I can't wait to get out and experiment more with it next weekend. Great bait I am completely sold and thanks Bass Resource and forum members for all the information.
  4. I am on the Illinois side of the river from St Louis. Anyone here fish the River King Strip Mines in New Athens? Also do Alot of fishing at Kinkaid and next week I will be spending 4 days on Kentucky Lake.
  5. I have a lot of confidence using a SK 1.5 and 2.5. And to be honest I too have not seen that much of a difference in the strikes I get from the color I am using. Most of my bites are right after i bump something so i really believe that is the key. However I caught 4 different species of fish using the orange craw one day (largemouth, striper, crappie and a muskie). I have Arashi and Lucky Strike models, just haven't used them yet because of the SK success.

    Hello

My name is Rich. I was for many years a struggling bassaholic, but life sort of got in the way and "cured" me of that habit for about 20 years. Fortunately I have had a major set back and I am back to my old ways again. I am from Illinois, back in the day i was former military and was out in California "honing" my meager skills at places like Lake Berryessa and the Delta in the late 80's and early 90's. I moved back to Illinois after the military with the dilusuonal idea of buying a boat, fishing tournaments and applying all I painstakingly learned from California. It didn't happen. Now all these years have passed, I just last year bought a nice used 18.5 foot bass tracker, and I can't stop fishing LOL! Alot of things have changed with BASS fishing, some have not. I recently went to a winter fishing show and was surprised to learn alot of my thousands of dollars of fishing tackle is now considered vintage.... Anyways I have been watching Bass resource videos quite a bit, lost a few of your guess the weight of the fish contests (so close... lol) and look forward to inter-acting with the community.
  7. LOL! When you live in this state, you appreciate those! I don't live in California anymore!
  8. I am wanting to expand the pattern that I run, but I guess like alot of anglers I get stuck in that mind set that I have a hard time trying to change it up because what I do I have Alot of success with. I fish alot of strip mine lakes and others in southern Illinois. My one two "knockout" pattern is keeping my boat about 10 feet parallel off the bank and toss a Strike King 1.5 squarebill crank bait. I try to hit every rock, limb etc I can see. If I get into too much heavy cover or overhanging trees I just can't get into, I toss some type of jig with a Rage Tail craw. So far this year I have caught several 5lb plus lunker and even missed the bass of a lifetime. Yes I still cry myself to sleep over that one... So what's your 1,2 pattern that your run that maybe I should try especially with the spawn coming to an end in my area that will help me continue my early success?
