  1. Look at stank baits zed head I'm pretty sure he is pouring his with tin
  2. The line was spoiled correctly and line conditioner was added while spoiling and also before my trip I'm very anal about my spinning reels. I have this exact same set up on a shimano with no issues it'gotta be the reel
  3. Nope sure didn't first thing I looked for as I'm a shimano man myself should have never strayed
  4. Ya it's spoiled on there right and yes always close bail by hand. It's just amazing how quick it puts in line twist and how much line slap I get on that reel
  5. I purchased a fuego lt spinning reel and paired it with a dobyns champ extreme hp 742. The reel balances the rod out very nicely. The fuego seems very well built and the drag seems to run nice. The reel is smooth when retrieving. I really like the larger bail wire they use. I spoiled the reel with 8lb sunline super sniper floro. I don't have this issue with shimano but man does this reel put the wind knots in ur line. Not sure if it's a design flaw or i just got a bad one but the reel constantly spools the line below where it's supposed to be. And no there is no spacer washer in the reel. It will reel fine for about 5 casts then bam.
  6. I actually prefer rubber keepers alot easier to carry extra skirts then extra jigs
  7. Ever green one bug popper will be added this year. From what I've read it's a cross be tween a Rico and a splash it so should mix in nice and have a little more subtle plunk with little more splash to work with
  8. I think you will be happy with that dobyns rod...i think Loomis and dobyns power ratings are very comparable. I wouldn' throw those s wavers on it but to cut down on rods in ur yak I would feel comfortable saying this is the rod for you.
  9. Ya I went with the champ extreme I just couldn' get over how long the handle was on the model I was looking at in the imx pro series
  10. Dobyns rods run light ild call there mh a medium mh or medium heavy light if that makes sense. Look more at lure weight range then anything and try to stay in the middle. But at the same time I don't feel all these to be 100% true either. Every company has their own set of standards. Old say in my own experiences max on that rod would be about 1/2 oz by the time u add a trailer. Not that it can't throw 3/4 oz jigs there are just better tools for the job. As far as crank baits the 704cb runs very light I'm pretty sure it's the 704 cb what ever number there mh is I personally didn't care to much for throwing cranks on it but it found a home as a dedicated Jerk bait rod in my lineup. I throw from 1/4-5/8 oz jerks on that rod.
  11. Thabks for your imput. What makes the dobyns a better value. Both rods are at the 350 mark and warranty is basically the same...break it pay cash get it replaced or am I missing something in the fine print
  12. Personally I throw my a rig on a pike rod I have so I just feel the extra weight. What I was Try in to get at is most people don't realize how heavy an a rig actually is once everything is on it. Not setting up properly to throw something of that magnitude will burn up reels and put alot of stress on a rod not to mention make it harder to fish for long periods of time. Fishing for musky often u learn the right rod very quickly when it comes to heavier baits the wrong rod will wear you out quickly
  13. Agreed. Most people who throw a rigs on lighter set ups do it because they don't have a dedicated set up. Between the three I would choose the dobyns swimbaits rod and a good heavy duty reel. To buy an a rig rod and use for double duty to me just don't make sense unless u plan on throwing 1.5 to 2 oz jigs on it it would be a broom stick for anything else.
  14. Does anyone have any first hand knowledge of the major differences between these two mostly sensitivity. I know the Loomis is more tip heavy. Debating one buying one or the other for a spinning set up
  15. Hit clear lake yesterday watertemp ranged from 47.7-51. Fish were on breaks and not doing a thing. Managed one little pike.
  16. This I totally disagree with tapers in rods imply different actions to the rod blank itself. There is a big difference in a 7' mh crank bait rod comparing to a 7' mh jig rod even if both are made of the same material.
  17. I wouldn't specify the fury line as technique specific. They are more just generic. Anyone can take a medium power rod put what it could be used for and call it tech specific. Dobyns fury rods are very nice though. I personally have 6 of them. Another rod to look at would be the daiwa tatula line. Or for a little more the tatula elites which are tech specific.
  18. Sennettackle pace maker think whopper plopped with attitude on a h toothtamer rod it is my muskie rod but runs double duty
  19. Just curious what settings you were at on your curado k. I have two of them. And one gives me fits every once in awhile. I think I've settled on 2int 2-3 external. For casting 3/8 oz jerkbaits
  20. I know ild be happy with any of the above and I'm sure it's like everything else everybody has there favorite brand. I know I do and it's a toss up between dobyns and Loomis each rod has it's place.
  21. I recently started making my own firecracker jigs and finesse football jigs in 1/4 oz and would like to have a dedicated spinning set up. I currently fish them on a dx742hp with braid but this seems a little light for my preferences. Love that rod though. So old like to purchase another rod for this application and I'm just curious if anyone has any experience with the tatula elites or imx pro or the dx743hp. Preferably someone with exp with more then just one of them models I'm interested in are as follows tatula tael731 or 741 both are medium powered rods rated for 3/16 to 1/2 oz the 731 is a 7'3" exfast and the 741 is a 7'4" fast action or the imx pro 892sjwr which is a 7'5" medium power exfast action rated for 1/8-3/8 oz. I will be using sunline super sniper floro in 8# and reel of choice will be handled once I figure out what rod. Sorry I can't seem to find anywhere local that carries these rods on hand so I'm asking here and I know these kinds of things get asked a million times daily.
  22. Yes and no it's really hard to beat the pause of a jerk bait in cold water. I have had success watching bass in shallow water destroy a school of shad so I threw the spy in middle of shad and let it fall threw them then started to burn it back to me. Not saying it was the bait I did it mostly because we were out for fun and the light rod made it worth it other then that I would have fished a jerk bait
  23. Impossible to fish these things to slow compared to the rate of fall they are a deep water bait... well meant to be anyways. Spybaiting is a slow process it is def not a search bait u gotta find the fish suspended in clear water and schooled up then go to work on them. This is not a power technique at all. I'll repeat deep clear watwr technique reel in slow and when u think ur going slow slow down some more. Light line and spinning gear. I run 5# sniper. Duo came out with the 90 and gfx just to sell in us to guys trying to adapt it to power technique not that it won't work but this bait was designed to fish sssssslllllooooooowwwwwwww
  24. If it having luck with smaller hooks you might try flick shake heads very close to a shaky but mixed with a wacky rig. Very good for something a little different
  25. Circle b in steuben county has a few primitive sites right on the water it's on hogback lake.
