  1. Hey guys anybody around Frederick? I've never been to MD but my wife has to go up there for some job training and I'm going with since I didn't want her going alone. I will be pretty much sitting in hotel all week during the day July 19-22. Might be a long shot but I'd love to catch a bass or 2 in the area if anyone around there.
  2. Got a Abu Garcia vigilante rod today. It was on clearance at Walmart for $15. I have no idea what it was suppose to cost buy seemed like a decent rod. I got a 6'6 medium but it feels much more like a MH.
  3. Anyone know anything about a 4th of July sale for BPS and TW? I know its still a few weeks off but really need another pro qualifier reel and a handful of deep cranks. Hoping to catch a sale
  4. Normally this time if year when I expect to find bass in the middle of the lake anything over 15mph means white capping. So I go to the river instead
  5. I like a slow roll. Just enough to make the tail work along with some bumps of the rod tip. If a bass is following I would burn it or kill it and let it fall or both. Also might be color that's putting the bass off.
  6. They may not even out with the price I never did the research on it. I will say that a good charger/maintainer goes a Long way in making batteries last
  7. should be fine with those but I have been debating on getting some AGM batts the next time I need one. they offer many more amp hours. but they are a little pricey
  8. thanks again for the great explanation, Is my hummingbird unit capable of broadcasting both those frequencies at the same time? Helix 5 SI,GPS
  9. OK cool thanks for the detailed reply. You raised one more question with me tho. What is the difference in the 200 and 83 kHz? And what would dictate which one I use?
  10. OK that makes sense. Do all freshwater fish have air bladders? I know catfish do. Also what am I changing by increasing the sensitivity then, am I picking up air bubbles or something when it's increased?
  11. Somebody should tell Glenn this is the kind of giveaways we're looking for
  12. Can anyone explain exactly how this works? I find it easier than the traditional arches but what makes the FF determine if its a fish or not? Also curious about the sensitivity setting, the factory setting is 5 and I never really picked up any fish but now on 7 I see a lot more. Can anyone shed some light on this and what setting to run? (helix 5) Thanks
  13. I bought one off amazon for $20 buck went with the one you screw on. Its still saves many holes since anytime I change or move my TD I don't drill any extra holes in boat. It also looks very clean when finished. I didn't like the strictly glue on versions. Just don't think glue on 2 flat surfaces will have much strength. If you do go that route I would cut a small checkered pattern about a 1/16th deep into the Mount to give the epoxy some extra hold for lack of a better word.
  14. Sounds like a pretty awesome opportunity man. Good luck
  15. Bass fishing can be tough from the bank. But on a pond there's still a good chance of catching good fish. You asked a lot of questions and I think the best advice I can give you is to read the articles on this site. You will learn everything you need to know. Good luck and don't give up
  16. I recently changed out all my reels to the BPS pro qualifier. Which IMO is the best real you can get for under a hundred bucks. They do everything I need them too. As for rods I don't get too carried away maybe because I'm cheap or maybe because I know a few tourney guys that do just fine with the cheaper rods. Right now most of my rods are Berkeley cherrywoods ($22 at Walmart). I like using similar equipment for all my setups this way when I switch everything feels the same.
  17. I lube hubs every other trip and I just pump the water out and a small amount of grease. After about 3 or 4 years I remove bearings to inspect and either replace or repack (normally replace). This might not apply to everyone as I only live 20 mins from my lake and 5,mins from the river so my trailer See's few miles. Changing plugs annually is not bad practice but not always necessary. I normally run mine for 2 seasons but they get checked and cleaned more often. ( always check plug wires for rust and corrosion)
  18. I change the oil in my lower unit annually. I also like to drop the foot and inspect the water pump impellor, if all looks good I spray it down good with wd40 to keep it from getting stiff over winter. I always use stabil in my tanks during the 3 months I don't fish. That's about it. Everything else is done as needed
  19. Looking to hone in on my crankin this summer offshore. I read a few articles and the sticky so now I wanted to know some of your favorite baits that you use from now to fall. I have a Norman dd22, a handful of the strike king XD series And a bunch of red eye shad's. When I say deep I mean 10ft and up. So what's your favorites? Wide or tight wobble?
  20. I don't see why you couldn't, only one way to know if there's bass there
  21. I always have better luck with docks near deeper water
  22. I don't have a definite asnwer.I use mono backing with my braid so I'm only running about a 100 or so yards of braid. When I'm getting to the end of the braid on a Long cast is when I respool. I've Also had one instance where the braid looked kind of unraveled after much use and I respooled it
  23. Please do. I would love to hear it.
  24. This was a good read. All I can add is that my grandfather told me he used to fish the mouths of all the major feeder creeks buy trolling cranks back and forth all day long
