  1. Maybe I'm just a curmudgeonly old fart and set in my ways, but I never could see the new spinnerbaits with the colored blades. Some have two colored blades, but a lot of them have only one that's colored. Blue, red, chartreuse, sunburst ... they're all there. Have any of you REALLY noticed an increase in bass with these spinnerbaits? If so, was there any certain or special circumstance under which the colored blades worked better, or was the difference general and across the board? Thnx for the replies. jj
  2. Glad for you! I won't go into all the things I and my family have gone through, but suffice to say some doctors cure problems, some doctors cause problems. People put them on a pedestal, but they're just humans like all the rest of us. And again ..... you have a great friend in @haggard. jj
  3. Welcome! Merle Travis fan maybe? ? jj
  4. Truer words were never said! Different facets of the issue appeal to different people, and to different degrees. It's easy to get lost in that maze. jj
  5. You need to be careful in that some magnesium alloys are different than others. Some are so soft that you can scratch them with your fingernail. jj
  6. I have three Strike King Mini Pro Buzz buzzbaits, and they're perfect for a reduced presence. Head weight is 3/16, and total weight is right at 1/3 oz. jj
  7. Google "Alan Hawk". He has the ins with several manufacturers, including Daiwa. jj
  8. Alan Hawk thinks that the monocoque bodies will be trickling down to the lower priced tiers. jj
  9. Some one else may have an inside track about this. Second entry down. http://www.alanhawk.com/reviews/news.html jj
  10. I saw a lady this last weekend who had an ultralight rod and the spool was filled to the brim. She had so many double-feed knots coming off that thing that she was almost crying. Filling a reel too full is a recipe for disaster, and most people underestimate how much trouble it can cause. And it's simple to find out whether that IS the cause of the problem; cut line off until the spool is filled only to 1/8" below the spool lip, and see if that cures the problem. If it does, you're good to go. I would recommend not using a retailer to install line. Yes, I know, I know .... some of them are excellent. But some aren't. Good luck! jj
  11. Well, it looks like we all have one thing in common; we hate trash and the people that leave it. jj
  12. Try it and see. I have a H/M fiberglass rod that I use for everything except bottom contact. Most bass fishermen try to get me committed, but I love that rod and do well with it. Probably some people here will tell you that your rod is not good for this or that, but in the final analysis it's up to you. What if you try it for that and love it? Are you gonna believe the naysayers then? I don't think so. And what if everyone says it's just purrrrfect but you hate it? Then what? Will you continue to use it even if you hate it for those things? Uh .... nope. So go ahead .... try it. See what you think. You're the only one that matters. ? jj
  13. Which color, if I may ask? jj
  14. Don't I know .... don't I know! ?? jj
  15. Use your new Dobyns for this: 1) Take a set of weights, like 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, and 3/4. Try to cast them a good distance. Tally the results. 2) Do the exact same thing with the Sahara and tally those results. 3) Compare. I'm gonna bet that the results will be the same. If your Sahara was casting further on a different rod, put the Ci4+ on that rod and compare results. Maybe rod is too stiff, guides are different, or stripper is a different distance, etc.? jj
  16. Yes. I found that out the hard way. ? jj
  17. My favorite jerkbaits have been the Bomber Long A series; I've used them for years. They are rising lures. Has anyone experienced drastic differences in results between rising and suspending jerkbaits, especially post-spawn? Thnx. jj
  18. I agree with @Shimano_1. I have a Curado 70, and I absolutely love it .... when it's working. Kinda like the old Triumph 650 motorcycles. I've heard people say the K doesn't cast lighter weights well at all, but I never got accurate ideas of what the weight was that they were trying to cast. The Tatula with low-stretch mono or FC and (personally) the 6'-08" M/XF Mojo rod would work fine from the bank. I had the 7'-01" M/F Mojo, and it was fine, but too long for some of the places I fish with overhanging branches. Like @Hammer 4 said, a bass won't race toward you when you're on the bank; that happens when you're in a boat. Good luck. jj
  19. His net worth is estimated at (variously) 4.0 to 6.8 billion dollars. I'd say that makes him a big duck in ANY puddle. Don't get me wrong; I don't like BPS. Still, you have to give the man his due. jj
  20. M/MF is the rod I have for smaller cranks. I tried to use it for bottom contact, and although it will work, it definitely wasn't the best. The problem is the flex/deflex in the top portion. On a steady retrieve, the top is pre-loaded, or flexed. When a hit comes, the time and distance-of-arc to access the backbone are both short. So if you have a steady-retrieve ribbontail or creature, it'll work. In bottom contact, you deflex the rod when the bait hits the bottom and you wait for the pick-up. There's no pre-load. So when a fish picks up your T-rig, let's say, you have a much greater distance-of-arc to move through, and subsequently a greater time delay to get to the rod's backbone. Yes, it's doable .... kinda. Poorly doable, is what I'd say. And it's not that the rod is necessarily "flimsy", although it may feel like that. Some (not all) rods that flex the tip easily are very strong, but still not suited to bottom contact. It's the difference in the strength of a rope and the strength of a steel rod. Hope this helps. jj
  21. My kind of place. jj
  22. Don't think you're alone! This place can turn your head around pretty quick. It's all for the good, though. I've learned to love it, all the new ideas and stuff. jj
  23. I thought Tackle Warehouse had better sense than that. ? jj
  24. This is starting to look like a dance where you can't keep track of who has who as a partner. Right now, I have one local DSG, and another within 75 miles that has a twinned F&S. As far as value goes, I wouldn't go into any one of them. jj
