  1. I have a Curado 70 HG with 12 lb. InvizX, and I definitely have no problem casting what you've described accurately. Last year I used my rig to cast 4" Buzz Bugs from Mister Twister, weightless. I figure the new MGL will cast quite a bit better than my old 70. I use a M/MF rod rated 1/4-5/8. How far you want to cast ...... well, that's up in the air. I never measured distance with weightless plastics, and they don't go super far. They go far enough, though. ? jj
  2. Gonna try this? jj
  3. The Mojo is made in Fresnillo, Mexico, not overseas. jj
  4. Although I chose a MH/F like so many others here, it's surprising to me that there aren't more people using moderate action instead of a fast action, and going up one power. IOW, using a MH/M instead of a M/F, or using a H/M instead of a MH/F. I had thought that there might be more disparity. ? jj
  5. It's just like Santa going all over the world in just one night. Same thing. ? jj
  6. Good luck. I tried it 2 years ago, and couldn't re-learn my coordination. I tried it specifically to put my heavier rods on my power side, which to me is the big advantage (I'm right-handed). On the other hand, I know 2 fishermen (half my age) who do it quite successfully, although I suspect one of them is either ambidextrous or almost ambidextrous. Both are boatmen; I'm a shorecaster. I guess it's just an age-and-habit thing with me, though. Hope you have better luck! jj
  7. Years ago: Medium power was medium action. Moderate action was moderate speed. Braided line was nylon, and so was monofilament. Rods were "poles". Plastic worms were rubber worms. Worm hooks were hooks you put a nightcrawler on. What we call float n' fly was jig-n-bobber. Flukes were in the ocean. And finally ; A Bass Master sang in a barbershop quartet. ? jj
  8. This is DEFINITELY not in many bass fishermen's playbook! Amen! Many bass will hit a lure the instant it hits the water ...... and soooooo many fishermen don't feel it. As a shorecaster trying for maximum distance, I'm probably guilty of this more often than many others. Thank you. jj
  9. Use 4" size here: https://www.cabletiesandmore.com/colored-nylon-zip-ties Works fine for me. jj
  10. Totally off-topic: One of my fishing buddies had his grandchildren visit this last summer. The boy is 5, the girl is 8. As kids are wont to do, the two got into an argument about something. The girl said to her brother, "You're stupid!". The boy replied, "Yeah? Well, You're a googan!" I knew exactly where he got that. ?? jj
  11. I love what Hank Parker said about gear ratio; I myself do NOT like fast reels. However ..... a smaller spool reel with heavier line will empty itself on a long cast, leaving you with an IPT so low that you can't control the lure or set the hook effectively at the end of the cast. As far as rods go, I've always like the MH/F rods that St. Croix makes in 7'. They also make them in 6'-08", but they're just a leeeeeedle too stiff of a tip for me. The vast majority of my retrieves are steady retrieves. So the rod would be an Avid, 7' MH/F with a Lew's BB1 Pro in 6.4 gear ratio. I'd use Big Game in 12 lb test because of the reliability and versatility. If I could have two, you can be sure my choice(s) would be different. ? But that's another story for another day. ? jj
  12. #5, from lurepartsonline.com
  13. What @MN Fisher said is correct. With a reputable Stateside retailer, you know what you're getting. jj
  14. In the first place, I personally don't think it's color per se; I think it's contrast. And secondly, I think you're correct. Under low-visibility conditions, color matters less and less and noise and water displacement more and more. The problem is that one person looks at their local lake and says, "Man! That's mud!" Some one else comes up beside them from another part of the country and says, "Meh. Not bad. Let's try silver." ?? Lastly, fishermen tend to throw what works ...... or more precisely, what worked. Habits are hard to break. If they threw a shiny spinnerbait in muddy water and caught 3 bass, then shiny spinnerbaits are the thing to throw in muddy water ..... end of subject. In reality, it was (probably) the thump that caught the bass, and a darker spinnerbait with the same thump might have caught them 6 fish, not 3. You'll never convince them of that, though. And lastly, about "received wisdom". Always trust what you see, not what someone else says. Experiment with change-ups yourself, and believe what happens right in front of you. Don't be one of those creatures of habit that I mentioned; you'll never find answers that you trust, answers that are right for where you fish. Good luck! jj
  15. I use worm weights, too. But I like a lot more blade area in comparison to the weight.
  16. ^^^ This ^^^. Here, only shad and mooneye are really light in muddy water, and that's only really up-close. For everything that's out of sight (so to speak) the stimulus is either sound or water displacement. And like A-Jay said, you better be right on target. jj For water displacement, that's where the 1 ounce Dardevle comes into play. ?
  17. Down the page from that listing is this video. I have no idea whether it's bogus or not, but it doesn't appear to me to be bogus. You might find it interesting. https://www.amazon.com/vdp/fcc5c20252954d628c79f092dd915365?ref=dp_vse_rvc_0 jj
  18. I got a lot more than any of you folks! 1) My wife is healthy and happy. 2) My son is healthy and happy. 3) My daughter is healthy and happy. 4) I'm healthy and happy. Oh ....... and I got some chocolate-covered almonds and Dardevle spoons, too! I sure feel bad for all of you guys. ? jj
  19. Please do that! But do two reviews; one in spring, when you find out how well you like it, and another in fall, when you find out whether it seems to have any decent degree of reliability and longevity. I hope you realize that if it turns out to be a good investment of your time and money, that I'm going to say, "I told you so!", right? ??? Good luck! jj
  20. Somehow, I think that what catches the most for everyone is what everyone throws the most. I threw spinnerbaits and spoons the most, and that's what caught me the most fish. Squarebills (Norman Fat Boy) and #5 Mepps Aglias were third and fourth. I guess you could say that I am NOT .... I repeat am NOT .... a highly complicated fisherman. ? jj
  21. I tried that, but they got a restraining order against me! ?? Seriously .... I hope everyone has a safe and Merry Christmas. ? ?? jj
  22. True, true. But I'm not using light line. I wouldn't even consider it. The biggest advantage of casting reels is efficiency and utility with heavier lines. Even going so far as the UL casting rod I use, I spool 8 lb. Yo-Zuri Hybrid or 8 lb. Stren. Maximum is 12 lb. InvizX, and I can still cast a Rebel Teeny Wee-R and get decent accuracy and decent distance. If I were a good caster, I might get better results, but I'm not a good caster. jj
