  1. Perhaps you are correct. jj
  2. Anything you can think of in the last two years that would make it happen this way? Anything come to mind? Anything in particular? ? ? jj
  3. No, I have the Mojo Bass Glass, 7'-02", H/M. My retailer had that on sale, whereas the Legend Glass was MSRP, so it was no contest. The Legend was a nicer rod (different guides and handle) but the blank is the same per St. Croix. Since I got this for a do-all Heavy power rod, I could pass on the niceties. And I'm glad I did. This rod is a monster for versatility, ...... just not light-lure versatility. ? jj
  4. .... only when you want to not break it. ? ? Seriously ...... carry a dowel, wrap 5-6 times and pull. It breaks easier than the test makes it sound because the knot strength of braid is low. jj
  5. Your best bet would be to call St. Croix and ask them questions. The Legend series is somewhat more specialized than lower tier rods, and they understand the nature of the Legend rods quite well. Much better than advertising can ever tell you. One piece of advice: do NOT talk with the first person who answers the phone. St. Croix uses people to filter out simple questions and general-use questions. Don't be rude, but ask to speak to someone who knows the blanks in-depth. Every time I've done that, I've gotten great (and very accurate) information. I have two squarebill rods, for two different size lures. For big honkers (KVD Magnums) I use a H/M glass rod form St. Croix, loaded with 50 lb. braid. It does the trick quite nicely, but only because really big squarebills have a lot of resistance. My other squarebill rod is a custom M/MF graphite rod, rated 1/4 to 5/8. I would never use a 'glass rod for low-resistance lures that light, and that's coming form a guy that likes glass. Even with braid, the slow retrieves would lack "feel", although the fast ones might be OK. Glass is great, and I love it. But just like diesels, ya gotta use'm where they fit best. jj
  6. Okay. I think I've got it now. "I've got all the money I could ever want." ........ J. Bezos "I don't care about fishing. I just want people to like me." ........ M. Iaconelli "This is just a side job. I'm actually into kite surfing." .......... E. Musk "We are here to uphold traditional American values." ........ University of California, Berkeley "Sure, I'll tell you where the hot spots are!" ........ Bill Dance
  7. "We don't do that here. It's illegal." ...... Members of Congress. "Don't worry. Your jobs will be safe after the merger." ........... Johnny Morris "Algorithm? What algorithm?" ......... M. Zuckerberg I am so, so sorry! The title was "quotes you'll never hear", not "lies you'll always hear". I got it wrong. ? ? ? jj
  8. The most important thing I've learned on Bass Resource is that I'm not the craziest person in the world. Close to it, maybe, but not the craziest. ? ? ? Oh ......... and I may have picked up a few tips about bass fishing, too. ? ? ? jj
  9. Everyone talks about blades. Blades are important, I'll give you that. But only part of the time. 1) I occasionally get fish on a spinnerbait that are hooked in the lower jaw from the outside. They were hooked as they went after the blades, not the skirt. 2) I also get fish hooked in the roof of the mouth. They were going after the skirt, not the blades. In scenario #1, the blades were generally flashy, including some 1/2 oz. Super Roostertails that I had. (They had silver plated blades.) In scenario #2, there was no pattern to the blades. If I could, I'd rather avoid scenario #1. I've also noticed some homemade spinnerbaits that had black chrome (black nickel) blades. What's up with that? jj
  10. I quit drinking (alcohol). I replaced it with coffee. I understand COMPLETELY. ? JJ
  11. These are like toenail fungus ..... they kinda grow on ya. Seriously ............. @HaydenS was right. These are awesome! jj
  12. Look at it the other way; the main benefit of braid is that it's high test per diameter. As far as dig-in or backlash (the cause of one could be different from the other) I don't use any braid on a baitcaster less than .011" diameter. I tried it, and I saw what happened. I saw other people try it, and I saw what happened to them. If it somehow doesn't happen to you, you're very lucky. jj
  13. Watch out! There are some places where you'd post that and people will take it seriously! ? jj
  14. Hayden, your computer skills are so far ahead of my pitiful ones that it just ain't funny! ? jj
  15. Bagley's BangOLure (4--5") is about the same thing, and stays up very well. Some guys around here like a Smithwick stick lure that seems about the same (Rogue?) but I've never used it. jj
  16. Freshwater Light Power is traditionally 1/8-3/8 oz. Medium is traditionally 1/4 to 5/8 oz, possibly 1/4-3/4 oz., depending on the manufacturer. jj
  17. Shimano Curado 70xg. Most versatile reel I own. Curado 200ipg is close behind. jj
  18. Then you can expect there to be a learning curve. As @Chris091 suggested, it may be necessary to shorten your leader. jj
  19. I tried to use a leader knot that rolled into the spool. Not good. Not good at all. At the time, I had a Fuego CT100, and I used the Crazy Alberto knot. I may be old and cantankerous, but if reality hits me upside the head with a 2x4 hard enough, I can learn. I now use straight fluoro; InvizX in 12 or 15 lb. test. No more problems. ? jj
  20. From the way you worded your post, are we to assume that you're talking about casting reels only? jj
  21. I had something similar happen to me about 2 years ago. I wouldn't cross the street to spit on Daiwa"s factory personnel. The Tackle Trap down in Boaz, Alabama does Daiwa warranty work, and they're far, far better than the factory. jj
  22. If you do this for distance, @gunsinger, please get back to us as to how well it works and whether you have any problems. I, for one, would like to know. ? jj
  23. Better linearity (and therefore performance) when slow rolling on the bottom. jj
  24. I'm reading a horror novel in Braille right now. Something bad is about to happen. I can feel it. jj
