  1. Local retailer will get Tatula 150 and 200 models in b4 Christmas. We'll see then. Local word of mouth has it that the Cardiff is very reliable but doesn't cast very far. This was from catfishermen, though. If they could sit on one side of the river and hit the other bank, they'd say that was almost good enough. ? jj
  2. Do a search for daiwa baitcasters engaging of the cast. I think you'll find lots of info. jj
  3. ^^^^^ Listen to this man, and save $$$ ^^^^^^ For a spinning rod, go to a big box store and test the rods to see which ones feel right for you. Look for a Med/Fast first, the go from there. jj
  4. If I can get the 200 size for 10 bucks more, I doubt I'd consider the 100 size. Thnx anyway. jj
  5. I have a modified Cabela's Tourney Trail MH/MF, that I've had forever. 7' long, 3/8-1 oz. Ideal for spinnerbaits. jj
  6. A couple months ago, I would have agreed. But I stripped the gears in one and need to send it in. Don't want to take a chance on another one going south. Honestly, I had not thought of that. I'll chk into it. There's another one that I hadn't considered, mostly because I didn't know about the fleabay price. I'll chk into this one, too. Oh, yeah. How well I know! My list is already long. That's one reason to keep the price down. Thank you, all of you. Now I've got some things to look into. ? jj
  7. Friend of mine passed away. Had a massive collection of 5/8 oz. spinnerbaits, single and tandem blades. (He poured them himself.) Some are used, some new. I can get these cheap. They weigh right at 1 oz total, and the single Colorado ones pull like a freight train. I have 2 rods that I could use with these, but I'm gonna need a new reel. What's a good, durable, RELIABLE reel for fishing with these? I'd like to stay reasonably close to the $100 mark if I could. Thnx. jj
  8. What .... no spinnerbait? Jimmy Houston would be ashamed of you! jj
  9. Man oh man, do I understand that! ?? jj
  10. The only 2-pc. casting rods with which I have any experience other than the Mojo rod are Berkley Heritage and Cabela rods. I would not recommend the Heritage, and the Cabela's rods are not the same anymore. I won't recommend something I don't know and haven't used, even as a short test of someone else's rods. That being said ..... if I had to gamble sight unseen, I might gamble on that Fenwick HMG travel rod. One other thing I might mention: theft. Out of sight, out of mind. Maybe that applies to you, and maybe it doesn't. Hope you find the rod you like. ? jj
  11. 1) I fish dirty water. 2) I fish jerkbaits shallow. 3) I "snap" my jerkbaits, kinda like walking the dog, more than any other technique. I think it makes them more noticeable to the fish. 4) I use jerkbaits in spring and fall, but not the heat of summer. I use other stuff for summer. 5) Bomber Long A lures (13A, 14A and 15A) get me more than all my Rapala jerkbaits put together. Some people look at the Long A as "old fashioned", but it sure gets the job done for me! As in everything though .... YMMV. ? jj
  12. I have the Mojo Bass 7'1" MH/F (3/8-1 oz.). Best spinnerbait rod I've ever had, and I've got it in 2-pc. It has (just barely) enough give for deep divers, and it's fine on wake baits (what isn't?). It definitely is fast action, so you'll have to decide whether it'll work for you or not. jj
  13. Sounds like a certain someone should have gotten a flu shot! jj
  14. Exactly. I found this out the hard way. (I had to laugh when I heard a "young" guy tell us old geezers that his reel was better than any we had because his had 20 lb. of drag, and none of ours went over 15 lb.) Now pike or musky .... well, they can be a little different. ? jj
  15. You say one is ML/M (Moderate). The other one must be Medium/Mod from your description. At least that's what I would guess. If that's the case, then 12 lb. on the M/M and 10 lb. on the ML/M would be just about perfect for the way I set them up and use them. Good rods! (P.S. I'm jealous! ???) jj
  16. Try some Trufuel in 2-stroke formulation. I'd bet your troubles will be gone. jj
  17. My temps are pretty much like yours. Of the last 16 bass I caught, 12 of them were on a 1/2 oz. double Colorado spinnerbait. The rest were #5 Mepps Aglias or some crankbait I forget right now. All were caught in less than 8 feet of water, most in less than 5 feet. All were caught within 25 feet of the bank. They're feeding. And they're feeding in water that warms from the sun. Bank position is great right now. Of course, a little colder and they will migrate to deeper water and bank fishing will be zip, zero, nada. So ring the dinner bell (whichever forage fish are primary in your waters) and get'em while you can! Good luck! jj
  18. Where I fish, Fall seems to be the time when it's most obvious: "Big lure, big fish. Bigger lure, bigger fish." I agree that there are exceptions, but they are few and far between. jj
  19. Yup. Everyone else (almost) comes home, and I go fishing. Storms are a gift to fishermen, especially shorecasters. jj
  20. Yeah, I know. Just had to tease ya anyway. Good luck in the years ahead! jj
  21. ..... and Saturday, and Sunday, and ..... ? Congrats! jj
  22. EWG is great for some things, and highly overrated for others. If I just knew which hook is best for which lure before I bought them, I'd really be money ahead! jj
  23. I think I figured out why they hit too far back: THE HOOK'S TOO SMALL! Thanks, (as always), @Catt jj
  24. I tried this. Know what I got? No tail action, that's what I got. I have to go a certain speed to get the tail to activate. And that's with light weights or heavy weights. Of course, this might be the property of these particular swimbaits, too. What's your opinion as to the boot tail that can be retrieved SLOWEST and still have good action? I mean, of the bigger ones, like 4" or more? jj
  25. I can do these things. Thanks! jj
