  1. Uh oh. Hootie is involved in this conversation now. This will undoubtedly end with him purchasing yet another Mojo Bass.
  2. Could very well be the person in customer service. I stopped by right after fishing for the day knowing I had caused the issue and knowing that I obviously didn't have a receipt. The lady went out of her way to help me out. BPS is about 15 minutes from my house so it is an easy choice for quick items, but like you, TW gets a lot more of my money. Just to add to your post MDBowHunter, they do seem obsessed with scams.
  3. I own both and broke a Carbonlite over the weekend (my fault). I walked into Bass Pro and they gave me a replacement rod no charge, so I would have to challenge the customer service sucks quote. I prefer the Mojo slightly but I doubt the Carbonlite would disappoint you.
  4. I'm headed to Orlando in two weeks already have a Toho trip booked but I am also looking to hit some of the local spots. Underhill and Ivanhoe are two of the local small lakes I'm looking at.
  5. Week that's the joy of living in Missouri, over about six pounds are fairly elusive. That's my yearly PB and it should be upped here in the next month or so. I'll reset it again in 2017......unless I get something too good not to brag about.
  6. My wife did the same thing. This one was 3.5 pounds. The very next cast, she caught his baby sister who was 3.25 pounds. Needless to say, she's a big fan.
  7. Tell him good catch.
  8. I tried to edit but couldn't so I need to clarify. I was swimming it over the grass, but still allowed for the occasional pause to allow it to drop, which is when they hit. I never let it drop into the grass and was putting a lot more time into the swim portion than I ever have before. When I tried my normal Ned methods, they were not working. The fish wouldn't touch any other baits but for some reason, but wanted a more aggressive Ned presentation with more movement.
  9. You can. Matter of fact, I can't think of a better bait to teach people how to concentrate more on subtle movements than the "hit", but it is a learning process and like any bait, presentation is the key. For example, yesterday I just had a couple of hours to spend and was getting nothing. If I don't get hit in an area, before I leave it, I toss the Ned as a last resort. I was getting nothing on the Ned until I changed my technique to swim it over grass.....something I'd never done with the Ned. I got five LMB in the last twenty minutes of my day. None of them nailed the bait. It was all very subtle line movements. If I had the skill, I would love to make a video where the line is enhanced to show just how little line movement is sometimes involved. It will sharpen your skills overall because you will start to react to things you wouldn't have before with other baits too.
  10. I have found that the retrieve that is most successful, may change day to day or even hour to hour. Same with when you start your retrieve. I also agree with your size assessment. I have had plenty under a pound hit the 130. Isn't it fun when they get in that one last tail shake while you are removing the hook and give you a reminder that those trebles are sharp? Maybe it's the length and heft of the bait, but I've been poked more with this particular lure while removing hooks than all others combined.
  11. I RECOMMEND.... Name of Lure: Whopper PlopperColor: LoonConditions To Use(weather, water clarity, temperature, time of day, etc): I've used this lure in bright sunlight with clear water and done well. I've used it on cloudy days and done well. Notes(does the lure require certain test or type of line?): I use the 90 if the bite is finicky. Otherwise, anything from a half pound up will hit the 130. The 130 however is a heavy lure. You won't be tossing it with your ML. Why Do You Recommend: Incredibly easy to fish. I always catch fish with it even when the local "experts" tell me the top water bite is dead because of the conditions. Very versatile. Any Specific Techniques w/ the Lure?: You can burn it. I like to cast it, let the area settle and then start working the lure. Many times, I treat it like a popper which it excels at. Couple of pops, wait, pop it again and watch it disappear.
  12. My company is giving us one Friday off each month in the summer and today was mine. Went to a local department of conservation area and rented a Jon boat. I had my day all planned out but the fish were not cooperating at all. After two hours, I grabbed my wife's Mojo Bass which I always have set up with a Ned rig. I just wanted something, but ended up getting my biggest fish of the day.....3 ounces shy of the four pounder I told the wife I was hunting today. The fishing Gods smiled and I ended up with fourteen more bass, a crappie, a bluegill and a two pound catfish. Sunny as can be but I love throwing top water and the Whopper Plopper got six of them. Two on a jig, one on a frog (three misses on a frog too. Need some practice) and the rest on the Ned rig.
  13. I can add to those who have done it. My wife hasn't mastered a baitcaster yet, so she uses my M/F BPS Carbonlite and a Stradic Ci4 3000 when she wants to do something different than the finesse fishing she loves. I run 10 pound flouro on it and we have no issues. Matter of fact, the only lure that is "hers" is a 90 in loon. The 130, that would be a different story.
  14. Buy a Mojo. I like my Carbonlite, but love my wife's Mojo. My wife thinks the Carbonlite feels "dead" in comparison. To be fair, her Mojo is ML XF and my Carbonlite is MF, but it is still a big difference between the two. I would hurry up and buy one quickly though before Hootie snatches them all up.
  15. Didn't get a pic, but I caught about a 6" bluegill yesterday on 130 whopper plopper. Good year so far for overachievers.
  16. Good job. Looks like the camping trip paid off. This is just the start.
  17. I fish Lew's baitcasters and Shimano spinning reels. My wife has a. Pflueger Supreme XT and my daughter has a President. In your price range, I'd take a serious look at the President. It may not be as refined as the Supreme XT or my Shimanos, but it will get the job done and put a smile on your face.
  18. The boss won't put hers down.....but she did let me take it out this morning and I liked it a lot.
  19. Smallieseeker gave some great advice and I would agree 100% with the trying too hard assessment. Relax and let the rod and reel work with you. When you try to launch it, many times you will 1. Create a tremendous backlash, and 2. Disappoint yourself with the distance. This time of the year when the sun starts beating down, I find myself spending the last half hour of the day working on my accuracy and setting the bait down softly and precisely. This forces me to slow it down and go back to basics. The wrist starts doing its thing like it's supposed to, the rod becomes an integral part of the cast, and my confidence in my ability soars. I have two of the same MH rod you have and it will do the job for you. Just get your line issues worked out. I use much heavier braid myself for frogs.
  20. 60% of the time it works every time.
  21. Now you are going to have people debating whether a bite from a bass feels more like tapping a line with a plastic pen or a wooden pencil. Lol
  22. My wife is new to fishing this year. She has been out with me a few times fishing with one of my old BPS Bionic Blade rods. I bought her a MLXF St. Croix Mojo for her birthday and a Pflueger Supreme XT. She fished it tonight for the first time with a 1/20 oz Ned rig and caught six bass in the first thirty minutes. She said the reason she was catching them is because she was able to feel every little change in the movement of the bait and when she did, she would just set the hook. I was fishing with a MF BPS Carbonlite and relying strictly on watching line movement. i would say her rod was a significant improvement over anything else she had ever fished with and it put more fish in her hands. She wouldn't go back.
  23. I have one as well. I mostly used it in later winter on a heavy rod to toss it out and sort of map some local ponds. I have a local wildlife area that I fish and the rent Jon boats. I do the same thing as Landis Carrier. I made up a rig with a clamp on one end of some 550 cord that attaches to the boat, and an old metal stringer piece on the other end that attaches to the Deeper. Works very well. We did find that it works better with android better then with Apple, but I think they may have rectified those software issues. The app gives you lots of other off-line options as well such as a mall, history, and some other features. For one, I think you were the couple hundred dollars. My other choice would be guessing, or taking a whole lot of time to figure out each little body of water
  24. I think Darren nailed it. My primary spinning rod is a M fast Carbonlite. My wife's is a MLXF Mojo. Very similar feel between the two in my hands with the big difference being smaller fish (pound and under) are a bit more exciting on the ML Mojo.
  25. Sometimes we push the limits a bit.
