  1. How much was Dick's listing the new Stradic's for?
  2. I like throwing chug bugs and Pop-Rs, they are my confidence baits. I recently purchased 2 St. Croix Avids (go Reeds!). I saw in a St. Croix catalog that they recommend topwaters for their LTBC68MXF rod. I purchased both an AS66MF and AS68MXF. Which of these rods would you recommend to use topwater lures? Thanks.
  3. I got my two rods as well! I have a question. I saw in the St. Croix catalog that they recommend topwaters for their LTBC68MXF rod. I purchased both an AS66MF and AS68MXF. Which of these rods would you recommend to use topwater lures.
  4. Okay, I am anxiously awaiting these 2 rods. I need some help with using the right rod for the right application: AS66MF- cranks, topwaters, spinnerbaits, jerkbaits, spoons, spinners AS68MXF - T/C rig worms, jigs, flukes, tubes, frogs, drop shotting, finessing Does the above look right?
  5. Those rods should be coming soon. Shipping says 3-8 business days!
  6. Wow. I was perusing Reeds and the rods I ordered yesterday are no longer on sale. Glad the bait monkey took over yesterday and pushed the buy button when it had a chance.
  7. I did. The AS66MF and AS68MXF. Those 2 should cover all my needs. Thanks for all your help guys.
  8. Well, I just picked up the AS66MF and AS68MXF based on the other thread. Hopefully, this should cover all my fishing needs at this point.
  9. Between 1/4 to 1/2 oz for jigs. I fish mainly cranks and plastics. The bait monkey is telling me that not one rod will solve all my needs.
  10. Soft? Please help explain to me, OB1. Thanks.
  11. What would you guys recommend for jigs and plastics? Also, any opinions on the AS66MLF (Medium Light Power)?
  12. Thanks. Also, I have to give props to RW. I have read his post about power versus action numerous times. These forums are great (except that I want to constantly want to upgrade my equipment and spend money).
  13. I was looking at several avids in the 6-7 foot range for general purpose bass fishing. Do you guys recommend the fast or the extra fast action? I am debating which would be better and my gut tells me to get an extra fast.
  14. Any more recs? I am going to be in Miami in about a week. I did a search on this forum and saw some guys fish in the Cutler Bay vicinity. Can anyone enlighten me to the peacock fishing in that area? Also, what lures work with peacock bass? Thanks.
  15. HappyHooker, why would a crankbait work when the water is cold? I could see a suspending jerkbait but aren't the fish slowing down and reluctant to chase a crank? I am pretty much hanging it up. However, I got a couple of trips to Florida to get my fix in the next month!
  16. Thanks for the tips. It may also be the lake (cross creek) that i have been targeting. Everytime I go there, the anglers I meet on the docks say they get skunked too. I should try somewhere else. If I go back, where would the bait fish be hiding out at this point of season? I tried fishing all points and steep drop offs but no luck. I went steelie fishing for the first time. Wow, what an experience. I didn't catch anything but seeing all those large fish was quite a sight. The streams are shallow and fished a couple of spots where the steelhead came right up to my toes. They were so spooked from all the lures being thrown at them. I decided that catching the fish where they were trapped wasn't sport and moved back to the deeper parts of the creeks. The one thing I did learn was that all this skunk smell on me is making me wonder if I should bathe myself in tomato sauce to get this stench off of me.
  17. Well, maybe the catalog is a good sign. Heck, all those big winners from the casino should spend their money on some new fishing gear. I'll keep you posted on any BPS sign sightings. Anyone bass fishing lately. I got skunked the last 2 times I went out on Cross Creek lake. Fish seem to have lockjaw. I am probably going to start stream fishing for trout.
  18. HPBB, I hate to burst your bubble but BassPro's website pulled Pittsburgh off its future store locations months ago. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CFPage?appID=94&storeId=10151&catalogId=10001&langId=-1 The store was originally slated to open in 2007-08 but it is on delay (possibly not coming at all anymore). I drive past the Racetrack Road site daily. There is a sign up for upcoming stores but BPS is not on it. If you are in the area, try Gander Mountain in Washington. It's hit or miss but I have walked out with some great deals. I bet the catalog was designed prior to the website change. I haven't been to Cabelas in about 6 months. I find that place overrated. The fishing department seems to be getting stocked with less and less stuff. Plus the prices are much more expensive than Gander Mt or Sportsman Warehouse. The bargain bin at Cabelas could have some decent finds but you have to dig through all the junk to find a diamond in the rough. If I see a BPS sign go up on Racetrack Road, I'll keep you guys informed. Unfortunately, that bait monkey will be waiting a long time before BPS comes to town.
  19. Those are some nice spinners. How much do they weigh?
  20. I have a buddy that is a fanatic of inline spinners for bass. I think of them as old school and have some Mepps, Rooster tails, CP Swing, and Joe's flies that I use for trout fishing. I was thinking of adding some larger versions to my bass tackle box. What do you guys use for bass (maker, size and color)?
  21. SW Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh area. The weather has been unusually warm around here. It's going to be 86 degrees this weekend and then a cold front moves in sometime mid next week. Catt & WRB, thanks for sharing your knowledge. It's greatly appreciated. Correct, from Pittsburgh area. The lake I am fishing is small and I only found one small tackle shop in the area that had a topo map. The lake is Cross Creek Lake.
  22. I am learning to read topo maps and need some help. I am confused to what areas I should be targeting for bass. I have read to hit where there are steep drops, points, and roadbeds. I am looking for tips because all the information seems overwhelming and I don't know where to begin. My basic question is if you were hitting a lake for the first time and saw a topo map, what area would you gravitate to first, second, and third?
  23. Glenn2, where do you fish for peacocks? Anyone try these locations: http://flyfisherman.com/florida/wjpeacockbass/index2.html Last time I was in Miami, I tried the Maceo Park docks, the canal behind Falls shopping center, Baptist Hospital lake, and the intersection of SW 8th and SW 94th. I had luck at Maceo and Baptist, caught some LM and Tilapia. No peacocks but did see some in the canals that followed my lures but wouldn't bite. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
  24. I would like to try and catch some peacock bass in Miami. Any recommendations on locations and what lures to use?
  25. So, who's been out lately. I went out last weekend to Cross Creek and got skunked. Probably heading out again this weekend or trying the creeks for some smallies. Also, where's Yellow Creek? I have heard it talked about on this thread. FishingPunk, you fish Peters Lake and Yellow Creek. I assume Yellow Creek is somewhere in Washington Co.
