  1. What about the Revo SX-HS over the SX? I am new to baitcasters but I assume either reel would be great for crankbaits. Maybe a little too fast for some plastics?
  2. This has been a very good discussion. My neighbor recently told me that his buddy caught a hawg in the pond by my house about 15 years ago that was 5 oz shy of the PA state record. He got that hawg mounted. When I heard that, I was disappointed but I am a catch and release guy. The decision comes down to your personal opinion what to do. When I used to saltwater fish when I was younger, I kept more of my catch for eating. Since I picked up freshwater fishing, I have been a C&R guy and prefer to return the fish to nature. However, it's hard to argue against keeping a fish if you consider eating any fish as well. Just my .02.
  3. Try these for weedless wacky worming: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10151&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&partNumber=58035&hvarTarget=search&cmCat=SearchResults
  4. What colors do you guys use for certain conditions? Also, what is your preferred brand of spinner baits. I use Terminators right now that are either white/ black for normal conditions and white / chartreuse for slightly stained. I am thinking of expanding this and deciding what else to get.
  5. Just curious. Mine is either Rattlin. Rapala / Rat L Trap
  6. That's what I thought. I figured I blew my chance when they saw me. I was surprised when they did not dart away though.
  7. I thought that but what left me confused is that the spillway was clear during one part of the day but clear the other part. I fished both morning and evening and the wind was blowing in the same direction.
  8. Paul, I actually did what you recommended prior to my posting here. I cast well beyond them and the reeled back slowly and killed it. I let the bait sit there 5-10 minutes but still had not hits. I actually found them while shore fishing with a Pop-R on the surface. I fished a Pop-R, Hula Popper, and Chug Bug near them but no reaction strikes that I was hoping for. This is why I am perplexed. They were acting more like suspended bass in shallow water. No interest in anything I threw their way. I am surprised because they have been camping out by the spillway the last 2 mornings I fished that lake.
  9. Over the past 2 days, I spotted 2-3 pretty decent hanging out right by a spillway in 2-3 feet of water. I dropped tubes, worms, flukes, lizards in front of them and couldn't get a strike. I literally hit on the head with several of my plastics but still no takers. I bounced it around them trying to annoy them into a strike and still no hits. Any advice? The bass look like 4-5 lbs and just hover in place right near a spillway wall.
  10. I was fishing a local little lake (about 2 acres) the past couple of days and noticed that the Southwestern corner of the lake was clear in the mornings but full of debris (i.e. thin film on top of water, lake weed, etc) in the evenings. There's a fountain in the middle of the lake but I don't understand why one part of the lake is worse at a certain part of the day. Can anyone shed some light? Thanks.
  11. I was catching up on some old BASS Master reading and saw last month's issue had a nice little write up on Shenango Lake. I have never fished it but the article said it had a lot of nice structure.
  12. I have fished and caught a lot of largemouth at the lake in front of Baptist Hospital before. Has anyone ever caught peacock bass from that lake?
  13. Quiet out there. Anyone fishing? I drove by High Point Lake today but the weather was horrible. Lots of wind and waves on the lake.
  14. I am going to be in Miami too later this month. Where are good locations to fish for peacock bass from shore?
  15. Where's the love for the Rebel Pop-R? Can't I get a second that?
  16. Can you take a canoe out at ten mile creek park or do you need a bigger boat to get around?
  17. Okay, how about 1 hour from Pittsburgh? What's the best place to catch bass?
  18. Lake or river is fine. I was looking for everyone's opinions in the area. I wanted to keep it close given the price of gas these days.
  19. I saw a similar thread started up for another state so let me ask the question here. What's the best bass lake in SW PA? (i say 2 hour drive from Pittsburgh to keep distance down).
  20. RW, thanks. I figured as much. My son likes chucking crankbaits so the rod should be fine for him. I'm curious how sensitive these rods are. I think its built on IM6 or IM7 graphite.
  21. I just got one when I purchased a Shimano Stradic from Dick's Sporting Goods. It came free with any reel purchase over $50. Anyone know who makes these rods and if they are any good? It's a 6'6' Medium rated rod (I assume both power and action). I was just planning on letting my son use it.
  22. Hey, the baitmonkey found a nice little surprise today. I forgot that I got a coupon in the mail from Dick's for a free Field and Stream IM6 fishing rod with any reel purchase. I brought my receipt in and got a new rod with my Stradic too. 20% off plus a rod that my kid's could use or I can beat up is not too shabby.
  23. The Dick's in Robinson has a pretty decent selection of fishing gear. The store itself is huge and their fishing section is 3x bigger than most other Dick's stores. I like this coupon because every year I make a big purchase with it. Last year, I got them to price match a new 30# trolling motor and then used the 20% coupon. I ended paying around $70 for a new trolling motor. If you can find a clearance item, this 20% coupon usually makes it an irresistable deal. At least, that's what the bait monkey keeps telling me. Thankfully, this year, I had a nice $100 gift card to spend so I didn't shell too much out for my new reel.
  24. You can definitely use the coupon at a store location. The circulars were in the local Sunday paper. I used mine at a local Dick's and had no issues. I see you can also use it online as well. I provided a link because Dick's puts their circular online. Check your Sunday paper first for the circular. Ooops, I just saw that I typed Pflueger Presidents. I meant Supreme. Sorry for any confusion, I corrected it now.
  25. In case any of you guys missed it in this week's Sunday paper, Dick's Sporting Goods has a 20% off coupon for both apparel and any one item. I picked up a new Shimano Stradic FI 2500 for $127.99 and a paper of breathable waterproof pants for $14.99. http://dickssportinggoods.shoplocal.com/DSG/default.aspx?action=browsepageflash&...
