I looked at this combo and it seems pretty nice.if it was me buying I would get the Lews lfs speed spool only because I prefer an aluminum frame.you could get that and this rod separate and pay 130...50$ for the reel and I have seen these rods for 80$.the lfs usually retails for 99 but you can catch a sale you can get it for less.
Dobyns fury 703 good balanced quality rod and it would be great at the techniches you are using.i have one paired with a Lews tournament pro and love it.they are 100$ . I bought mine from American legacy fishing sign up for their newsletter and take another 25 dollars off.
I have a lot of ponds with bluegill where I live so maybe I will get lucky.i will try it on both casting and my spinning reels to see if one casts better then the other.
I read that in some reviews of the hook getting caught in the back.i was thinking of putting a kvd short shank hook in the back thinking that might help and if I go with a bit smaller size maybe it would help with it helicopting.
I will Change to better hooks for sure.
I just purchased from academy sports a jointed sunfish swimbait in bluegill.it only cost 5.99 and I was wondering if anyone has used this exact one.the reviews are positive so I thought I would try it out in the summer,I'm curious about this explosion of swimbait craze going on now,and wondering if they are worth it.
Check out *** they have what's called a spin jig.you can swap out different colored jigs that attach to the wire and blades its a great concept, and you can take the wire off and use just the jig it's like two different baits in one.i bought some last summer to try out. And I will be buying some more.
Happy new year to all my fellow fishermen.had a good new yrs eve getting in some trout fishing with my 2 boys.they caught a brown and a rainbow.great way to end the yr,first item to do on the new yr is renew our licenses.happy new yr.may your fish be big,the size of a pig, on a top water frog ,
or on a jig???
I got into baitcasters last yr after using spinning reels my whole life.i got a Lews and I love it.i. Just picked Up a Daiwa tatula ct and I am very impressed with it both reels have aluminum frames very smooth .the Lews has magnetic and centrifical brakes the Daiwa has magnetic .i would recommend the ct you can get them for a 100 or less if you look around or wait for a sale.the tatula ct is effortless to cast and the brakes are very good in helping to eliminate backlashes (professional overrun).watch some vids on how to setup a baitcaster with the tension knob and brakes, that helped me quite a bit .i still use my spinning rod but I fish mainly with my baitcasters .
I need to get some new braid,I have only used p/p braid and I am considering sunline fx2 dark green frogging &flipping braid since I will be using it for frogging and jigs.anyone have any reviews on this braid.i also have read good things. About vicious no faid braid but it's pretty expensive 150 yd spool 40$
I have the 703 casting rod, I use it for my spinnerbaits rattle traps, senkos and some light top water and 1/4 oz jigs .i have been very happy with it .i also just picked up the 735c for holly body frogs and 1/2 oz jigs.you can really feel the blades on spinnerbaits with the 703 .good backbone very well balanced .great 100 dollar rod.
I picked up the Daiwa tatula ct for $89 on sportsmansoutfitters.it does palm better then the original. The difference between the ct and ct type r is the type r has 2 corrosion resistant bearings that's the main difference.type r has more red in the frame .the spool is supposed to be a bit lighter ,but that won't really won't affect performance in my opinion.all other specs are the same gear ration ,line capacity handle.thats why I bought the regular ct it's a great buy.hope this helps good luck.
