  1. The pic on the back gives it away, (I think). The original had two flat surfaces between the two sections of the body, it looks like the new one has a taper to the rear section that prevents weeds from getting hung up on it.
  2. Thanks for the tip! I'll have to give it a try.
  3. Would you say that heat shrink is any better than o rings?
  4. X2 on the grub.
  5. I also was dissapointed with the perfomance of a tail I cut off of a swimbait, It wasn't making very much noise. One other thing I noticed was that the angle of the tail on most swimbaits is a lot greater than the angle on the real tail. The tail on the Teckel is at 90 degrees if not less, while the tail on the swimbait you posted looks closer to 120 degrees. I just made my own out of old plastics and super glue, it is ugly but sounds good. so angle is something to look for as well as the size.
  6. Thanks for your input guys. I talked to the owner and it sounds like he is willing to let me have the moter since he never uses it. One more question, what is a resonable price for a 30-35 pound thrust trolling motor? (Bow mount with foot pedal)
  7. Welcome from a fellow (near) Grand Rapidser!
  8. Hi guys, I just got a tracker 1232, and would like to outfit it for small lakes and ponds. My first question is will a small outboard be worth the extra cost and hastle that would be avoided by sticking to electric only power. Ideally I would like to have a bow mount trolling motor and a small outbord on the back. 6 hp is the max recommended on the safety sticker. But, I could also just go with a larger transom mounted trolling motor and not have to deal with gas. This is my first boat, so I dont really know what to look for in a used motor, or what a good price is. I know a guy who has a 3.6 hp mercury just sitting in a shed (model # 6168187), but I dont know if it runs or what its condition is. (I havent gotten a chance to talk to the owner yet) What would be a reasonable price for this motor, and would it be a good fit for my little boat? Any other advice on my first boat would also be appreciated. Thanks, Ethan.
  9. Didn't have any problems with it tonight, I'm guessing that it was a combination of what Scott F said and having a little to much line on the reel. Thanks for your help.
  10. I have been closing it by hand anyway, I am heading out for a short trip now, I will try that.
  11. Hmm. That is something I hadn't thought of, but I just weighed the fluke, and it falls in the weight range for the rod (6'6'' medium action) My only other thought is maybe I filled the spool too full. I left maybe a little less than an eighth of an inch of space on the spool, and did everything else correctly while spooling as far as I know. Maybe I just need to use it a bit more and figure out exactly what is happening.
  12. Hey guys, I recently spooled my new spinning reel with 20# power pro original and have been having some trouble with tangles. I was fishing with a weightless fluke by twitching it and reeling up the slack. Every once in a while when I made a cast a big tangle of line would come off the spool and I would have to pick it out carefully. I switched over to a small wakebait and with a straight steady retrieve I had no more problems (And caught quite a few fish). Is there any way to prevent tangles from happening when I am reeling up slack line?
  13. I had a beaver scare me half to death on a small lake once. I was fishing from a small rowboat and the wind had just pushed me against the shore when a large brown object came flying out of the brush behind me and landed with a loud splash. It gave me a good scare; and the best part was that the beaver kept swimming around the lake for the rest of the evening. That was really cool to watch since I had never seen a beaver before.
  14. Merry Christmas!
  15. I learned to use a baitcaster this year. I am glad I finally took the leap and bought one, I have enjoyed using it.
  16. Thanks Guys, it just didn't seem right to just throw rusty pointy objects straight into the trash. I always try to pick up line if I find it on the bank, and have collected a few lures that way.
  17. Hi guys, I was just wondering how you should dispose of old worn out tackle, I have quite a few rusty hooks and jigheads, as well as old line. how should I get rid of those types of things safely?
  18. Thanks for all of the suggestions guys. I heard somewhere that the mettle goes on sale for 30$, does this happen often? If so it seems like a no-brainer to get one of those.
  19. Ok, I will look into those. Thanks!
  20. Probably around the same as the rod, but I would be willing to go up to around 80$ if it would be worth it.
  21. Hi guys I am thinking about getting a new baitcasting setup. I searched around a little bit on the forum and the general vibe I got was to not go cheap. I have an Abu Silver Max and like it a lot, so I was thinking about getting another one of those or a black max. Also are there any good rods you would recommend in the 30-50$ range? Do you guys think that this price range would serve me well or should I save up and get something better? Thanks, Ethan.
  22. Thanks guys!
