  2. I have a few baitcasters (lews, pflueger, abu garcia, etc) but while at Bass Pro I decided to purchase one of their combos for $54 6'6 MH 6:3:1 megacast. I was a little skeptical at first because there have been mixed reviews (mostly good ones though), if you know how to set the brakes and spool correctly it works great! I've been using it as my primary set up now and have no problems with it, I've only had 1 or 2 birds nests but that was due to me forgetting to adjust everything after changing lures. Can't really tell just yet how it will hold up in the long run but I can definitely say that for $54 it is well worth the money. I'm not a pro angler or anything, I usually just fish when I get the free time so I don't want/need some real expensive stuff. So if you're on a budget and your circumstances are similar to mine as far as not fishing tournaments or all day every day then I think the BPS combo would be great for you!
  3. My fellow VB anglers, In an old post I mentioned that I was new to the area (officially moved here in early May) and was looking for some places to fish. I've found a few places that aren't too great so I'm still looking for good ponds/lakes that are bank fishing friendly, any info is much appreciated. However, while in the Kempsville area I came across a pond at Salem Woods Park and wasn't too sure if there'd be any bass due to the amount of trash in the water (such a shame that people pollute the water) but on my second cast landed a decent sized LMB! I was using a senko, watermelon w purple flakes. After spending about 30-45 min there it was the only fish I caught so I wouldn't label it a honey hole but if you live close by I encourage checking it out!
  4. I've been mostly fishing from shore this year and that has caused a lot of snags haha. Pretty sure I've lost 5 jigs, a few crankbaits, some lipless, a few hooks, some bullet weights, and a whole bunch of soft plastics haha but I'm pretty good at keeping tabs of what I lose so that I make sure to replenish my inventory before my next fishing trip.
  5. Just recently moved to VB after graduating from college. Was living in the Franklin County area so it was awesome having SML close by and tons of farm ponds every where. Anyone got some tips on the best places to fish for some bass? My apartment complex swears the lake on the property has "big fish" and "wide mouth bass" (i laughed when she said that). But I've fished it a couple times using different lures and didn't get a single bite so idk how accurate the information is. Thanks in advance!
  6. I agree with lakeannaangler, my set up is pretty similar except I use a BPS rod. Works great!
