  1. I fish out of my home state quite a lot. Over the last nine years I have never seen a Game Warden in any of the lakes I have fished. One might think that I would be tempted to forgo the inconvenience of getting a license. I'm not. Texas and Oklahoma have reciprocal agreements for us Seniors. I don't need a license to fish in Texas, but I always buy one. It's my small contribution to the DNR's budget.
  2. I've been running 10% ethanol gas in my boat for years with no problems. However, I use Startron with every fill-up.
  3. It came very close today. You boys behave yourselves.
  4. I just bought the new Patriarch. I found it on eBay for $149, shipping included. Man, that is one sweetheart of a reel.
  5. Just a note. ALL members are welcome to attend; newbies and old timers; experienced or not.
  6. Nope. We always have enough boaters with empty seats who are more than willing to share.
  7. Teaser? You want a teaser? OK, here are three. There will be a Road Trip. It will be held on a lake that might be one of the TVA chain of lakes. It will probably take place in April, May, or June. How's that for teasers?
  8. Blind SEC fans? I live in Tulsa and I am an OU/OSU fan. I'm also an LSU fan. OU won their game yesterday, but had they played either Georgia or LSU, the outcome would have been much different. OU would have had their butts kicked by either of those teams.
  9. I'm somewhat different than most folks. I have a condition called Essential Tremors, which means that my hands shake. Trying to retie a simple knot like the Palomar while on the water can be a fifteen minute ordeal for me. For that reason, most all of my rods are pre-rigged with Duolock snaps with no swivels I haven't noticed any appreciable difference in my catch ratio. I think it all boils down to personal preference, and nothing more.
  10. As a hobby. Ghoti has become a master at super-tuning reels. Be sure to read the articles he has published in our "Articles" section of this site.
  11. I would very much suggest that you go to our Fishing Articles section and start reading. There is an encyclopedia of information there.
  12. Kent turns 49 (for the umpteenth time) today. Happy Birthday, my friend!
  13. Please award your son a huge ATTABOY from his friends on BR!
  14. Change the knot you are using to the Stren knot. It has never failed me. http://angling-adventures.net/knots/knots.htm
  15. From one (now transplanted) Cajun to another, Welcome!
  16. There's a Mercury repair shop at Six Mile. Great mechanic and very honest.
  17. Pickwick Landing State Park has a few Jon boats with small outboards on them, but rental is first come, first served only. i.e. You can't reserve them ahead of time. My info is a couple of years old, however.
  18. Pfleuger Patriarch. For both spinning and baitcasting. The new Patriarch spinning reel is truly a jewel. Pfleuger has completely redesigned the reel, using magnesium, titanium, and carbon-fiber components. The reel weighs just over six ounces.
  19. Ain't it great? We have two sponsors who manufacture jigs and spinner baits. Both of them produce QUALITY products, and both of them have chosen Bass Resource to advertise their products. I, for one, would much prefer to buy from a locally owned outfit than to buy from one of the big box companies. One of the best benefits is that both companies are easily accessible. If you have an issue, good or bad, all it takes is a PM or an email, and you will get a reply from the Owner of the company. It just doesn't get any better than that.
  20. That's it! You are now addicted. It's a great addiction.
  21. Congratulations!
  22. Great report TiNuts, thanks for a very objective comparison.
  23. Thanks for the advice guys. I've decided to point her in the direction of the 20 gauge. At this point in time she simply can't afford a hand-gun. Besides, she has two Dobermans to keep her company. The dogs are sweethearts, but their bark is enough to keep all but the most drugged-out away.
  24. Tommy, I'll be fishing the Bend from the 17th thru the 21st of Oct. Staying at Fox's Lodge, Cabin 1. Drop by and say Hi if you are in the area.
