  1. Be careful about using passenger car tires on a trailer. Trailer tires have stiffer sidewalls and are designed to reduce the sway of the trailer while it is under tow.
  2. If you are looking at buying a used boat, I suggest you take a hard look at the Tracker Tournament V-18. Unfortunately Tracker quit making them for some odd reason. It has a modified deep-V hull, so handles big water very well, yet will allow you to get into very skinny water It has a huge front deck and tons of storage, plus the rod locker will handle 8 foot rods with ease. Equipped with a Merc 150hp motor, it will do 50 mph.
  3. I do a lot of online research before I buy anything off eBay. I never bid on an item, because, as said above, the serious bidding doesn't begin until the last moment. I use only the "Buy it Now" option, but I closely watch the price for shipping. What may originally seem like a good deal can easily be soured by a ridiculously high shipping price. Do your research before shopping eBay. Better deals can often be found elsewhere.
  4. Felix is right on. Under those conditions, a bass can take your bait and then spit it out, and you would never know it. Another suggestion is to watch your line. If it moves in any direction other than your line of drift, set the hook.
  5. Welcome!
  6. Interesting question, but why would anyone want to do that? That said, I can imagine a fisheries guy being interested in doing something like that in order tag the fish.
  7. Welcome Bob! There are a lot of nice folks around here. If you haven't already done so, be sure to read the articles here. There is a world of information available.
  8. Blinker Trim. It's the same thing as the column-mounted trim control I mentioned above.
  9. The Terrova doesn't need the foot pedal if it is equipped with the iPilot. No twisting required. I simply steer with the remote hung around my neck.
  10. I have a Tracker TV-18, with a Merc 150. I installed one on my boat a couple of years ago, along with the column mounted trim control. Now, I can keep both hands on the wheel at all times. The Hot Foot works exactly like a car's accelerator pedal. If your foot comes off, the boat slows to an idle, exactly as it should. I would highly recommend the Hot Foot to anyone who's boat will do over 35 mph.
  11. I'm absolutely sure that I may have understood what I thought you might have said, but I'm not sure that what you said is what I thought you may have said.
  12. If your spool tension knob does not stop your lure from free-falling, then your reel has a problem. I would suggest that you send it to Delaware Valley Tackle (DVT), one of our sponsors, for servicing.
  13. Jeff Davis Parish is adjacent to the Parish (Acadia) where I have family. I travel down there a couple of times a year. If you decide to move there, make sure that you love heat, humidity, and mosquitoes.
  14. Welcome to our forums! There are a lot of helpful folks around here. Just out of curiosity, why do you call yourself a Ragin' Cajun if you live in California? Are your roots in Louisiana?
  15. Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Florida, and Mexico.
  16. Southern bass prefer Tabasco scented lures.
  17. 1. Wake - To arouse someone from slumber. 2. Wake - A vigil held for someone who has died. 3. Wake - The wave produced at the stern of a boat as it passes. If you are on the water and see a sign that says "No Wake Zone," it could mean one or more of the following: 1. You are to be very quiet, so as not to awaken anyone. 2. No funerals are to be held in the area. 3. You must keep your boat to a speed that will generate no waves which could damage boats moored in the area. This is generally considered to be idle speed. I'll let you be the judge.
  18. Welcome
  19. I don't fish tournaments, which means that I am going fishing and would be grateful to have a non-boater with me. Since I was going fishing anyway, the only thing I would expect from my co-angler would be an assist in launching and retrieving the boat. As for tournament anglers, with the exception of entry fees, you should not expect to receive a penny from your co-angler. It's your boat, and you have elected to compete in a tournament. Co-angler or not, the cost of operating your boat is yours, and yours alone. Any contribution from the guy in the back seat should be appreciated, but not required.
  20. x2 on the screw hook. Never thought of heating the screw. Thanks for that input
  21. Welcome to our forums. Please tell us a little about yourself in the Introductions forum.
  22. I somewhat disagree with the above two responders. I have a Terrova with iPilot that has the built-in Universal transducer. My Lowrance unit connects to it via cable. As for wireless? Nope.
  23. Our tax dollars at work.
  24. In my book, doing it on your own means doing it without a guide. That means gathering all the information you can prior to getting on the water. Welcome to the forums Knuckles. I've never fished that lake, but I'm sure there are plenty of people out there willing to help.
