  1. How about immediate catch an release, let the angler use a net, all anglers have to use the same length and type of net. Marshal in every boat weighs the bass. Camera only shows live the fish being hooked and the fight. Once the bass is netted the live feed is blocked. Have a weigh in with pictures of each bass on a large screen instead of a live bass. That way there is still the suspense and party atmosphere of a weigh in, minus the actual live bass. They could even go through with all of the suspense of a hot seat, if they want to take the suspense to that level. I would recommend a 10 bass bag because I like to be different.
  2. I start with a Buzz Bait. I may switch to a popper or spook if I feel I need to slow down. If the topwater bite was good, but stops, I usually switch to a spinnerbait waked on the surface. If they don't hit the spinnerbait waked, then all I have to do is slow my retrieve to start fishing subsurface. Jitterbug on calm evenings, because it brings back so many good memories of fishing when I was young. Original floating Rapala twitched on the surface when fishing from the bank, or on small streams. Whopper Plopper and Rat, when ever I look in my box and decide that because I spent the money I going to fish them until they work.
  3. It's not like he is catching bass every cast. He had a short period of time yesterday when he caught his limit. I don't even think he has tried another color of bladed jig. Those bass might have hit almost any other color. If he kills them again today on pink, then I might be more convinced pink is the deal.
  4. I have 3 Diawa Ardito travel rods. They are excellent. I use them every time I go bass fishing.
  5. The dreaded one fish pattern. This happens to me more times than I like to admit. I get a big fish on a point, and it will be the only fish caught on a point all day. I think the difference between a great fisherman and a hack such as myself is recognizing all the multiple things that make up a pattern. Early in the morning I catch a bass on a point in 10 feet of water and determine the pattern is points in 10 feet of water. What I failed to notice was the point was made up of small chunk rock, had a slight current going parallel to the point and the point was next to a large flat that had a large number of baitfish moving from deep water to the flat along the point. An observant fisherman would have noticed these other factors and realized the bass caught on the point may have been a straggler, and the majority of the bass had already moved up on to the flat. While I continued to fish the point the bass would be feeding heavily on the flat. May be all the other points I tried didn't have current, weren't close to a flat, had large boulders, or gravel rock etc. All I noticed was the bass was on a point and the depth. A great angler would take the information given and expand it to the rest of the lake. They would go to other flats, next to deep water with long points leading up to the flat. I really savvy angler may also take it to the next level by anticipating the move back to deep water after the feeding on the flat, and come back later in the day to fish the point and see if they could intercept the bass moving back out. Where I only see one aspect of a potential pattern, A better angler may determine multiple aspects, that may help them turn a one fish day in to a bonanza. Some days the bass are completely random, and even the best angler can't capitalize on any similarity, but most days an observant angler can at least determine the depth, type of structure, what part of the lake, forage, and general presentation needed to catch multiple bass. Also, It may be better at times to try and pattern the forage, instead of the bass. Find the bait, and the bass wont be very far away.
  6. I like to think of bass fishing as my life, and everything else as a hobby.
  7. Good luck. I have been there and done that, worst 10 minuets of my life.
  8. Academy Sports H2O Square bill is well under $10 and catches bass as well as any square bill I have tried. 6th Sense crush 50, crush 100, cloud nine mini mag, and Movement 80 X The 80X might not get down to 3 feet, but comes through brush like no other. It also has a unique wide wobble that on certain days is what the bass want. 6th Sense has awesome colors, for me, and great hooks for the bass. Norman Fat Boy, another one that barely gets down to 3 feet, but comes through cover well, and gets bit for a way under $10 Rapala DT 6 has saved the day for me.
  9. Weightless 7 inch Senko, because that is as far down the finesse road I ever need to go.
  10. If some company were to sponsor me, than I would only fish that companies products. I would find a way to make them work, even if the only product I could fish was a Banjo Minnow on a Zebco Barbie rod. Unfortunately I will never have the opportunity to be paid or even receive free gear, from any manufacturer of fishing products, so I have zero loyalty to any company. If the Bait Monkey say's buy it, I fish it loose it, then buy more in a different size and color.
  11. Talk like that could barely create a very small disturbance in the force. I thought you were going to say Luke Skywalker fished an Expride rod, with a Zillion reel. Now that would cause a disturbance. If you really have your heart set on causing a disturbance in the force, all you have to do is tell my wife the Zillion reel I bought is no better than the Tatula CT I already have.
  12. May 13 2023. 7.6 7.9 8.2 8.9 10.1 pictures in order small to big
  13. I agree. I will go on TW to replace $20 bait I lost. Then I realize it would be cheaper to buy $50 and get the free shipping. I then end up with $100 of tackle. I find it impossible to hit the $50 mark. Another dealer has free shipping on $100 orders. I try and hit the $100 price and it always comes out $200. I am not sure why this happens, but I suspect the Bait Monkey is responsible.
  14. All I know is I can get skunked on any lake any size.
  15. I try an eat healthy while I fish. I don't like to waste any time, and don't have much space in my kayak. I have found that Pop tarts, candy bars, chips, and Diet Coke fit these requirements.
  16. I store mine in my car, where they will melt that way I have an excuse to buy more.
  17. I would suspect you would hook far fewer fish, but land more of the ones you hook. I have tried single J hooks on crankbaits in the past, but have had issues with some crankbaits running correctly with them. I swap to single hooks on all my inline spinners, spoons, and blade baits. I find I hook just as many bass, and loose far fewer bass that I hook. I use circle hooks for live bait, but have never tried them on lures. Good luck as others have said please keep posting your results.
  18. I don't know the weight, didn't have a scale that day. I caught it on a spinnerbait I made. I only tied the skirt, and put the blades on, the body was bought from Lure Parts Online. Skirt was made from Lumaflex, and flashabu.
  19. But why do they like ribbon tail purple worms one year, and will only hit straight tail worms the next. It must be because I stocked up on ribbon tails after last years succuss and didn't order any more straight tail worms wrongly thinking I had more than enough. If that is the case how did the bass find out what kind of worms I had more of? Never mind, they found out the same way they found out I had an endless supply of one crankbait, but only one left of another. Next time I go fishing I'm going to put trick worms in an Ole monster bag, or maybe even mix the two in the same bag. I will count them to know which one I have more of, of the big question is will the bass know. I will try anything to stay one step ahead of the bass. If this works, I'm gong to label a box Jack Hammers, and fill it full of cheap chatterbaits.
  20. My two are not really superstitions because I do believe them to be universal facts. 1. The more expensive a lure is the quicker it will be lost. 2. Toilet paper will only be needed if it is not on the boat.
  21. If bass fisherman were meant to only use one brand of soft plastics, there would only be one brand of soft plastics. Talk like that could spread to crankbaits. Then what type of crazy world would we live in?
  22. I was finally able to fish my favorite lake for the first time this year. A local lodge does not fish there anymore, and I was the only one on the water both days this weekend. It was very nice to have the place to myself again. Saturday I got off to a fast start with a 5.5 pound bass landed in the first 15 minuets of the day. It was a short chunky bass, I wish I would have taken time to turn my kayak around and get a picture with the sun at a different angle. I finished the day with 25 bass, the largest that first 5.5 pounder. The afternoon west winds started at 11:00 Am and didn't stop until way late at night. 20 mile an hour winds in a kayak can be frustrating, but I stuck with it, and had a good day. Sunday started off with 15 MPH. winds out of the East. I had to change my plans of fishing off shore and drift down the bank. I landed a 7 pound bass along with some small bass on a chaterbait. The east winds started dying down at noon, I new I only had at most an hour before the west winds started howling. I went to the off shore spots I had luck at yesterday before the wind started, and landed one 9.4 a 5.8 a 5.5 pound, and a 3.5 pound bass along with many smaller bass offshore. I might have caught another big one or two, but nature called, and I had no choice but to answer. I lost valuable time with light winds, going to shore to take care of business. As expected the wind shifted to the west at 25 MPH. within an hour. I was tired and only drifted one shore line before calling it a day. My best five for Sunday added up to 31.2. pounds with a total of 18 bass. No double digits, but still a great way to start the year. I landed one large bass on a bladed jig, drifting the shoreline, and all the other big bass were taken on T rigged Zoom Magnum Trick worms in Junebug. Having to fish slow with a T rig, made fishing offshore difficult to impossible in the strong wind. My anchor wouldn't hold, and keeping the kayak facing my target was challenging. I tried every lure in the box but besides loosing a hog on a spinnerbait, worms were the deal. Last year at this lake the only worms I could get them to bite were ribbon tail worms. This past weekend no matter how hard I tried, I could only get them to bite the mag trick worms. Bass sure are unpredictable. I also got a large tilapia on a large square bill. Pictures are in order, 5.5 pound bass caught on Saturday, 7, and 9 pound bass caught on Sunday, and of course the Tilapia, also caught today.
  23. I have an Outback and love it. I can sit or stand all day and fish comfortably. I have had my Outback far offshore on the pacific ocean in moderate seas, and had no difficulties. I can launch from beaches and surf waves back in to shore without difficulty. I bass fish on a lake with small waves, but winds over 20 MPH and never have to quit because of safety, or not being able to maneuver to cast. I have never tried a Pro Angler, but they appear to be to heavy for what I want to do, and I do not feel I lack stability, or comfort with my Outback. Picture is of my outback loaded with fishing and camp gear on a remote Mexican bass lake.
