  1. If you are able, Watch "The Pacific War in Color" on the Smithsonian channel. Great footage I've never seen before.
  2. I want to replace my DL 1400lb stock winch on my RangerTrail with a racheting type winch. Any suggestions as to brand or type? Thanks
  3. If it is anywhere near a record of some sort...it needs to be weighed on state certified scales. Hence the grocery store.
  4. I'm beginning to become more and more serious about air-brushing glide baits and some topwaters. Can anyone recommend a book depicting full color photos of North American fresh water fishes? Thank You
  5. Being born and raised in Western Washington, I know nothing about these species. Several years ago the state started stocking sterile Tiger Muskies in some of our lakes in an effort to control some of the less desirable species that have appeared. My question is...when bass fishing in lakes that hold these fish, do you routinely use wire leaders? Or just roll the dice that you won't be surprised by a toothy critter? I would love to catch one (must release if under 50"), but I would hate to lose one along with some expensive gear. Thanks
  6. This stuff is amazing. Sticks to all soft plastics and won't rub off. https://www.ispikeit.com/category/72/sb-coat-solvent-based
  7. Yup, I'd say smallmouth. They change colors like a chameleon. I could always tell at weigh-in if fish were caught on rocks or in weeds by the color variation.
  8. Friday. Water has had time to warm up and should be pre-frontal. I would be looking for transitions into spawning areas and throwing alot of spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, and jerkbaits. Not necessarally. I fish a large lake that is 8 feet deep at it's deepest point. Two hours of continuous sunshine is enough to effect the water temp.
  9. Abolutely! My home lake is clear enough to see a dime on the bottom in 20 FOW. Trust me, when I fish stained or off colored water, I'm definitely using high vis line. After 40 years in construction, I have lost a lot of sensation in my hands and where I haven't lost it they're covered with callouses. After all, I am a line watcher first and foremost.
  10. One particular instance that is etched in my memory. My brother and I were fishing a hump on my home lake which is gin clear water. I began catching 2-3 lb smallies on a Fat Gitzit. After my 3rd fish my brother asked to borrow some of the tubes. Still, I caught fish and he didn't. As an experiment, we switched poles...his with 10# Stren Flourescent Blue, mine with 8# Green Trilene XL. He caught a 4# smallie on his first cast and several following while I managed to catch one dink. I am not here to convince anybody that line type makes a difference, but in my experience it can.
  11. Too many times I have fished with a guy in the backseat where one is catching and one isn't and the only difference is the line being used. So yes, I do believe fish can be line shy.
  12. This screams out frog to me. Also, would be doing a Johnson's Silver Minnow all day.
  13. I'm likein' those points at the entrance to the bay with the island in the NE corner. I'd be throwing jigs and slow rolling spinnerbaits.......knowing that I'd be fishing all day for one or two strikes and hoping I was ready.
  14. Back in the day when rod lockers were 6' long, some rods were made to collapse from 7'6'' or more to 6'. I still use a couple of flipping sticks and crankbait rods that were made like that. Do they still make these?
  15. Keep your line wet! And come here often.
  16. Anybody using these on a regular basis? I fished out of a guys backseat at a tournament last year and he kicked my butt with one. He was in first place with big fish after the first day. He was throwing a black 3/4 oz model with an 8" black culprit trailer. And he was throwing it in fairly open water. I've used them before but usually only in a pad field or fairly dense vegetation. Needless to say, I ordered a couple but haven't had a chance to try them out yet. Anybody using them?
  17. As my avatar shows....I have a '79 CJ that my wife says is "too tall" for her to get in.
  18. When I first started out, I went thru several before I settled on this one. It does everything I need it to do and is easy to clean and maintain. Good Luck. https://www.amazon.com/Badger-Air-Brush-Patriot-Gravity-Airbrush/dp/B002W84GTO
  19. Inch of snow in the backyard this morning.
  20. According to Roland Martin, there are nine reasons that a bass will attack an object. Feeding is only one of them. So no, it really doesn't matter what or how big an object is....given the right provocation a bass will eat it.
  21. Hand/eye coordination things usually come pretty easy to me but I've had a heck of a time learning to pitch (and yes, I've seen ALL the videos). At times I think I may be trying for too much distance. What is the length of your typical pitch? At what distance do you go to a roll cast or some other method? Thanks
  22. For those of you who are as anal as I am....Home Depot now sells wire ties of the right size in tan and a color that looks remarkably like green pumpkin.
  23. Most of my fishing is done in 8' of gin clear water or less. I'm a huge believer in a stealthy approach. My clothing is background or sky colors, my chrome trolling motor shaft is wrapped, and I would never own a red, yellow or orange boat. If you watch many of the televised bass fishing events you will see that I am in the minority. Doug Hannon caught more than 400 bass over 10 pounds in his career in less than 3' of water. He wore camouflaged clothing and his small tin boat was also painted camo.
  24. This was back in the late '70's. I think he'd won his first classic and nobody really knew much about him.........yet.
