  1. x3 Thanks to all for sharing their knowledge... ...and helping to make me broke and happy ;D BR
  2. It's a small world, It might count. lol Just checkin, I know a guy that had an F150 and moved to W-S. I haven't talked to him in a while. BR
  3. I live in Raleigh, a few minutes from Falls and Jordan lakes. I'm always up for fishing if I have any free time. I have access to a boat but no way to pull it at the present time, so I do a lot of bank beating too. If you or anyone in the area want to do a little fishin let me know and we can try to set something up. F150, Just wondering.........Did you ever live in Durham by any chance? BR
  4. Soft plastic frog You can work it on the top or on the bottom. Or use different weight hooks or retrieve speeds to swim it down deep or shallow. There are alot of ways to modify and rig a frog Color? Not sure......bullfrog.....black/blue...... :-/ BR
  5. Here is the NC State Parks Site. It might have some useful info for you. http://www.ncparks.gov/Visit/main.php Just use the "Find a Park" search for each lake. BR
  6. Sorry I didn't see this thread until today. Here is my Triangle lake report. I live about 10-15 min from Falls and about 15-20 min from Jordan The lake levels around here are bad, Falls Lake last I heard was -9 to -10 ft. No bass bite( at least for me) and a slow crappie bite. I haven't been to Falls, since before Christmas so there might be others that have figured it out. Jordan Lake is a little better but not great(around -4 to -6 ft)But fishing there is ok. We had a great winter Crappie bite(still a good bite now) and bass are slow but findable. I haven't been in a few weeks. But last time I was out there I found the bass suspending over deep humps in main lake water near creek channels. At normal levels the fishing is great(don't know how long it will be before it returns to normal). Sorry no Walleyes or Smallies. I think there are only 2 lakes in NC that have those species.( James and Fontana, not 100% sure on that) Main species in Falls and Jordan are LM bass, Strippers, and Crappie. I think as of right now there is only one boat ramp open at Falls. Don't know of any closings at Jordan. But there are some ramps where you will find the end. Hope my $.02 helps BR

  8. Depending on the rod power/action/length you want........... My pick: St Croix Avid AC66MHF $136 at www.reedssports.com
  9. I buy clear soft plastic bags and take my plastics out of their original bags. Just makes them easier to see in my plastics tackle bag. I've had soft plastics melt ziploc bags, melt each other and bleed color on each other, so I don't mix plastics. BR
  10. Question for you guys that have decked in Aluminum. Is it loud/noisy when you move or drop stuff? This thought is what led me to deck with wood and use thick non-skid paint. BR
  11. Thanks again I'm starting to feel like a kid waiting to go to the candy store. ;D BR
  12. Thanks Looks like I have alot of stuff I can use ;D I even have some rootbeer swimbaits left over from a trout fishing trip. Do I need heavy tackle to fish for Tarpon or just a good drag and patience? BR
  13. Some friends and I are planning a trip to the keys to fish for some reds and bones. I have never fished for these species before. I wanted to know what lures I could use out of my bass fishing arsenal(and a small selection of spotted trout baits)? I think the trip is going to take place at the end of Feb. I don't know how the fishing is at this time of year, but that's when it has to happen if its going to happen :-/ Thanks, BR
  14. I don't have a "True Temper steel shaft casting rod" but I do have a 5'6'' Lews speed stick(pistol grip) and a few old(and new) Jitterbugs. There is a cast control knob on the other side. Thanks for the heads up I didn't even know that the black center piece on the handle was a button. As soon a I read that I ran out to the garage to check it out. It does free the spool and the handle does not turn. Thanks, BR
  15. Thanks I don't plan on using it. I thought if I was going to keep it I'd clean it up. Thanks again BR
  16. I found an old Pflueger Supreme BC reel in my Grandma's Garage. Does anyone know how old this reel is? Don't know if I'll ever use it but I thought I would clean it up. All the internal parts seem to be in good shape. I have cleaned it inside and out. What kind of grease do I use and where do I apply it? There are also some ports on the handle side, what are these for oil, grease, or neither? Thanks, BR Sorry about the bad cell phone pics.
  17. I bought my carrot stix from the e21 site. These rods were fairly new when I got mine and Delo's models and specs were screwy, So I went straight to to source. I got the CLTX671M-S and it is MED:power, MFAST:action. I love it. It makes an great topwater and small wakebait rod. BR

    jigs...

I haven't poured my own heads but I've put together a few skirts. The skirts I've made were with o-rings and the skirt material that is connected on the ends. I layer the skirt material with the colors and to the thickness I want. Then I use a pair of pliers(the kind you use on C clips) to open up the o-rings and pull the skirt material though. After that I just cut off the connected part and the skirt is even. There are pliers made just for this and a tube tool(like the kind used for wacky rig o-rings). If the jighead has a barb or collar just slide the skirt/o-ring over it and it should stay. I've never hand tied jigs so I can't help with that. You can look here to see skirt tools: http://www.staminainc.com/skirts/skirt_tools.html Hope this helped. BR
  19. FourCorners, thanks for the expo review. I'm trying to find a way to the expo in Raleigh this weekend. Glad to hear the seminars were worth going for, hopefully I can get to a few of them this weekend.
  20. I have a "Trout Unlimited Colorado". It cost around $300 at the time I got bought it. It weights around 70# with some mods. It doesn't have a standing platform but it is very stable. I can lean over in any direction and lip a fish w/o any worries of tipping. This toon has pretty thick pontoon covers. There are toons with thicker but many are much thinner. It has 2 bladders per pontoon for added safety. I transport it put together(w/o Batt and TM) and mostly inflated on my cars roof rack. When I unload it I just top off the air, sit the batt in, attach TM, attach oars, and load my gear. This takes around 10-20 min depending on terrain. If I had to assemble it on site it would take me around 20-30min again depending on terrain. I use a dual action pump and it is very quick and easy to inflate. Don't bother with those cig. lighter pumps they just don't do the job. Good to fill the bladders up quick but not enough pressure to top them off. At the $300 price point I like mine. Fun to fish from and I can take it to places that you just can't get a boat in. Another advantage is you sit up higher than you would a kayak or canoe(That is unless you have outriggers and can stand up. ;D ) If you have any other questions ask away. Toons are a blast. You can also visit this float tube forum at: http://www.bigfishtackle.com/cgi-bin/gforum/gforum.cgi?category=66; The guys and gals there know alot about these craft and are more than happy to answer any questions or concerns you have. 23. I went out fishing for crappie with my dad. There were three of us and we had few rods out each. We hit a nice size school and had one hit after another. Well my dad ended up having one of his rods pulled overboard. Two days later and 50-60 yds away from his loss my buddy said he had bite. Then he said he was just caught up in some old line. We pulled in the line and to my dad's surprise it was his rod and reel.
