  1. Yeah man, the fishin does suck over that way. We applaude your efforts and say many prayers for you and all the brothers and sisters in arms. Magazines are but a small token of our appreciation. What's the temperature today? 123 SSg Fatz
  2. It would be a great honor to fish with any number of the aforementioned pros. However, I think I'd just like to get dear ole Dad to trade a golf club for a fishing rod once. But if I did have to "settle" for some other partner I'd go with KVD.
  3. Ive had a similar experience as RW. A largemouth with what appears to have been a broken back. I've caught it twice. Surprisingly, its disability hasn't detracted from its fight.
  4. I've a buddy that told me about a private pond that he and the owner would practice marksmanship (pistol. rifle, shotgun) over. Sometime afterward, they fished it and hooked up a crappie with what appeared to be a healed over bullet wound. A hole through the tail. They released the fish, giving it with the name "Tombstone". Subsequently, the same fish was reported to have been caught a number of times in the following years.
  5. I have a tube tied on any and everytime I fish. This is my go to bait for all occasions. Draggin, hoppin, swimmin and floatin, it gets fished in all manner. IMO nothin beats the tube.
  6. the MRI shows acute arthritis in your shoulder and as you rest uncomfortably with the shoulder iced you are thinking of what you are gonna try tomorrow.
  7. TUBES! gotta have em. color don't matter as much, so long as they're dark. med/hevy rod, tough reel, strong line. throw out in them thick weeds and hang on.
  8. Thanx for the suggestions. My buddy is settin this up down in southern In. I don't know where for sure. It's a state lake and he says we gotta hump it out there. Tells me now the water is clear to stained and thick with timber. Warns me to beef up my line for bigguns.
  9. Folks will respond "practice". I surely don't practice enough with my spin outfits so, I suffer accuracy. To somewhat remedy this I try and keep my casts short when using spinning eq. I've used the stuff +20 years and mostly suck at casts beyond 35 feet. The baitcaster accuracy is much better. I think its because I have better control at the release and can thumb the spool to maintain distance.
  10. If you had the chance to backpack it to an isolated lake with the intention of camping a day or two, what baits might you select to bring and in what quanity? Space and weight considerations are necessary. You don't know water conditions for sure. You only suspect it will be worth the trip if they're bitin.
  11. Any day you fish is better than a poke in the eye with a broken Trion rod. Sorry bout that. Like anything, fishing has its ups and downs. Don't worry about it, "A great day is a comin", I always say.
  12. Black an blue jig with matching trailer. Black w/red flake power tube. pitch and flip. Cranks big wobblers like Bagley's Balsa B or Kill'r B, chartreuse with black back
  13. You could try casting a t-rig onto shore and workin it back to them if they were that close to the bank. If you were droppin that bait right on top of them then thats probably why they spooked
  14. 14' Alumacraft jon, '58 Johnson 10 hp, Minn Kota 46#, Hummingbird. The motor don't miss and the boat has a deck and all weather carpeting.
  15. I bank fish a good deal even though I have a boat. It just is easier for short fishin time. In dark or muddy water, I've had bass take the bait right at my feet. it's a little more difficult with the water clear, they spook real easy.
  16. Caught the same bass twice in a half hour. I could see clearly where it was hooked the first time. Has this happened much with anyone else?
  17. Howdy!
  18. Hey Driver, welcome. Fishings like riding a bike, couple times out and you'll be an old hat. Fatz
  19. By going under the gill cover, I worry about damaging the gill filament. And, what if the fish is already bleeding bad. I cut one loose the other day that was hooked way deep and I just couldn't get at the hook either way. I didn't have my long nose pliers either though. Regarding a timely hookset. At least with the previous mentioned fish, I was fishing in very windy conditions using a tube bait. Just when to pull the trigger can be awful touchy. Too soon, missed fish too late deep hook.
  20. Fishing is an activity/sport that nearly anyone can take part in. Not everyone can don pads and jerseys and be successful or at least find a pick-up game. The tournament purses get larger through advertising and demand. DNR revenues increase through licensing and fees. Better maintained fisheries. Greater demand stimulates competitiveness and innovation. We get better equipment every year with which to find, target, and catch fish. Higher boat and shore trafffic is a drag. Unscrupulous sportsmen leaving refuse behind is a real drag. just a couple thoughts, Fatz
  21. Its through homework, experimentation, hands on application and practice that a person develops skill and proficiency. The arena doesn't have to be fishing necessarily. I still usually wear the one hat, but never considered it lucky.
  22. Picked up some Senkos the other day and look forward to trying them. I plan to try the Carolina Rig as well.
  23. I almost never keep any fish I catch. I personally find it a pain to prepare them. I like to eat fish of all kinds and sometimes with the help of a brother will catch up a mess of wallys or cat and have a fine fish fry but this occurs maybe once a blue moon. With bass, the only thing I take is a picture.
  24. This one is touchy for me. I'm right handed so I've always casted rt. and did the changeover. Last summer, I buy a lefty Curado thinkin efficiency. The problem was I never used a baitcaster before so that was aggravating enough just to learn. Then, I struggle to get my left to crank well. I lose fish cause slack will get in the line. I've since got a Citica righty and it is much easier to use but the Curado collects dust. This is a shame cause the Curado cost me a bit for it not to get used much. Not to mention the fine qualities inherent in a Curado. A shoulder injury (right) is forcing me to cast more left handed so I'm not switching hands after the cast all the time. I'm getting better throwing with the left so thats cool but I stilll have to use the right for accuracy. Sure wish I could use that Curado more often though. Fatz
  25. Disregard my question. I found the manual. Seems I surfed everywhere but the ultimate bassresource. How could I have been so foolish. You sure got it all together Glenn. My fishin hats off to you. Fatz
