  1. I know this is a dumb question, but how do you bring up the member map?
  2. I have unfortunately had a friend do that before. After begging me for years to take him fishing, I finally decided to bring him. he only fishes a couple times a year, so I was surprised when he said that he could throw a baitcaster. Me :are you sure you can cast it? They aren't as easy to cast as they look. Friend: yes, I use mine all the time! (He "forgot" his baitcaster both times I've been with him). So the first time I took him fishing the bass were eating jerkbaits, but he didn't bring a rod stiff enough to throw them. I let him borrow my baitcaster, (spooled with expensive tatsu floro) and within three casts he said, um, I think I got a tangle. I looked over and saw a massive backlash. The backlash was so bad and went so far into the spool that I couldn't untangle it and had to throw away fourty-five dollars of line. He just didn't understand why I was so worked up over it.
  3. The revo s is a great reel, and if you get it from FFO it's only 78$. Another good reel (or so i've heard) is the Abu Garcia premier, although it's a little over your budget. FFO has it for 140 right now, but the retail price is 250 everywhere else. The supreme weighs 6.9 oz.
  4. I recently purchased a mushroom jig mold (for Ned rig heads) and I am trying to decide if I am going to paint the jigs and what color is best. I already own half of a gallon of red paint so that would be easiest. Any advice?
  5. What's everyone's favorite color of jigheads for Ned rigging, and does it make any difference?
  6. If you want to continue kayak fishing, carry a hand gun. Let us know when you are attacked. Hopefully you manage to escape.
  7. My favorite is the keitech fat swinging impact, with the grass pig a close second. The nice thing about the grass pigs is they are only 2.99, and are more durable then the keitechs.
  8. big chartruse spinnerbait with an oversized Colorado blade should work.
  9. War eagle spinnerbaits all the way. All of there spinnerbaits are fish catching machines.
  10. I use braid to floro for the same reasons of the above posts, sensitivity, hook sets, and no memory. I tried floro but didn't like it since it has so much memory and stretch. if you do decide to get floro, although I would advise against it, bite the bullet and get tatsu.
  11. Usually when you twitch the fish is just there, without any indication of a bite. Always watch your line, sometimes the bass will eat it on the pause.
  12. I usually use a medium power rod, unless i'm throwing a staysee. You should always have slack line on the pause right up till the twitch, otherwise the jerkbait keeps moving forward. What I usually do is cast out, give two downward twitches, pause with a slack line for 2 to 45 seconds depending on the water temperature and the fish activity level. Vary how far you move the tip until you find what the fish want, but as a general rule for everything, use less movement for colder water.
  13. I agree with the above posts, jerkbaits are still killer in muddy water, they are just a little better when the water is clear. Just pick one with more flash and loud rattles.
  14. What's the water temperature? Without knowing the water temperature, I would probably pick a chartruse spinnerbait with an oversized Colorado blade.
  15. I don't think the bass care wether it's clear or not when deciding to eat a lipless crank, since it's more of a reaction lure anyway. I have slayed them in crystal clear water on the original rattling rattle trap, and I was using it in a way that it wasn't a reaction lure. Bass don't know that they aren't supposed to eat loud lures in clear water.
  16. For those temperatures I would use a jerkbait, a lipless rattlebait, a jig, and most importantly the Ned rig. And the Ned rig doesn't just catch massive numbers of bass, it also catches big ones to. Two weeks ago I caught an 8.2 pounder on the trd.?
  17. First off, don't buy from basspro, there stuff is way marked up. Instead, order from Fishing Factory Outlet and wait a couple weeks for the 15$ off over fifty, 25 off over a hundred, etc. They do that sale about once every six weeks or so. Get yourself a 7 foot medium-heavy casting Abu Garcia villain for 72$, with the retail price being 200$. Then get the the pfluegar supreme xt low profile casting reel (although it's shown as a recon, it's never been used in like new condition) for 88$ instead of the retail price of 150$. If you wait for the sale, it should only run about 140$ or so for a set up worth 350$.?
  18. Another vote for the suspending jerkbait, nothing works better in cold front and/or cold water conditions.
  19. What's the water temperature? If we knew that it would be easier to help you.
  20. Got out after the guys from a local tourney finished, (the winning bag was only 11.02 pounds) but had a hard time finding water that hadn't already been hit to hard. Did fairly well once I found a good cove, with the total being seventeen bass. I was fishing in two to five feet of water in the back half of coves, most bass coming off of sun warmed rip rap banks. A lot of them were just little twelve inch dinks, but my best five weighed about 9-10 pounds. I tried fishing a jig, but only got two little giys. The rest were caught on the trd fished with a very different retrieve. I started out using the drag/deastick, blanked, tried swim glide shake, blanked, and then tried hopping it off the bottom like a jig. Surprisingly the retrieve they wanted was giving it two little hops and letting it sink back to the bottom, kind of like using a jig. Maybe the bass thought it was a crawfish or little invertebrate, but that was the first time I had tried that retrieve. It was still windy today, but it was a little less and it didn't swirl around changing directions so much, making it possible to find a protected cove.
  21. That's not an easy thing to do, it took me three years of hard training to accomplish that feat. And I was/am a fairly good runner, when I was thirteen I ran a timed one mile race, and finished with a fast enough time to qualify for the junior Olympics( it was 4:46). I never did officially qualify for the junior Olympics, because the amount of time it would take to train etc. would mean I could barely fish for at least several months.
  22. Good for you, I actually beat my one mile record last week as well.
  23. I think you should probably find a new fishing buddy. I don't really have a fishing buddy, except for my dad coming occasionally, I fish alone. The way I look at, I don't annoy myself, I'm not carelessly breaking my equipment, I don't talk non-stop, and I don't want to quit early. Sounds perfect to me. I wonder why.
  24. Late may through july is debatably the best time to fish for carp and catfish.
  25. yes, the fish are probably in prespawn patterns. I would start targeting coves in three to eight feet of water. Fished for one and a half hours this afternoon, but the bass had completely shut down from the cold front. Only caught four dinks on the ned rig. The wind wasn't as bad as it was predicted, except the horrible gusts, but it kept changing directions making it impossible to find an area protected from the wind for long.
