  1. Like the above posters, make sure you slobber on the line before starting and several times during the knot tieing process.
  2. Those are awesome, store bought baits Don't even compare to those! Are by any chance interested in selling them?
  3. Nice! Which lake was it at?
  4. I'm glad you are able to stay here for the rest of the spring bite, but it would be hard to go without bass fishing for eight months, I think I would go into withdrawals.. Thank you for your service to our country.
  5. Awesome bag, but weren't you going to some other country with the military for a while? I'm glad you were able to stay home and catch some more beasts though.
  6. I bet those hudds would work well on the Alabama rig, but I would be afraid to use a sixty five dollar rig!
  7. I once caught a channel catfish with four ewg worm hooks in it's mouth. I was bass fishing with two of my brothers a number of years ago with zoom utails Texas rigged when one of them hooked big cat that broke off when it rolled next to the tube we were fishing out of (after it dragged him around a bit). A few minutes later my other brother hooked another big cat that broke his line to. No one else hooked it that day, but I came back the next day and after it dragged me around for the fifteen minute fight, I finally caught it and opened its mouth to find four different hooks in it, my brothers two hooks, my hook, and another fisherman's hook! I was extremely pleased with getting our expensive owner hooks back and catching my pb channel cat that weighed seventeen pounds.
  8. Sometimes, it depends on the walmart. I would recommend the gamakatsu circle hooks for the hot dogs and cut shad. The fish don't care what kind of dip bait or dip worm, so just get whatever is cheapest.
  9. Nearly every lake has catfish in them, the best way I have found for catching numbers of channels is some kind of dip bait on a small dip bait holding plastic worm. If you want larger fish, cut shad on a big circle hook on a slip sinker rig.
  10. Give the guy a break, it's a great idea even though it probably won't revolutionize lures.
  11. Nice fish, did you use the little bass as bait?
  12. Double uni knot if I'm out fishing, but if I'm tying it at home I use the fg knot.
  13. I know you will love them, there's no such thing as a more fun lure to use than the Ned rig, just from the numbers of fish. Once you figure it out it's not uncommon to catch upwards of fifty fish. Let us know how they work out for you and if you have any questions about it.
  14. I garruntee that most of the people not ever getting skunked use the ned rig, and owe are fishing streaks to it.
  15. I think it's a bull bluegill.
  16. Sounds like I should have been on the lower end of the lake. I usually stay on the upper end cause I know it better from when I was stuck in a canoe without a trolling motor ( up until two or three weeks before we bought the boat, then a neighbor kindly gave me one of his) so it wasn't real appealing to paddle down to the opposite side of the lake from where I live. I didn't think there would be that much difference in water temperature less than a half of a mile away. Must be from the cold water coming in the rivers at the upper end, I just wish that I'd thought of that while on the lake. Were you using a staysee or a medium diver jerkbait? Hopefully I will be able to get out tomorrow after the crappie tournament guys get off the lake.
  17. I would suggest a bulky, oversized Colorado blade spinnerbait. But good luck fishing in those conditions, out of the thousands of different conditions that bass fisherman face, cold and muddy water are the worst.
  18. I'm really surprised the hook bent out with that set up. With the hula stickz you can get away with using a slightly larger hook, but the smaller the hook the better the action. I wouldn't go over a size 1 hook, but I have only been fishing the Ned rig for a couple years so I don't know that much about it. Try messaging team 9, garderjigman, or blue basser about what size of hook to use, and they might have a good brand to recommend. They are experts on all things Midwest finesse, one of them is even part of infishermans finesse news network and occasionally writes reports and articles for them.
  19. I hate those leagues where everybody gets a participation trophy and nobody keeps score to "boost the kids self esteem, because everybody's a winner!" garbage. I really like the commercial where the soccer dad takes the sticker on the participation award trophy off.
  20. Fished in for about two hours this afternoon, but hardly caught anything. Last nights april snow cooled the water temperature down to 47 degrees. Started out fishing a jerkbait on deep points thinking that the clear water might turn the jerkbait bite on, but didn't get anything on it. Switched to the ned rig and caught three dinks and about a decent two pounder, unfortuanately I had to just deadstick it for as long as I could stand it before dragging it a few inches. The few fish I caught were on steep shorelines in eight to fifteen feet of water. Hopefully tomorrows warm rain will bring the bass up shallower to feed.
  21. I haven't had any issues with the hooks on the shroomzs, but if your using over ten pound line our anything stiffer than a medium power rod, that is most likely the problem. if you find a shaky head jig with a small enough hook it might work, but shaky heads usually have much to large of hooks.
  22. If the conditions are right for a shaky head jig, the Ned rig will work even better. The Ned rig is similar to the shaky head, but it catches way more fish and just as big (or bigger) bass.
  23. Has anyone used the bass pro ups z9r perch swimbait with any success before? I am considering buying one but wanted to make sure it wasn't junk like some of the bass pro brand stuff is.
  24. It's definitely a sucker, although I couldn't tell you what kind it is. Carp have smaller mouths, larger scales, and a taller body. That being said, sucker will eat most anything but there favorite food is night crawlers. For carp use.either bread or corn.
  25. Not really, but that doesn't mean it don't work. The exception is after the jerkbait is out of the area where the fish are, I will reel it in quickly and occasionally catch one while cranking it in for another cast.
