  1. What is the best over all big bass (over five or six pounds) bait for northern strain bass?
  2. What do you guys think of the savage gear line through trout swimbait? And do you think a six inch swimbait would be long enough for big bass over five pounds (for indiana).
  3. Fished for an hour tonight, but the bass moved out a little deeper into four to eight feet of water holding tight to cover because of the cold front. Three of the larger bass were caught where i hooked the 24.5 inch bass last month. Water clarity is down to a foot so I used a coppertruse trd and a bulky 1/4 ounce black and blue jig with a black zoom super chunk trailer that I borrowed from a friend since I'm out of jigs. Eight total with most being only eight to twelve inches long and the largest was only fourteen and a half inches. About half of them ate a jig and and the other on the Ned rig.
  4. Oh, I guess I was wrong in thinking he meant that he paid $650. Now that I re-read the post it does look like you are right.
  5. congratulations on buying an awesome rod for even more than it normally costs Mr. Money bags.
  6. Lucky dog, I brake off more in a single day than that!
  7. Great fish! It doesn't get any better than seeing big bass blow up on Mickey.
  8. That's pretty cool! My home lake only has a few smallmouth in it, but the population is growing. The only reason they are in there is because a guy I know illegally stocked fifty smallies a few years back that he caught out of a local river. He even illegally made his own rock pile for the smallmouth to hang around, bringing the stones out a couple a time whenever he looked around the lake in his boat to make sure everyone else was following the rules. The funny thing is, he works for the security and lake rules enforcement team at my lake lol.
  9. We were catching most of them using a double rig with a minnow on top and a jig on the bottom underneath a small slip float. now that they are starting to spawn you might be able to get away with a using a small tube or curly tail grub and throwing them up to the bank and slowly reeling them back. I would still highly suggest getting at least twelve dozen minnows as back up though, and buy them from a bait shop called buck and dumb bass as what they consider dozen is close to two actual dozen.
  10. Would you suggest using the hitch color or the light trout color of the savage real trout swimbaits?
  11. This is the number one misconception about fishing that I have noticed. The majority of non-fisherman that I talk to think that fishing is pure luck and something that is done out of a chair with worms under a softball sized bobber while drinking beer.
  12. I don't know about northern Indiana, but in central IN where I live the crappie are just starting to spawn with most of them still under docks in three to six feet of water feeding heavily. Depending on how far you are willing to drive, cateract lake is a great crappie lake, when we fished there last week we caught 213 crappie in about eight hours. if you do go there, try in stump alley. If you don't know where that is and you are planning on going there, shoot me a pm.
  13. I use both swim jigs and chatterbaits with a trailer, if only to slow the retrieve and fall rate down and to give them something to suck in. Match the color of swim jig to the water clarity and forage, and match the trailer color to the jig color. I usually use a three or four inch curly tail grub as trailer.
  14. Will a trout imitating swimbait work for bass that haven't ever seen a trout?
  15. Tannic acid is what makes tea tea instead of water. So it sounds like you are fishing in watered down tea.
  16. Thank you for all of the help! Sorry, last question. Would a medium-heavy rod work for the 3d bluegill? And someone gave me a basspro z9r perch in bluegill color for Christmas, would it work?
  17. What would you suggest? I caught my pb off a bed on a bitsy tube, so although I have caught a few big bass I am not exactly an experienced big bass chaser.
  18. Luck has very little to do with fishing. The reason the pros are so successful is because of skill, focus, knowledge of the basses seasonal movements and basses habits in general, a lot of on the water experience, and a little bit of luck. Fishing is not all random.
  19. I don't mind the durability issue much, I am mostly looking for a good swimbait to use in a lake I only fish once a year. That gravel pit is so far off of the highway that it is never fished and has some of the biggest bass I have seen, as well as the lake that produced my pb. I have heard a lot of good things about the Huddleston deluxe, but can't afford the 25$ price tag. So I don't really mind if it only lasts a couple fish, as long as it has a good chance of catching a big one.
  20. What color or Keitech swing impact fat would you guys choose for unpressured extremely clear water and bass that mostly feed on bluegill and perch? I was thinking something along the lines of bluegill flash but was wondering what you all would choose.
  21. Thank you for the notice on that awesome deal. I really wish I could buy that from him because, not even FFO has that combo so cheap, stkbassn has such a good seller rating and I would prefer to give my money to him instead of a big company. But unfortunately my parents are convinced anyone selling something that's not from a big company like tw or basspro is going to rip me off and don't allow me to buy from them.. They were even nervous about me purchasing from FFO at first lol. Thanks again for the heads up though, that is exactly what I am looking for. I think I am going to get the Abu Garcia black max and pair it up with a Fenwick HMG rod. Thank you guys for all of the replies and special thanks to Allen Der!
  22. Better than in indiana with my whopping 0.3 percent chance of catching a ten pound bass here.
  23. What cheaper swimbait do you prefer?
  24. Fished for about two hours in the rain today. The bass that weren't spawning were up six inches from the bank feeding on all of the food getting washed in. Often a bass would blow up on the bait as soon as it touched the water before it even got a chance to sink. Caught a total of twenty six bass between a pound and a half and 3.6 all on the half of a zinkerz. I also caught a nice bonus fourteen inch crappie. For all of you guys who like to throw spinnerbaits, this weekend is going to be a good time to do that.
  25. That is one great lake and a monster gill and shellcracker!
