  1. Wow, that is one of the biggest crappie I have ever seen! How long was it and how much did it weigh?
  2. Bummer, they have always looked like hard fighters. And it sure does have big carp, I caught a 38 pound common carp last summer on the ned rig. I'll try to remember to bring the photo of it and the big bass I caught last spring for the next time I see you out.
  3. Nice buffalo! I don't suppose there's any in HL, is there?
  4. Oh.
  5. Is there any reason that you can't melt it in a microwave that is being used for food?
  6. If I were you, I would not change a thing. I lose more fish than that in an afternoon of fishing, I wish that was all I lost in a year, let alone a week!
  7. Congrats on the awesome deal, I would've stocked up on enough pointers to last a lifetime for that price.
  8. Is it just a local thing, or everywhere?
  9. The males have a dark, navy/blue color like that. Some people even mistake them for blue catfish because some of them are so dark.
  10. I would recommend using a clearish colored jerkbait, fish it over top of weeds and on wind blown banks.
  11. Outch. I would hate anything that ate my shiner that weighed less than five pounds.
  12. Find a used aluminum 14 foot modified-v hull, preferably prerigged with a small outboard and trolling motor. I bought a used 14' mod-v aluminum boat rigged with a 9.9 horse power motor, brand new 36 pound trolling motor, two anchors and ropes, two depth finders, and a trailer on craigslist and talked him down to $1200. Just make sure to check the nuts on the trailer tires to make sure they aren't missing, I didn't do this and found out the hard way they were missing. Somehow the trailer tire stayed on over 28 miles of highway with nothing holding it on, I have no idea how the tire didn't roll off since it wasn't attached to the trailer.
  13. What are you confused about, I will try to clarify if I can?
  14. I don't skip jigs a lot, but when i do i use seibert's dock rocker jig.
  15. Original pork frogs are unbeatable when the bass want subdued action. The z-man batwing-z works pretty good to when they want a little more action, however neither the pork or the batwing-z have as much action as the rage craw.
  16. First off the term "ned rig" wasn't started by it's founder ned kahde, it was started from all of the hype around it. Many people now think it means only a z-man trd on a mushroom head jig, probably because it is the current standard bearer of Midwest finesse fisherman and by far the most popular. Other baits commonly used by midwest finesse fisherman are the hula stick-z, finesse shad-z, recently the trd tube-z, and small Bucktail jigs. The ned rig really means any soft plastic bait (usually made by z-man) four inches and under threaded on a mushroom head jig weighing 3/32 ounce down to 1/32 ounces, with the most popular and versatile weight being 1/16 of an ounce.
  17. Well, then I guess you are just really lucky then. I have unfortuanately lost way more tackle than that even though I go swimming for every lure I snag, I just can't always find them because of depth, poor clarity, etc.
  18. The z-man trd (otherwise falsely known as the ned rig) in either the coppertruse color or junebug.
  19. You don't fish nearly enough if that's all you've lost.
  20. http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/17192 Here's a link to a similar thread. The most expensive trip so far was last spring when I lost an rcstx, two pointers, six trd's and shroom-z heads, broke my villain while trying to unsnag my pointer, and lost my net while trying to unsnag my other pointer with it. All in one day. Let's just say that I made a lure retriever before I went fishing again so I didn't have to stick my rod or net in the water to try to force it out, and I purchased equipment to start pouring my own jig heads that same week.
  21. Sounds like it might be my next spot to try. Got out fishing this afternoon for about three hours. I caught a total of 24 bass, all of them on the ned rig with the new trd tubez fished with a lift and drop retrieve. I tried to catch them on a frog and jerkbait, but the only thing they wanted was the ned rig. The best areas were rip rap shorelines and points in two to ten feet of water, with a few under main lake docks. Most were just little 12-14 inch dinks, but five measured over fifteen inches to weigh 8.8 pounds with "big" bass weighing only 2.75 pounds. Not great size but it was fun to catch a bunch of bass.
  22. I've never actually fished in sugar creek, but it looks pretty good on google earth and the state record rockbass came out of it. I used to fish white lick creek quite a bit, had a lot of fun wading it in the summer and catch acrobatic smallmouth.
  23. I would probably take a medium-lite spinning rod with a ned rig, inline spinner, small pop-r, and either a bitsy crank or a small curly tail grub.
  24. I use green colored braid, with frogs there really isn't any advantage to seeing your line since you should already be watching the frog, which is the only thing that matters anyway. Yellow isn't going to help you tell when the fish has moved off with your frog, you can see when your frog disappears.
  25. Gliss is much thinner and smoother than both nanofiliment and fireline, resulting in longer casts. The only downside to gliss is that after about four months of very heavy use it starts fraying, while fireline can be used practically forever. The difference between them is that fireline and nanofiliment are actually "braided" while gliss is not. This means that gliss is much slicker if not as durable.
