  1. I've got a curado B-200 and it is an awesome reel for crankbaits and swimbaits. It is a little on the big side, large enough that I can't palm it to the degree that I prefer for jerkbaits and walking baits, but it is my favorite crankbait/swimbait reel that I have ever tried. To give you an idea of how durable it is, I have one that my grandfather used for roughly 20-30 years and he later passed it down to me. Even after all of that time and use it's still in great condition, I've never even had to send it in to tuned or cleaned or anything. So as far as I can tell, they are pretty much indestructible and would be perfect for the swimbaits you mentioned.
  2. I wouldn't go so far as to say that he can speak or write fluently...
  3. Thanks, i'll try a frog next time i'm out now that the rain messed up the jerkbait bite.
  4. Sorry to get off topic, but at what temperature range does the fall frog migratory bite occur?
  5. Not gonna happen, I still have faith that the bronco's are gonna pull ahead of them. And even if they somehow do get into the play-offs, they're gonna look like a jv team while playing the patriots.
  6. Like every one else said, go with light braid and a mono or fluorocarbon leader. Any pound test braid will work, as long as it's no more than ten pound test, but I prefer six pound for the extra casting distance. Use a short leader of 6-8 pound mono or flouro for abrasion resistance.
  7. Nice walleye! Yep, I glued the slim swim-z onto a 1/16 ounce mushroom jig that I pour. Although I didn't catch anything on it, I do believe that it will be effective under the right conditions.
  8. They sure do, I once in-countered a stubborn spawning bass that looked (and weighed) to be a little over four pounds that would not eat a lure. I finally decided to try a five inch live bluegill and within ten seconds the bass ate it, and not just the tail.
  9. I fish for crappie fairly often, and i have yet to catch a crappie without spines. They usually have 5-7 spines on their dorsal fin.
  10. I kind of doubt he even caught it. You can easily find pictures of big bass on the internet without a person in it, and claim you caught it. Or you could just photoshop yourself into the photo.
  11. I still use braid for the vast majority of techniques, but I don't use it for big swim baits or average sized jerkbaits anymore mostly because of how expensive they are to lose. The inertia of a big swimbait or a long casting jerkbait seems to make it more likely to brake off when the cast is suddenly halted, and no stretch braid doesn't have the cushion to absorb the shock. In addition to that braid seems to be more prone to getting wrapped around guides and such in the first place, because of its limpness.
  12. Thanks again for everybody's reply's. I actually use jerkbaits on spinning gear for whatever reason, it just feels easier for me to give snappy jerks with spinning than with casting gear.
  13. I used to use braid with a leader for all jerkbaits (although not that heavy, I think it would hurt the action with line so heavy) until I lost one because the limp braid tangled around an eye, which is why I asked the question.
  14. Yep, it's the big game. I wasn't planning on risking my vison around docks or anything anyways, I use my topwater rod or ned rig rod for fishing closer to the shoreline and docks with other jerks other than the vision 110, and those rods I have ten pound on.
  15. Started fishing at 3:30 and finished at 6:00 for a total of 27 bass (edit, at first I accidently typed in 26 instead of 27) and 9 big white bass, all on either the vison 110 or the pointer 78. Those two jerkbaits made a good team, the vison for deeper open water and the pointer for fishing closer to shore. The fish were off of secondary points and at the opening of coves over 4-14 feet of water. The fish were very active, wanting a two fast twitches followed by barely a second or two short pause. Water temperature is 62 degrees with roughly 3-4 feet of water clarity, and is one foot low.
  16. Thanks for all of the reply's! I went with eight pound mono and spooled it up in my jerkbait rod this morning, and tried it out this afternoon for a couple hours. Ended up with 27 bass and 9 big white bass on the vision 110 and pointer 78, and I decided that i am definitely am going to stick with the eight pound mono.
  17. Thanks for the reply's! What do you guys think about using 8lb iron silk?
  18. Last week I casted a vision 110 off because the braid got tangled around an eye mid-cast, and after that I decided that I was not going to risk casting another expensive jerkbait off by using limp braid. Now i'm trying to decide weather to spool my jerkbait rod up with 6# vanish fluorocarbon, 8# iron silk (i'm leaning toward this since it has so little memory and less stretch than regular mono, but I'm not sure if the fact that it's very visible almost like braid would matter with jerkbaits), #6 ultimate mono, 8# big game mono, or 10# big game mono. Which one of the lines I mentioned would you guys suggest using for jerkbaits, mainly the Vision 110?
  19. I don't think crankbait color really maters, it's mostly a reaction bite anyway. I've tested this theory by using every single color of particular cranks in the same day, and the results were almost identical no matter the color.
  20. I would go with a little heavier line, probably twelve pound. Not so much because of the weight, more because of the necessity of heavier rods for harder hooksets needed to drive beefy jig hooks into a bass's thick jaw.
  21. It sure does make it more fun to use lighter gear, so I usually do so whenever possible. When i'm doing what bluebasser calls "bass fishing for catfish" I use a medium fast spinning rod with ten pound line, makes it interesting never knowing who's gonna win cause they can snap that light line as soon as it rubs against a rock. And you have to remember to not keep your rod straight up when they decide they want to do circles on the bottom beneath the boat, otherwise they will break your rod. The biggest fish I've caught on light line was a 38 pound common carp. It was spawning and I could see it so I flipped my ned rig in front of it's face and it sucked it off the bottom. It seemed like it took an eternity to get it in with a medium-lite rod and an eight pound leader, luckily it wasn't super energetic like smaller carp otherwise I don't think I could have caught it.
  22. I was gonna say a m/f spinning for a general purpose spinning rod, medium-heavy/fast casting for everything else besides cranks and spinnerbaits, and medium/moderate casting rod for cranks and spinnerbaits, but I do love throwing finesse stuff like the ned rig a huge percentage of the time. I guess I would have to trade the medium/moderate casting rod for a medium-lite/fast spinning rod, but unless fishing for numbers of smaller fish is your thing I would go with the first trio I mentioned.
  23. Suspending jerkbait, small 1/8 ounce Bucktail jig, blade bait, and the ned rig.
  24. Went fishing yesterday afternoon for two and a half hours. Water's dropping fast, it dropped nearly two feet in just a day and a half. Jerkbait bite was gone (or maybe they just didn't want the rcstx, husky jerk, or the staysee that i tried) and the fish had moved out fro the shoreline into 8-14 foot depths, schooled up just above the bottom. Caught seventeen largemouth bass, two big bluegill, and fifteen white bass. Fourteen of the largemouth bass hit on a Canada craw colored trd tube-z and the other three bass and the two bluegill ate half of a pb&j zinker-z. The white bass were caught trolling an 1/8 ounce blue fox flash spinner in-between spots. All of the largemouth bass were caught utilizing the swim glide and shake retrieve. Good to see the fall white bass bite starting, I might have to spend the next trip or two targeting them exclusively.
  25. I'm getting tired of these threads. If you get caught without your scale take a photo of it alongside a rod or something, or better yet measure it.
