  1. You don't have to soak the salt out, the only thing you have to do is cut the zinkerz in half. There isn't any other bait on the market exactly like a half zinkerz, and there isn't anything that could be improved upon.
  2. There's that country mile we were just discussing. How far is a country mile again?
  3. I'm going to take a not-so wild guess, you're looking for information for your fantasy fishing, not a planned trip there.
  4. My favorite wacky rigging hooks are the Gamakatsu finesse wide gap hooks. I don't fish weighted wacky rigs much, but when I do need a little extra weight I'll pinch a split shot just above the hook or peg a lite bullet sinker to it.
  5. I have the same problem, except I can't find a co-boater for a club I was thinking of joining. I really don't know how you would find someone, unless you already happened to know a guy willing to fish with you.
  6. It would fit definitely fit the guidelines for a good Midwest finesse bait, its just not a Ned rig. It used to be that a crapie sized marrabou jig was the standard bearer for midwest finesse fishermen. The size of the hook doesn't necessarily have to be no bigger than a #2, that's just for the Ned. I thought you were asking if it was a Ned rig, I didn't realize that was not your intention. The ned rig is not synonymous with Midwest finesse, it is just a tool that modern midwest finesse anglers employ quite often, but they continue to use other small baits such as hair jigs sometimes as well.
  7. No, those are fly's. The "Ned rig" is a small soft plastic bait under four inches long that is on a mushroom jig weighing no more than 3/32 ounce with a hook no larger than #2 or #1. Those are some kind of fuzzy fly tied onto what looks like a bitsy flip jig with the skirt taken off. Will those fly's work? Maybe, but they aren't a Ned rig.
  8. You asked a question, I answered it. You could have mentioned Joe Bob in that post and I would have answered your question, makes no difference to me.
  9. Wow, I wish I could catch that many bass flipping right now, or that many bass period right now. Glad you could find a better place to fish for bass near college than that river you were catching those big muskies in last summer.
  10. In this case removing the salt makes the zinkerz more pliable and boyant because of their high salt content, trick worms do not have noticeable behavior differences with salt or without, somit makes no difference. Trd's are made similarly to the zinkerz, I believe the only difference is the pointless tiny bumps on one end, and the TRDs have a lower salt content (and they are 1/4 inch longer than an exact half of a zinkerz) making them not as soft as the zinkerz once the salt has been removed. The salt does spray out from the zinkerz when you stretch them and allow the plastic to pop back into shape, but that only removes surface salt. It takes a little more to remove the salt impregnated deeper in the plastic. It is not all that important to remove the salt as it will fall out when you're fishing with it, I simply prefer to remove the majority of the salt beforehand.
  11. "What's the best method to remove the salt?" The way I do it is to stretch it out a little while underneath warm water, that way the water gets farther into the bait and dissolves more salt. No need to stretch it to much or to many times, only stretch it out a few inches and only a few times. The other way to do it if you're more patient, is simply let them soak for a day or so. Or just fish the salt out of them, but I like to start the day off with a softer bait that already has the salt removed. I will say that the more beat up half a zinkerz gets, the more effective it becomes. I have an old worn out zinker that has caught 108 fish, that thing is tattered and full of tears and holes, but its so soft it still catches fish. "Did i stretch it to much?" It appears that you did indeed stretch it to much, given that it is broken into four pieces right now.
  12. I can't believe Wheeler has won with everything that went wrong. The poor guy lost his trolling motor, half his waypoints, and had to fish out of someone else's boat with someone else's electronics yesterday. And he still won it all. That's two wins in his first two elite series events, which is a record I believe. I jumped up to 5th place in our group today, and a 93.1 percentile rating in 1667th place overall, with Jacob Wheeler, Ott Defoe, and David Mullins making both cuts. I also picked Keven VanDam and David Walker, but they both were cut on the second day.
  13. He's just joking with you about the probability that your rod buying resolution will last. Many people have claimed they will never buy a 100+ dollar rod, before breaking down and trying one. And once you've used one high end rod, there's no going back!
  14. @primetime, does that store have an online website?
  15. I've had that happen several times, but i have no idea how it's possible. Pretty goofy looking to see when it happens. BTW, when I saw the thread title I thought you were literally using a ten inch worm on a mushroom head and calling it a "Ned rig". I'm Glad I was wrong, I do tire of all of the people trying to turn it into something it isn't.
  16. You must be Southerner, up here fifty degree weather means a lite jacket at most.
  17. At least we might be able to cash in on some store closing clearance deals, but in the long run this will hurt the consumer. At least they already had very high prices, so they weren't exactly driving prices down because of their competition.
  18. Click on your name, it should bring you to your profile where it shows your percentile. You're probably around 99.9 percentile by that rank. It probably benifited connell to have Jacob running the boat, I'm guessing they worked that out and decided it would be mutually beneficial for Wheeler to drive.
  19. Same here, I surprisingly held onto 7th pace in our group and 93%. Wishing walker or kvd made the cut to make it to today, I could have really used another hundred and fifty points to jump a few places up
  20. It was pretty cool of Dustin connell to let Jacob Wheeler fish from his boat when Jacob's boat died, even though they are supposedly friends, they are competitors competing for a check. And it is very impressive that Wheeler managed to hold onto 3rd place while fishing from someone else's boat without the electronics he's familiar with. Oh, and all three if my remaining picks made today's cut.
  21. I don't use spinning gear for everything, but I do use it for skipping and frogs (and obviously finesse). I almost always use spinning gear for skipping because I can skip a lot farther with it than with casting gear, and I spend a lot of time skipping frogs so my frog rod is a 7' medium heavy spinning rod that fishes more like a heavy. Another reason I prefer spinning for frogs is I throw a lot of small frogs that only weigh 1/4 ounce, and I can't cast a 1/4 ounce frog very far with casting gear. It just has to much air resistance and to little weight, at least for me. Never had a problem with not having enough power to winch the bass out of the slop, granted I don't fish Florida caliber muck, but I have horsed a couple legit five pounders out from some thick brush and weeds with a spinning rod.
  22. I use spinning gear for frogs.
  23. 93.4 percentile, and seventh in this group. But I only have Ott Defoe, wheeler, and Mullins left, so my rank is going to drop hard tomorrow.
  24. At least i still have 3 in the top ten. Kvd and walker bombed, but wheeler is in 2nd, Mullins is in 5th, and Ott Defoe is in 9th.
