  1. I'm looking to get a rod for bottom contact baits, mostly 3/16-5/16 ounce baby boo jigs, 3/16-1/4 ounce t-rigs, and other jigs up to 3/8 ounce. I can't decide between the 703c and 704c, which do you think would be better suited for the baits listed? It won't be used around a ton of cover. I tried calling dobyns up, and actually got a hold of gary dobyns son. He said that the 703c was a little lighter than he would like for those weights, but the 704 was a little stiffer to. Oh, and I will be pairing it with a curado 70 and probably spooling it up with 30 pound braid if that helps.
  2. Thanks for the replies. I was planning on spooling it with 40 pound braid, I throw a lot of smaller frogs, and as an added bonus it will hold more line that way to.
  3. Has anyone used the curado 70 for frogs? Not sure if it has a powerful enough drag or a big enough spool for frogs but I really like the smaller size for palming. I'm looking at getting one for my frogging rod that will also double as a flipping/pitching/big jigs rod.
  4. Thanks, that really helped put the size of the 70 and 200k in perspective. I didn't realize that the 200k was so much bigger, the video comparing them made them look the same. Good to know, I will probably be going with the 70 because it's so much smaller.
  5. Thanks for the info, I wonder what my popper is then if it isn't a pop-r. Looks just like one, but i know it is made from wood cause there is a small chip out of the covering, exposing the wood.
  6. I fish whenever I can, as long as I can. Quitting is never my choice, I don't even consider it until I have to leave.
  7. Buzzbaits and fishing frogs in the slop, there is nothing like having a bass blow up threw matted grass and slamming the hook into them. Buzzbaits get the favorite nod in tournaments cause the hooking percentage is better though. And here's something for the blasphemy thread, my absolute least favorite technique is jig fishing.
  8. Pretty much since they were first put on the market, I believe. I used the 1/20 ounce heads a lot before I started pouring my own.
  9. Not trying to highjack the thread, but what year did rebel stop making them out of wood? I have a wooden magnum pop-r that I found, and it catches way more fish than the new plastic ones.
  10. Good thing I don't know anything about the situation I was lucky for the fact that it started pouring rain and lightning literally 30 sec after they pulled up, so following in security boats wasn't an option. I didn't fish nearby that side of the lake, and avoided security boats for a month lol.
  11. I tried fishing there half an hour after they closed once, thinking that you were allowed to fish after they stopped selling gas. A 1.0 crank burned through that area caught a couple of 2.5-3.5 pounders (and one over four) as fast as I could cast. A couple minutes later I found out that it was an off limits fishing area even after they close, I got the hint when a dog walker called somebody on the phone and the sheriff and another car pulled into the parking lot a minute later. I didn't hang around after I caught the gist of the phone conversation, and only saw the vehicles pulling in just before I got around the point. I didn't realize they took it so seriously. It seemed like that they all got fired up after the first one hit, very competitive fish.
  12. I really sucked... And the worst part is that I had an awesome team on Wednesday night, but changed my team on Thursday after rethinking my picks when the firstbdau was cancelled Here's what I had on Wednesday night: Brandon palinuik (3) Aaron martens (1), Stephen Kennedy (17), justin Lucas (25), Jesse Tacoronte (68) Thursday nights team: kvd (69), Dave lefebre (86), skeet Reese (53), Justin Lucas (25), and Jesse Tacoronte (86). I think my original picks were better lol. Had to edit it cause when i posted it, the columns got jumbled.
  13. There aren't weight ranges on reels, it will throw anything you would ever want it to. They are my favorite spinning reel out of the four or five brands that I own or have owned, granted none were over 80$ msrp and I never paid more than 40$, but it outperformed all of them easily and have held up to years of abuse.
  14. If you were to buy more heads, I would recommend the 1/20 and 1/15 ounce sizes, but for now 1/10 would probably work OK. If there is solid hydrilla, you're definitely going to have to swim it, and lighter heads make it easier to keep it up.
  15. Nice catch, especially from the bank. If you ever want to get off the bank and come back out here and fish from my boat (we could even user our bigger boat that we use for tournaments), you're always welcome to. Don't worry about weird timing, I'm almost always open
  16. I would still try them, but you won't be able to throw them into thick grass. Fish them on the edge of the grass, and in more open areas. They can be fished over some sparse grass, especially if you swim them the way I do. That's where the light heads come in. It's also good in the winter/late fall when the grass dies back if you have to wait.
  17. Most frogs will walk, but my favorite is the booyah pad crashers. Just make sure to cut the skirt on all frogs to the same length of the body, otherwise there is to much drag to walk them effectively.
  18. Same here, and he is barely inside
  19. Yep, we don't exactly live in the best state for bass fishing. My bar for big bass is also at four pounds (around here), and a 6.5 is definitely well into the trophy category. I fish more than anyone else I know, and I've only caught a few bass over six pounds. Going up to Michigan every year reminds me of just how bad the bass fishing is in Indiana, a fifteen to twenty pound bag is easier than a 7 pound bag around here, at least on the terrible lakes my club fishes lol. And even with only about 25 hours on the water last time I was up there, I still caught one bass that weighed a hair over six even.
  20. I put in a lot of research for this event, and I still would have done better if I'd picked randomly.
  21. It sounds like skeet Reese is going to be targeting smallies and not running down south to tootancandra, and stated that he is not fishing to win but is fishing for a top 25. Just wanted to let you know in case it would affect your pick.
  22. Speaking of using finesse worms on a "Ned rig", I crushed the bass today on a 4" robo worm on a 1/16 ounce mushroom head. Also caught six or eight on a shaky head, but the little shroom head with the robo worm was the deal. Caught 32 bass in just under four hours, and just had a blast. Lately I've been trying to stay away from fishing the Ned rig, so I can learn other techniques (and the grass has been really bad), but it was such a slow day (at first) that I broke out the Ned rig and treated myself to some fast action. Now I'm gonna have to force myself to put it back down lol.
  23. Thanks guys, I tried @Team9nines method today and it worked much better than a snap set.
  24. 30$ ugly stik- on a $430 metanium. Somewhat mismatched IMHO lol.
  25. Nope, the fish could care less about the 1/4 inch difference between the TRD and a 2.5" section ofna zinkerz. I also like the 4" finesse wormz and a finesse trick worm, but other popular options are the hula stickz, finesse shadz, trd tubez or modified tubez, and leachz. I pretty much exclusively fish the zinkerzs and finesse worms, i haven't personally found the other baits to work much better (aside from short seasonal windows), but many other people have.
