  1. As funny as that is, I don't get the feeling he's the brightest candle on the birthday cake..
  2. If I were you, depending on what type of waters you fish and what you fish the most (which would be helpful), this is how I would pair your rods, reels, and lines. I'd put your 8.5:1 curado k on the 7' heavy rod, and spool it up with 40-50 pound braid. It could be used for frogs, pitching and light punching, big jigs, and larger topwater. Next I'd put the other 6.2:1 curado k on the 7'2" medium heavy moderate rod, spooled with 12 pound mono. I would mostly use it for cranks Last I would pair the 6'6" medium power fast rod with the cronarch, and you could either spool it with 10-12 pound mono or go with 30 pound braid. Both will work, that's largely dependent on personal preference and your individual lakes and lures. It would be an all purpose rod, and could throw about everything else that the other two could not. BTW, I would highly suggest a spinning rod. Something around 6'9"-7', medium lite powered with a fast tip.
  3. Are you talking about FFO? I've ordered from them six or seven times and haven't had any real issues that weren't resolved. Great prices if you watch it closely, I got two villians that normally run $200 each for $60 each shipped a few years back. The elite tech smallmouth rod is a heck of a rod from what I've heard to, but you better hurry cause they're selling fast.
  4. I'll be out this weekend-my fishing schedule looks something like Saturday through Wednesday, rain or shine/sleet or snow, and sometimes on Friday to...
  5. I figured that the spring lock would help the trick worm to last longer, but maybe not. So have any of you guys tried nose hooking a weightless trick worm, and did it help your hookup ratio?
  6. Nice fish, and don't worry the best jerkbait bite is in the 43-48 degree temperatures (IMHO), so you are just getting into that bite. We've still got ~55 degree water down here, depending. Fishing actually usually picks up for me once the water drops into the mid 40s, as long as visibility stays good.
  7. Hey guys, I just watched a video on using an owner cps spring in the nose of a fluke, and then putting a wide gap finnesse gamakatsu hook through the owner cps. They explained how it led to better hookups, and it made a lot of sense. I was wondering if this would also work with a weightless trick worm? Or is the worm long enough that they won't tend to eat the head? If anybody's tried it let me know.
  8. Cause it's heavier and/or has a bigger hook...
  9. I've broken one or two, but only because I spent a few days skipping them underneath docks which is pretty hard on them. I actually have one right now that has caught well over 100 bass, and it's still going strong.
  10. I only lose 2-3 a year, and most of those are to pleasure boaters running over my line on a long cast. I would lose a lot more if I didn't use an 18' extendable pole style lure retriever though.
  11. That sounds like a really good idea, would a #8 or #10 hook be small enough? I might try modifying my mold to fit a small hook as a keeper along the shank, but I'll try it out on one of the larger cavities that I don't use first, just in case.
  12. I have the same mold mike uses to pour the morel with, and I've found that you've got to push pretty hard on the plastic and work at it to get the keeper to bite into the elaztech. I might try sharpening the keepers on my next batch though, I hadn't thought of that before. Try putting a dot of super glue on the keeper, pretty much holds elaztech on indefinitely
  13. I fish out of an old StarCraft aluminum that best we can tell was made in the early 60s, with a 1990 Johnson Evenrude, it's either 9.9 or 15hp, the only difference between the two is the size of the carburetor openings and the covers are interchangeable.
  14. ^^ This-especially that bit on the jerkbaits. When I see followers, I immediately tie a jerkbait on, regardless of depth or clarity. The majority of the time the bass go crazy fighting each other for the bait. Had some great days fishing clear water fisheries that way.
  15. You want to have a good laugh, look up a video of ike breakdancing after the weigh in at the bass master classic, when he won. It should be noted that the weigh-in director of the time told ike to do it though.
  16. I watched the dicks site for almost the whole hour, and not once did it let me in for more than a couple seconds. Just long enough for a tease.. And I was thinking of getting an avid x with the sale
  17. I know i sound like a broken record, but what rod/line/drag setting were you using? Those hooks just don't fail unless used with to heavy of gear, unless the strength is compromised in some way (rust and simply being thrown into a dock to hard to many times are common issues). I don't personally use zman heads anymore, I started pouring my own on #4 and #2 owner lite wire hooks to save money and get a better jighead.
  18. Google "Michael Iacconelli going ike throwing rods" he tosses a rod or two in the drink about every time he does poorly or loses a big fish.
  19. Tie one on and come on out here Love a good lipless bite when I can just put the trolling motor down and cover water.
  20. Caught my second biggest ever smallie yesterday, from a lake that doesn't have a fishable population of smallmouth. I've only caught five so far this year from this lake, but the one I got yesterday weighed 4.04 pounds! It measured 20 1/2 inches, and would have been longer if it hadn't had a pug face and a lower jaw that was over half an inch shorter than the upper jaw. Caught her on a 1/2 ounce rattle trap cranked medium speed with a few pauses mixed into the retrieve, on a main lake point. Also caught 21 other bass in 2 hours, with a decent 11.4 pound limit (I weighed all the keepers).
  21. I know there was a thread a week or two ago on kastking braid, and it pretty much went down the tube. Not looking for that here, I just want some info on their braid from people that have used it. It's a lot cheaper than power pro, but how does it compare performance wise?
  22. One of the older models of gallions, from back when st. Croix still made them. The one's labeled "IM7" are the good ones, but the newer IM8 models aren't as good. The older rods supposedly have a lower quality graphite ( I kinda doubt they actually do), but they are much more sensitive.
  23. I catch bass with black sploches all the time, about 25% of my catch has them. It's a condition call hyperpigmented melanosis, which does not affect the bass's health in any way.
  24. It is a shame they were discontinued, it really blows the newer model out or the water. Night and day difference, they don't even fish somewhat similarly. I wouldn't even own the newer model if I hadn't pulled it out of the lake. That rod has got more use so far than any of my other baitcasters since you gave it to me.
  25. Got out in the cold, windy rain for 45 minutes before dark today, and despite the massive cold front nailed a 16+ pound limit in the short time. It was awesome, only caught five fish but they were definitely the right ones. Four of them in the 2.75-3.5 pound range, and a 4.2 pound kicker. Caught them on a red eye shad retrieved with a burn and pause, I'd burn it 10-12 feet then pause to let it flutter down to the bottom before doing it again. My hands and face went numb, but I can't complain about the great fishing! BTW, I upgraded the hooks on the redeye shad to mustad triple grips and swapped the 6'6" mh/f rod out for a 6'6" (fishes between a medium and medium heavy) mod-fast rod (thanks again Brian!), which solved the landing percentage issues I was having last time.
