My friend has a 12 ft row boat also,he uses a 40lb thrust minn kota and a yellow wallmart battery. He is able to use it all day and even run his lights. just make sure the battery is fully charged.

I bought a minn kota just for the composit shaft. Where I fish there are a lot of stumps and rocks. I used to have a motorguide and bent the shaft the second time out.
