  1. A lot of good advice I see and I would have to agree on the no bass gear if possible, having proper tools (including glove). The only thing I would like to add is to make sure if you are going to purchase a rod make sure it will throw a decent range of weights. I would not look at one unless you could throw at least 3oz bait with it. Just a thought.
  2. Nice job getting on the citation board basser. You have problems with a river? I must say I am shocked I thought you trained with the best. Hehe
  3. Very nice, I bet that made for a great outing and I look forward to when I can do the same with my son. Good deal on the muskie maybe you could teach basser89 and I a thing or two about those darn lake muskies.
  4. Looks like a certain multi species guy needs a haircut. LOL
  5. I know you are the lake fishermen Basser that is why you don't like that stretch. Basser and our co-worker put on quite a clinic on Sunday with a good crankbait bite. To bad one of them was my own crankbait used against me(LOL). We will get the monster walleye next time.
  6. Dan, There is always the potomac since you are in Frederick. I work with Basser89 and we have done quite well in the rivers around Frederick, Washington county depending on what you are looking for.
  7. That is a monster no doubt. Is that close to the Florida record?
  8. Typically I have had very good luck with quantum products but the code in my opinion is sub-standard for the brand. The fit and function are just not what they should be so I would shy away from it.
  9. Bandit Series 100 in Rootbeer, Flat Maxx in Khaki, and Lucky Craft CB in Aurora Black.
  10. They taste a lot like Pike or Musky to me. They have a decent taste but typically are small with a lot of bone. Basser89 on this board has a decent recipe for ESOX. 24 inches is citation size and that one looks like it would make that.
  11. I think the components are of lesser quality (get what you pay for) then some of there other reels especially the burners. Have used many different Quantum baitcasters and this one seemed sub par.
  12. Hammerin Hare makes hair jigs that work great in rivers and lakes. As far as synthetic material jigs I like the Eakins finesse. Both seem to produce quality smallies.
  13. Great setup that rig looks like it would work well in the river.
  14. I have always like the Quantum PT's (Catalyst, Kinetic, etc). Pflueger makes some quality equipment in spinning as well that are reasonably priced. Basser89 has me hooked on the Suffix braid on spinning tackle works very well.
  15. Too many choices to pick from. On the Potomac my personal favorite is Dunwright crankbaits (Black/Orange) number one producer.
  16. I agree with the advantages that Fish Chris and Avid mentioned. The only problem I have is I live in a little more cold climate than Fish Chris I believe and this time of year I have braid freeze up while musky fishing. I have tried every brand of braid known to man and it all freezes up when the temps outside dip in the low 30's. I have had this occur with baitcasters and spinning.
  17. Hopefully someone has some insight to this problem. I had a Kinetic PT that was giving me fits with the drag. I tried using a different spool and as well as a different drag knob. The problem comes and goes but happens more frequently now. What would happen is tighten the drag knob as tight as possible and the line would still slip through easily. Any thoughts?
  18. I do use the larger versions for muskie but the smaller versions 4" and less work well using them like a jig. They work well for both smallies and walleye. The only drawback is the hook configuration so removing and modifying the lower treble is a good idea especially in rivers.
  19. Those are some amazing Pike and the quantity that you have been catching I have only seen in spring when they move into the shallows pre-spawn. Congrats on landing so many quality pike.
  20. Crazy as it may sound Basser89 and I had a very large walleye slam into the side of his boat a couple months back and ended up losing it because of the impact. I also many years ago was off the coast of Long Island with my uncle and had a very large (347lb) thresher smash into the side of his boat. Even though the shark was hooked it made probably a 20 yard mad dash to ram the boat.
  21. Just thought I would throw a question about the variations of yellow line out there. I can see the value since it is Hi-Vis and very muddy water jigging applications but is that it? How does this color disperse visually under water? What application (water color) would this line excel? I was looking at replacing some braid on a spinning outfit and had seen the suffix in yellow which brought theses questions about. Thanks in advance.
  22. I have used just about every series they make in multiple colors and they are a very true running bait right out of the package. The one thing I like about them is what Basser89 referenced in the fact that many of the series (100,200,FlatMaxx) are great multi species baits. Yea Basser I know if I have a bandit there is always that chance for the unthinkable to happen 8-)
  23. Well I would not worry about Walkersville all that much those were just a couple examples of ponds. They are not visible from any road and there are only four people allowed in those including Basser89. I typically do not go out of my way but in my travels if I see a pond I just go ask. You will get turned down once in awhile but the quality of the ponds have made it worth it for those you get access to. A lot of ponds are overlooked but if they don't get a lot of pressure the quality of the fish have been quite amazing for a more northern state. Here is another from another pond that came from Frederick County and this should help with the courage to ask. The one in the pic is 7lbs plus and three bigger than that have fallen.
  24. Sure no problem Boett that particular bass was caught from a private pond outside of Walkersville. The big girl fell victim to a chatterbait in the fall. Last fall the chatterbait bite was excellent and over a two week period out of ponds all over Frederick County 7 bass over six pounds fell. I have a tendency to work a chatterbait very erratically in the fall very similar to working a jerkbait and the pause time is the key.
  25. To add to the conversation Boett there are many really good private ponds that can be found in Frederick County. I fish with Basser89 on some sweet private ponds that have produced numerous fish over 7lbs (serious as a heartattack). Getting permission is not like asking to hunt in MD, you can still get people to give you permission to fish ponds. Most of the ones we have found have been dumbluck but we have probably 6 or more now that have quality fish with many between the two of us over 5lb including a 10lb 2oz hog pictured below. Basser would have equalled that more than likely we just have not had a chance to get out. So keep your eyes open and don't be afraid to ask.
